For being wrongfully suspended for theft, Post Office boss Paula Vennells dances to Pixie Lott with senior executives at a staff party

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 21, 2024
Sub-postmasters were dancing to Pixie Lott at a staff party as sub-postmasters were fighting a court conflict over being wrongfully imprisoned. Ms Vennells danced with her predecessor Alan Cook, who was in charge of 161 subpoenas who were wrongfully charged, was suspended for 57 days after the expenses-paid company function took place. Kevin Gilliland, who was in charge of selling at the time of the scandal, was also caught partying. Angela Vaden Bogerd, a central figure in the Washington Post Office controversy and an advocate for the flawed IT equipment, was also invited. After the public's interest in wrongful convictions piqued, she resigned from her job in 2020. Assuming that the accounts were safe, data from the Horizon IT system was used to sue up to 983 postmasters between 1999 and 2015. The revelation that remote access was possible during a High Court lawsuit in 2017 was the first step on the road leading to the Prime Minister's appointing of a new law to dismiss court convictions. Many who were wrongfully accused were murdered, as 'wanted: dead or alive' posters were hung up on their faces and their children were mocked. It comes as ministers have ordered the Post Office to look at claims that a new IT platform could have resulted in the wrong convictions of sub-postmasters.
