The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a safety alert to airlines and pilots after six near miss collisions between aircrafts at U.S. airports since the beginning of the year.  In a warning Wednesday, the FAA signaled airlines about the 'need for continued vigilance and attention to mitigation of safety risks' after the series of incidents across the country. 'While the overall numbers do not reflect an increase in incidents and occurrences, the potential severity of these events is concerning,' the FAA said in their warning. The official warning comes just days after the FAA held an impromptu safety and security summit over rising concerns among airline passengers.

States across the country are weighing up bringing in laws to make phone manufacturers install filters on their phones which would blur sexually explicit content automatically. The filter could be removed via a passcode. Utah in 2021 introduced such legislation, but it has not gone into force: five further states must agree similar laws before Utah's kicks in, to stop one state being singled out for retaliation by phone companies. The legislation was first drawn up in 2019 by the teams at National Center on Sexual Exploitation and Protect Young Eyes. In 2021, Apple introduced an optional filter which can be switched on to scan messages for nudity. It will then blur any suspected nude images for people who had the filters turned on. In the intervening years, politicians and advocates have asked for advice on how to get the legislation passed, said Benjamin Bull, the general counsel for the National Center on Sexual Exploitation.

A Senate committee on Wednesday approved a bill, Informing Consumers about Smart Devices Act, to force manufacturers of devices like fridges to inform consumers of cameras. The bill, which has already been approved by the House, will now go to a full Senate vote, and then become law. Ted Cruz, who introduced the bill with Democrat senator Maria Cantwell, said: 'American consumers should be aware when their appliances and everyday tech products have the capability to record them through microphones and cameras - let alone the ability to transmit through Wi-Fi.' Cantwell said: 'Most consumers expect their refrigerators to keep the milk cold, not record their most personal and private family discussions.'

A volunteer for a Teal independent has been reported to police after allegedly lashing out at Liberal volunteers for taking up all the best spots for their candidate's posters.  The vicious dispute, which was caught on video, erupted after Liberal volunteers arrived early on Thursday morning to seize the prime spots to display corflutes for their candidate, Anthony Roberts, outside the Lane Cove Council Civic Centre. When Noel Plumb, a volunteer for Independent candidate Victoria Davidson, arrived at 6.30am, he was incensed to see the best spots gone.

Lisa Wilkinson's lawyer Sue Chrysanthou on Thursday pointed to a Daily Mail Australia article, published in December, that said Wilkinson was at the top of Mr Lehrmann's list of people to sue in a defamation lawsuit. In court on Thursday, Ms Chrysanthou argued the limit should not be extended and spoke about why Mr Lehrmann never sent a concerns notice to say he intended to sue Wilkinson for defamation. 'He was happy to settle with Network 10, happy to settle with Samantha Maiden, happy to settle with news, but not my client,' she said.

Sandy Smith has been fighting for nearly eight years to get justice for her son Stephen who was found dead on a rural South Carolina road near the Murdaugh property that would become a bloody murder scene years later. Now, the 19-year-old's suspicious death is finally being looked at as a homicide as his mother confirms that she will absolutely still have his body exhumed and have a new autopsy conducted to find out the truth about who killed her son. Stephen's death was initially ruled a hit-and-run after his body was found on the Hampton County road with blunt force injuries in July 2015. But after his former classmate Buster Murdaugh's mother and brother were murdered by Buster's father Alex in 2021, Stephen's death was reinvestigated based on information gathered during that investigation. Stephen's family had previously raised concerns the teen may have been targeted because he was gay, and earlier this week, a letter written by his mother to the FBI in 2016, resurfaced in which she implicated Buster, now 26, in her son's death. Buster had pre-empted the homicide update by denying 'vicious rumors' that he was involved in Smith's death, with whom he was allegedly linked romantically.

Vigilantes have published an address for the eldest girl alleged to be behind the teen's torture ordeal, sparking threats to firebomb the house, throw bricks through its windows and attack the ringleader. Shocking social media video had shown three teens allegedly attacking the young girl by breaking bottles over her face and stabbing at her with a kitchen knife while she was stripped half-naked. The footage also allegedly showed the girl being tied up, repeatedly punched in the face as she begged for mercy, burnt and stomped on, and knives thrown at her. A follow up video on TikTok showed the alleged ringleader apparently confess, telling the camera: 'Just tortured someone...'
