On August 3, 1980, Nadia Ali was born in Tripoli, Libya, to Pakistani parents. When she was five years old, the family was subsequently raised in Queens, New York City.

Ali began working in Versace's New York offices when she was 17. Versace's colleague, "chanteuse"), invited her to collaborate on some of his original works for a girl group in Germany. The two joined up with Moser on recording, while Ali wrote the lyrics and vocals for the songs. She wrote "Rapture," her first song, based on an experience with an Australian nightclub patron. A demonstration of the song appeared at Twilo's first performance in 2001 and was welcomed early by influential DJ Pete Tong who appeared on BBC Radio 1. After receiving praise from influential D.J.s such as Sasha, Danny Tenaglia, and Sander Kleinenberg during the summer season, the album became a hit in Ibiza. Poetica was their first studio album, and Poetica followed in 2005.
