Kelly Clarkson Life

Kelly Brianne Clarkson (born April 24, 1982) is an American singer, songwriter and television personality.

She rose to fame in 2002, after winning the first season of American Idol, which earned her a record deal with RCA Records.

Clarkson's debut single, "A Moment Like This", topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and became the country's best-selling single of 2002.

It was followed by the release of her debut album, Thankful (2003), which debuted atop the US Billboard 200.

Trying to reinvent her image, Clarkson parted ways with Idol management and shifted to pop rock music for her second album, Breakaway (2004).

After numerous top 40 radio number-one singles, such as "Since U Been Gone" and "Because of You", the album sold over 12 million copies worldwide and earned Clarkson two Grammy Awards. She took further creative control for her third album, My December (2007), by becoming the executive producer and co-writing the entire album.

However, her label was dissatisfied with her darker rock music and promoted the album reluctantly.

Clarkson returned to the top of the charts with her more mainstream-oriented fourth album, All I Ever Wanted (2009).

Its lead single, "My Life Would Suck Without You", holds the record for the biggest jump to number one on the Hot 100 chart.

Her fifth studio album, Stronger (2011), made Clarkson the first artist to win the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album twice.

It spawned her third Hot 100 number-one single "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)".

She became the first American female artist to achieve the best-selling holiday album of the year with Wrapped in Red (2013).

Following the release of her third number-one album Piece by Piece (2015), Clarkson concluded her contract with RCA Records and signed with Atlantic Records in 2016.

Her soul-influenced eighth album, Meaning of Life (2017), hit number two on the Billboard 200 and garnered her a record fifth Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album. Clarkson has sold over 25 million albums and 40 million singles worldwide.

She has had 27 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with three number one songs and eleven in the Top 10.

Her accolades include three Grammy Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, four American Music Awards, and two Academy of Country Music Awards.

Billboard has hailed Clarkson as "one of pop music's greatest singers" and honored her with the Powerhouse Award for her vocals.

Clarkson became the first artist in history to top each of Billboard's pop, adult contemporary, adult pop, country, and dance charts.

She was ranked nineteenth on VH1's list of 100 Greatest Women in Music.

Clarkson also ventured into film, television, and writing children's books.

She currently serves as a coach on the competition series The Voice and hosts the variety talk show The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Personal life

In 2012, Clarkson began dating talent manager Brandon Blackstock, son of her former manager Narvel Blackstock and former stepson of Reba McEntire. She and Blackstock married on October 20, 2013, at Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tennessee. During their marriage, Brandon was her manager. Together, they have a daughter, River Rose, born in June 2014, and a son, Remington "Remy" Alexander, born in April 2016. In June 2020, Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock, citing irreconcilable differences. The divorce was finalized on August 3, 2021.

In October 2019, Clarkson said that she has been managing an autoimmune condition and a thyroid condition since 2006, a fact which she had previously addressed on Today in 2018. Clarkson credited her health improvements and weight loss to "The Plant Paradox" program by Steven Gundry.

Kelly Clarkson Career

Life and career

Kelly Brianne Clarkson was born in Fort Worth, Texas, to Jeanne Ann (née Rose), a first-grade English teacher, and Stephen Michael Clarkson, a retired engineer. She is the youngest of three children, with a brother named Jason and a sister named Alyssa. Clarkson also has two younger half brothers from her father's second marriage. When she was six years old, her parents divorced when they lost their brother, and her sister moved to live with an aunt, and her mother stayed with her aunt. Clarkson's mother married Jimmy Taylor later this year. Clarkson is of English, Welsh, Irish, and Greek descent. On Clarkson's episode of Who Do You Think You Are? She mother is a descendant of Republican state senator Isaiah Rose, whose life story was explored on his Clarkson's episode of Who Do You Think You Are? In 2013, the nexus of a child born in the United States was discussed. Clarkson was raised in Southern Baptistdom. "I grew up in church," she says. I was the leader of our youth group. I've always been grew up close to church and with God. But I believe I've just gotten a lot closer, but I'm sure He's the only one I can lean on." "My family was very conservative; I had to go to church on Sunday and Wednesday," she later said of her upbringing.

Clarkson received his education at Pauline Hughes Middle School. Cynthia Glenn, the school's choir coach, overheard her singing in a hallway and asked her to audition for the school choir in the seventh grade. Clarkson said she had never received any formal vocal preparation. Clarkson graduated from Burleson High School in 2000, where she appeared in many musicals, including Annie Get Your Gun, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and Brigadoon. Clarkson began voice studies in the hopes of gaining a college scholarship in music.

Clarkson left full scholarships to universities in Texas after graduating high school. She worked in various capacities to finance a demo, recording samples, and attempting to sell it to record labels but she received no response. Clarkson canceled two recording deals with Jive Records and Interscope Records, saying, "They would have completely pigeonholed me as a bubblegum act." I was certain that something better would come along." In 2001, she moved to Los Angeles, pursuing a career in music. She appeared in a few television shows, including Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, and Dharma & Greg, and she briefly collaborated with musician Gerry Goffin to record five demo tracks in the hopes of securing a contract. Clarkson said she was rejected by virtually every major recording company for being "too black." Clarkson was forced to return to Burleson, where she worked as a television host and as a cocktail waitress in a comedy club, owing to a lack of other career options and a firefighter.

Clarkson was invited by her friends to attend the premiere season of the reality television show American Idol: The Hunt for a Superstar in May 2002. Clarkson made her debut in the second episode despite winning a "golden ticket" — a ticket to the Hollywood rounds. Clarkson referred to the inaugural season as "ghetto" in an interview in 2012, saying, "We were like kids in camp on our season." Nobody knew what to do. Every day, the display was always changing. They did one season of Pop Idol in the United Kingdom, but America is a very different place. We were dropped off in a mall and told them, 'find some clothes to wear on national television,'. I am probably the closest thing to white garbage you can find.

What do I buy?

White pants I guess?

I certainly did not look like a cocktail waitress," the waitress said. Clarkson went on to win the competition at the Kodak Theatre (now Dolby), receiving 58% of the votes against runner-up Justin Guarini.

Clarkson, the American Idol champion, and S Records executive in charge of American Idol and S Records, as well as music mogul Clive Davis, who was supposed to executive-produce her debut album, was signed within minutes. "Before Your Love"/"A Moment Like This" was her debut double-A-side single on September 17, 2002. During American Idol's season finale, Clarkson performed both songs. After debuting at number 60 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, the single soared to number 52 the following week and then climbed to number one. It was the first leap to number one set by the British band The Beatles, who set a 38-year-old record for the first time. It then went on to become the country's best-selling single of 2002.

Thankful, Clarkson's debut album, was released on April 15, 2003. The album featured aspects of pop, contemporary R&B, and gospel music, with several well-known artists like Rhett Lawrence, Diane Warren, The Underdogs, and Babyface contributing to the tracks. Several commentators were keen on the album, which was released during a time of urban-R&B hegemony. Stephen Thomas Erlewine, an AllMusic reviewer, praised the album for its vocal ability: "Throughout this collection, (Clarkson) makes it appear simple and charming." She can croon, belt out a song, she can be sexy and sassy, yet she will also be graceful and as wholesome as the girl next door. "Clarkson glides through octaves with the keen hand of someone who has been doing this for decades," Entertainment Weekly's Henry Goldblatt wrote. Thankful was a commercial success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and going on to sell over 4.5 million copies around the world. The RIAA, a platinum in Canada, and gold in Japan and Australia have since been rated double platinum.

"Miss Independent," the company's lead single, became her first international success, notably in the United States, achieving the top ten in five national charts, including the United States. The RIAA later designated it as gold by the RIAA. Clarkson received her first Grammy Award nomination for her "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance" at the 46th Grammy Awards. "Low" and "The Trouble with Love Is" were two moderately popular singles; the latter was used on the soundtrack of British romantic film Love Actually. Miss Independent, her first video album, was released on November 18, 2003, and the RIAA rated it gold. Clay Aiken, the 2004 Independent Tour of the United States, helped Thankful, Clarkson, and Idol's season two runner-up Clay Aiken co-headlined the 2004 Independent Tour around the country.

Clarkson made her film debut with Guarini with the introduction of the musical romantic comedy film From Justin to Kelly in June 2003. Critics were outraged by the film's reception and it was unprofitable at the box office, with Clarkson claiming she was "contractually bound" to produce the movie and that she didn't like it. Clarkson, along with American Idol judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, and host Brian Dunkleman and Ryan Seacrest appeared in the premiere of the eighth season of the television comedy series MADtv in 2002. Brenda Lee appeared in two episodes of American Dreams from 2003 to 2004. Clarkson and the inaugural winners of many Idol television series around the world on December 25, 2003, and the inaugural winners of the many Idol television series around the world. Clarkson was legally obliged to participate, and she performed Aretha Franklin's "You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman." With 97 points, she came in second, behind first Norwegian Idol Kurt Nilsen.

Clarkson canceled Fuller and 19 Management and recruited Jeff Kwatinetz of the Firm, seeking to distance herself from her American Idol image. With her second studio album, Breakaway, she reimagined her musical direction by creating a more modern sound. Davis served as the executive producer on the album, while Clarkson co-wrote six of the songs with pop and rock songwriters like former Evanescence band members Ben Moody, David Hodges, Kara DioGuardi, Dr. Luke, and Max Martin. "What gives Breakaway its spine are the driving, anthemic pop songs, in numbers that are both mainstream and youthful, which is a difficult trick to pull off, and they are the songs that illustrate Clarkson's extraordinary popularity in the 2000s: a pop singer who is neither hip nor square, but solidly and enjoyedably in the mainstream."

Breakaway debuted on November 30, 2004, becoming Clarkson's most commercially lucrative record. After debuting at number three on the Billboard 200, its tenacity enabled it to become the country's third-best-selling album of 2005, earning the RIAA's third-best-selling album sextuple platinum. The album also enjoyed success around the world; it debuted in the Netherlands and Ireland and Ireland; it also sold more than a million copies around the world. Clarkson was a sponsor of Breakaway World Tour, which ran from 2005 to 2006.

To advertise Breakaway, five singles were released. "Breakaway" was originally released in July 2004, as the soundtrack for Disney's film The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, and was later re-released as the album's fifth single in May 2006. Clarkson's third top-ten single on the Billboard Hot 100, with a peak of number six. It was a big success on adult contemporary radio, topping the Billboard Adult Contemporary for 21 weeks and the Adult Contemporary Audience chart for 28 weeks (her longest number one on any charts). Despite peaking at number two, "Since U Been Gone" was the album's lead single and became Clarkson's most popular single on the Hot 100 in November 2004. Both "Behind These Hazel Eyes" and "Because of You" followed suit, peaking at number six and number seven on the Hot 100, respectively. Clarkson's "Because of You" became Clarkson's most popular single worldwide, debuting at number one on the European Hot 100 Singles chart and national charts in Brazil, Denmark, and Switzerland. "Walk Away," the fourth single on the Hot 100, debuted at number twelve. Clarkson was the most underplayed artist of 2006 in the United States, according to Mediabase.

Clarkson's breakaway earned him several awards, including two trophies at the 48th Grammy Awards—the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Since U Been Gone" and the Best Pop Vocal Album. At the MTV Video Music Awards, she also received Best Female Video two years in a row for "Since U Been Gone" and "Because of You." Clarkson's second video album, Behind Hazel Eyes, was released on March 29, 2005. In 2005, she appeared and appeared in the thirtieth season of the American sketch-comedy movie Saturday Night Live and the reality show Damage Control with Simple Plan frontman Pierre Bouvier. At Game 2 of the NBA Finals, she performed "The Star-Spangled Banner." Clarkson appeared at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy; in 2006, Clarkson performed "Go" as a free download for the Ford Motor Company's advertising campaign.

My December, Clarkson's third studio album, was released on June 22, 2007. The album was based on darker themes and heavier rock music. Clarkson recalled Davis as the executive producer and co-wrote all of the scripts. Rather than her previous designers and collaborators, she chose to collaborate with her band members rather than her old designers and collaborators. Its manufacture and availability became part of a controversies with RCA, particularly Davis. He praised the album's lack of skilled production talent and wanted her to re-record tracks with a more mainstream audience, but she turned down. Clarkson defended herself by saying, "I've sold more than 15 million albums around the world, but still no one listens to what I have to say." I couldn't care less about being a celebrity. "I've always wanted to sing and write." The album received a warm reception, but there was a lack of publicity as a result of RCA led Clarkson's hesitation to cancel Kwatinetz and Live Nation's cancellation of the My December Tour's support act supporting acts Jon McLaughlin, Sean Kingston, and Mandy Moore. Narvel Blackstock of Starstruck Management was later hired by Clarkson as the company's talent manager. Reba McEntire, a country artist whose Clarkson is a close friend, was the husband of Blackstock. Clarkson later issued an apology to Davis, citing him as a "key strategist" in her triumph.

The RIAA also rated My December at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and was rated platinum by the RIAA. The album has since sold over 2.5 million copies around the world. It was only one major hit single, "Never Again," which debuted and peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100, her highest debut on the chart ever. Clarkson appeared on Live Earth's American leg on July 7, 2007. Clarkson worked with NASCAR in 2007 and appeared in television advertisements, promoted NASCAR Day, and attended the Champions' Banquet in December.

Clarkson co-created with Reba McEntire in an hour-long CMT Crossroads special at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium on February 22, 2007. "Why Haven't I Heard from You" and "Does He Love You" were performed by Dolly Parton, Clarkson, and Martina McBride appeared on the television show "CMT Giants: Reba McEntire. She appeared on an episode of McEntire's sitcom Reba, which aired on January 14, 2007. Clarkson and McEntire performed a country version of "Because of You" on May 16, 2007, which also became the lead single from the album Reba: Duets. It reached number two on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, and it was nominated for the Best Country Collaboration with Vocals. Clarkson and McEntire embarked on the 2 World 2 Voices Tour in 2008 to help Reba: Duets and My December.

Clarkson's fourth album, All I Ever Wanted, was released on March 10, 2009. Clarkson continued to co-write her own words, but this time she returned to a more traditional approach by reuniting with longtime colleagues Dr. Luke, Martin, and DioGuardi, as well as new collaborators Howard Benson, Claude Kelly, Ryan Tedder, Glen Ballard, Matt Thiessen, and Katy Perry in contributing tracks for the album. Music critics applauded the debut of All I Ever Wanted for its lighter themes. The album was a commercial success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 and remaining there for two weeks. Clarkson has received a nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 52nd Grammy Awards, despite the fact that the album has sold over a million copies in the United States.

"My Life Would Suck Without You" was the first single to become a worldwide sensation. It debuted at number 97 on the Billboard Hot 100 and climbed to the top spot the following week, beating the record for the first leap to number one in a single week, thanks to Britney Spears' "Womanizer"'s "Womanizer." In addition, it dominated the charts in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Hungary. "I Do Not Hook Up" and "Already Gone" were two more top-twenty singles followed, as well as "I Do Not Hook Up" and "Already Gone." After she noticed the similarity of Beyoncé's song "Halo" that was also produced by Tedder, Clarkson and RCA became involved in another controversy between Clarkson and RCA. With the limited success of its fourth and final singles, "All I Ever Wanted" and "Cry," further support for the album was abruptly ended. Clarkson sponsored All I Ever Wanted Tour from 2009 to 2010. In September 2009, she appeared as one of the main artists for VH1 Divas' return to the mainland. Clarkson became a guest mentor on the Dutch television show X Factor in November 2009.

Clarkson's 2010 album "Don't You Want To Stay" featured a country duet with Jason Aldean's "Don't You Want To Stay." It was her first number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, with over 2.7 million copies sold, making it the most popular country collaboration in history. Several awards have been given throughout the United States, including a nomination for Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the 54th Grammy Awards. Clarkson's fifth studio album, Stronger, was also inspired by Prince, Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow, and Radiohead. She worked with many writers, including Greg Kurstin, Ester Dean, Darkchild, Toby Gad, Steve Jordan, and Howard Benson. Stronger debuted on October 21, 2011 and was named platinum by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIAA). At the 2013 Grammy Awards, it was also highly lauded and named Best Pop Vocal Album, making her the first female artist to win the award twice.

"Mr. Know It All" was the lead single on Stronger's debut in September 2011. It ranked first in Australia and South Korea and landed in the top-ten position in seven countries, including the United States, where it became her ninth top-ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also became a crossover hit on the country charts, prompting RCA to reissue a country version. "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" was her second single in January 2012 and topped sixteen Billboard charts, becoming her third number one on the Hot 100. It also ranked first in Poland and Slovakia, and ranked in many other world rankings. It remains Clarkson's best-selling single, with 4.9 million copies sold in the United States alone. The song was nominated for three Grammy Awards, including Best Pop Solo Performance, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance. In June 2012, "Dark Side" was the third and final single, with only modest success. It was her 11th top-ten hit on the Billboard Adult Pop Songs chart, and she defeated Sheryl Crow and Katy Perry as the female artist with the most top-ten songs on the chart.

Two EPs, The Smoakstack Sessions, and the iTunes Session followed Stronger's debut. The former debuted at number 85 on the Billboard 200, but it was marketed as a single, with the slogan "I'll Be Home For Christmas" as its only single. Clarkson co-wrote "Tell Me a lie," which was released by British boy band One Direction for their debut album, Up All Night (2011). Clarkson supported Stronger on two tour tours, the Stronger Tour, and the Kelly Clarkson / The Fray Tour with alternative rock band The Fray. She performed "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Super Bowl XLVI on February 5, 2012, to widespread critical acclaim. "Get Up (A Cowboys Anthem)" was a commercial single released later by the singer for use in Pepsi's NFL commercial campaign.

Clarkson appeared on ABC's Duets, a mentor and judge, alongside John Legend, Jennifer Nettles, and Robin Thicke on May 24, 2012. Clarkson's contestant Jason Farol finished as the second runner-up on the show on July 19, 2012. On season two of the American television series The Voice, Blake Shelton also served as a guest mentor to Blake Shelton's crew. For Shelton's 2012 Christmas album, Cheers, It's Christmas, the two later collaborated on a front of "There's a New Kid in Town."

Clarkson unveiled her first greatest hits album, Greatest Hits – Chapter One, on November 19, 2012. The compilation's three new songs, "Catch My Breath," "Don't Rush" (featuring country musician Vince Gill) and "People Like Us," were all released as singles. "Catch My Breath" became her 14th top-twenty hit on the Hot 100 chart as well as her 13th million-selling single in the United States. It was the third most popular adult contemporary song of 2013, according to Billboard. However, its sequel-up singles did moderately well on the charts. Clarkson received more awards from the country music industry, including Best Country Duo/Group Performance for "Don't Rush" at the 56th annual Grammy Awards and Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2012 Country Music Association Awards. Chapter One was eventually awarded gold in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

At the second inauguration of US President Barack Obama in January 2013, Clarkson performed "My Country, 'Tis of Thee." Critics praised her live version, comparing it to Beyoncé's pre-recorded appearance at the same time. At the 55th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2013, she performed "You Make Me Feel Like" and "You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman" as a tribute to Patti Page and Carole King. In June 2013, she also released "Tie It Up," a non-album single that was exclusive to country music radios. Clarkson and Maroon 5 performed at 24 concerts as part of the 12th Annual Honda Civic Tour, which began on August 1, 2013 and ended on October 6, 2013. She appeared on Jewel's first collection, Greatest Hits (2013), on the re-recorded version of "Foolish Games." Clarkson also collaborated with singer Robbie Williams on the album "Little Green Apples" for his 2013 release "Sings Both Ways.

Wrapped in Red, Clarkson's sixth studio album and first Christmas album, was solely produced by Greg Kurstin. She co-wrote all five original songs and recorded eleven cover versions of Christmas standards and carols. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard Top Holiday Albums and at number three on the Billboard 200 chart, and it debuted on October 25, 2013. Wrapped in Red had already been named platinum by the Royal Institute of British Architects by December 2013 and had then become the year's best-selling holiday album, making her the first American female artist to do so. In both the United States and Canada, the album's lead single, "Under the Tree," was an adult contemporary number one hit. Clarkson became Billboard's ninth top adult contemporary act of 2013. Kelly Clarkson's Cautionary Christmas Music Tale, her first Christmas special appearance, attracted over 5.3 million viewers on December 11, 2013. Citizen Watch Co. named Clarkson as their newest Brand Ambassador in December 2013. Clarkson continued to perform with country music acts in 2014, and on "In the Basement" (originally by Etta James and Sugar Pie DeSanto) for McBride's album Everlasting, as well as Trisha Yearwood's compilation "PrizeFighter" for Yearwood's compilation PrizeFighter: Hit After Hit. Clarkson also performed a version of "All I Ask of You" with Josh Groban on his seventh studio album, Stages, and its companion television special. She appeared on Ben Haenow's "Second Hand Heart," his debut studio album lead single.

Clarkson's seventh and final studio album under her recording deal with RCA Records in February 2015. It is an electropop and dance album with collaborations with Kurstin, Jesse Shatkin, Sia, John Legend, Shane McAnally, and others. Piece by Piece received a warm response from music reviewers, and it became her third album to debut at the top of the Billboard 200 chart. Clarkson appeared on several television shows, including the fourteenth season of American Idol, where she became the only alumnus to be devoted with a competing week devoted to her discography. Throughout 2015, she embraced the Piece by Piece Tour, which fell short of its global visits following medical recommendations for a vocal rest throughout the year.

Three singles were born of Piece by Piece. "Heartbeat Song" became a top-ten hit in the United Kingdom, Austria, Poland, and South Africa, and it was ranked 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Clarkson's second single, "Invince," failed to chart a similar success. Following Clarkson's emotional appearance on the fifteenth season of American Idol, the third and final single, "Piece by Piece," debuted and peaked at number eight on the Hot 100 chart. It was her eleventh top-ten hit and tied "Never Again" for her highest debut on the charts. The album and "Heartbeat Song" were nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, respectively. The Best Pop Solo Performance track received a nomination the following year.
