Son Ho-young Life

Son Ho-young (born March 26, 1980) is a Korean-American singer and musical actor based in South Korea.

After the group went on hiatus, he made his debut in the entertainment industry and pursued a solo career as a singer and musical theater actor.

He has appeared on Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend and other music variety shows.

Early life

Son is the younger of two children and was born in the United States to Korean parents who are naturalized American citizens. They moved to South Korea, but their parents divorced and the siblings stayed in South Korea with their father, a university professor and amateur musician; the mother and son were only reunited as adults. With Kang Sung-hoon and Ko Ji-yong, both of whom went on to form Sechs Kies, Son was elementary and middle school classmates. Despite growing up in a musical household, he had no desire to work in the music industry until he was a teenager. He had a turbulent relationship with his father in adolescence and would run away from home to avoid being disciplined for misdeeding, but he did return to home at age seventeen after nearly three years. When he befriended future g.o.d bandmate Danny Ahn and then auditioned for a charity group that Ahn's cousin Park Joon-hyung was forming, he later revealed that he had been on the streets. After his first return to reconcile with his father and give him a copy of g.o.d's debut album, he returned home.

Personal life

Son and three of his bandmates were injured in a car crash on the Yeongdong Expressway in 2000. He was the most injured and needed hospitalization. It was revealed in March 2006, after g.o.d.'s halt in group operations, that Son had undergone surgery on his right knee as it had never fully recovered from the injury, and that he had been touring throughout the God is Back National Tour, although on painkillers and delayed care.

VJ Son Jung-min, son's older sister, is a performer and actor (ko). They also have a much younger half-sister from their father's second marriage. Since being born in the United States to Korean parents who were naturalized American citizens, his son and his older sister both have American citizenship.

His citizenship was a point of insecurity when his father's estranged second wife revealed in 2005 at a press conference that he had recently given up his Korean citizenship and claimed he did so to avoid mandatory military service. Son explained that he had been granted Korean citizenship as a result of an administrative mistake and had returned his passport at the Immigration Office's request to correct the mistake. He was never eligible for Korean citizenship because he was born overseas to parents who did not have Korean citizenship and therefore did not fulfill the requirements.

The body of a woman in Son's vehicle was discovered on May 21, 2013. They learned that the woman was his girlfriend, who had borrowed his car and later committed suicide in it. The suicide was not related to her son's marriage, according to his father's firm. On the morning of May 24, 2013, Son Ho-young attempted suicide after his girlfriend's death. Son parked his car outside Onnuri Community Church in Seoul at 4:36 a.m. and attempted suicide by torching butane gas inside his vehicle, according to police. The car caught fire, and a passerby noticed the fumes coming out of the car and called the police for assistance. He was rushed to the hospital and was treated right away, leaving no long-term harm to his health.

Danny Ahn, Shoo, and Kim Hwan-sung were all involved in a mixed-gender project group at the time, but they were forced to leave when Shoo signed with S.M. Entertainment; she made her debut as a member of S.E.S.A. Kim was recruited as the last member of NRG, but NRG was not drafted as the last member of the organisation. Ahn was recruited by his cousin Park Joon-hyung to work with EBM and asked Son to audition, but he refused.
