James "Jay" McGuiness (born 24 July 1990) is a British singer and songwriter best known as a vocalist with boy band The Wanted.
He appeared on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing on December 19, 2015, partnered with Aliona Vilani. McGuiness and former bandmate Siva Kaneswaran won the series on October 10, 2017, the first series of Celebrity Hunted.
Early life
McGuiness grew up in Newark, Nottinghamshire, and attended All Saints RC School, Mansfield. Thomas and three others are his fraternal twin brother, and three others are siblings.
He discovered his passion for performing by enrolling in the Charlotte Hamilton School of Dance in Newark from the age of 12. He attended the prestigious Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama in Carlton, near Nottingham, as his passion for the performing arts grew.
Personal life
McGuiness is vegetarian, but he has described himself as "not a militant vegetarian by any means." In 2013, he was named PETA's Sexiest Male Vegetarian Celebrity. He can play the drums.
Career
McGuiness is identified as one fifth of The Wanted, an Anglo-Irish boy band. Since joining Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Tom Parker, and Nathan Sykes, he has been a member of the band since 2010. He discovered the band by Googling'auditions' and getting two awards, one for a circus and one for the band.
McGuiness won the first series of Celebrity Hunted in October 2017 with bandmate Siva Kaneswaran.

He received a total of 37 points out of 40, the highest week three score in the competition's history, for his jive, winning the first ten of the series. He danced an American Smooth to "Li'l Red Riding Hood" by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs in week 6, putting him in second place by only one point. He performed a tango to "When Doves Cry" by Prince in week ten, receiving 38 points. He went from "Falling Slowly" to "Bobba" in Week 11 and finished 39th, placing him at the top of the charts. Charleston's score in the semi-finals was 37. The couple danced a quickstep to "My Generation" by The Weeknd, scoring 35, a showdance to "Can't See My Face," scoring 35, and a Bon Jovi pasob with scores 39. In the public vote, the couple were named series champions, winning the Glitterball trophy.
As part of the 2020 Christmas special, the BBC conducted an audience poll for the best Strictly dance of all time. The audience's most popular Strictly routine ever, Jay's "Pulp Fiction" Jive took the top spot in the poll.
