Music career
In 2005, George joined Avenue, a four-piece boy band. The band auditioned for the third series of the competition in 2006, performing a cappella version of Will Young's "Leave Right Now" after applying to The X Factor. They were mentored by Louis Walsh after finishing the bootcamp and judges' house portion. The band members then signed a long-term management deal with the band, which made it to the final 12. They were disqualified from the competition after being discovered that they were already under contract with another management company. Following disqualification, they were signed to the Crown Music Management recording label and earned an album deal with Island Records.
Avenue's debut single, "Last Goodbye," was released in 2008, and George appeared naked on the AXM magazine cover. The single reached its peak when charting at number 50 on the UK Singles Chart, and plans to go on tour were postponed. In 2009, the company was disbanded.
After successfully launching Parade and The Saturdays, Jayne Collins held a mass audition to form a boy band in 2009. George volunteered and was chosen as one of five members, as well as Nathan Sykes, Siva Kaneswaran, Tom Parker, and Jay McGuiness out of thousands of others who applied. The band was formed and spent time on their debut album before finding The Wanted, a nifty term for their band.
