Lee Jung-hyun (born February 7, 1980), also known by her occasional stage name Ava, is a South Korean pop singer and actress.

She was first recognized for her acting abilities with award-winning role in her first film and has been solidified as one of the top international acts from South Korea with her illustrious singing career.

She has been known as "the Techno Queen" as she introduced the techno music genre to Korea.

Lee is also known as "The Queen of Transformation" due to her changing new look for different songs.

Personal life

Lee married an orthopedic doctor in a private ceremony in 2019. During her appearance on Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant, her husband, whose face was censored due to privacy concerns, was dubbed as "Baby".

On December 7, 2021, Lee announced that she is pregnant on her YouTube channel.

On April 23, 2022, Lee's agency confirmed that Lee gave birth to her first daughter on April 20, 2022.

Lee Jung-hyun made her acting debut in A Petal in 1996, where she was named 'Best New Actress' at the 34th Grand Bell Awards, 17th Blue Dragon Film Awards, and 16th Korean Association of Film Critics Awards. The film follows the life of a girl who experienced the Gwangju uprising at the age of 15, as well as its effects on her later years. Lee has served in numerous acting roles in South Korea, Japan, and China since 1996.

Lee regained her acting debuts with the Chinese film Confucius in 2010, portraying Nanzi. In Park Chan-wook and Park Chan-kyong's award-winning fantasy short film Night Fishing, which was shot entirely on an iPhone, Lee portrayed a shaman in 2011. At the 2011 Berlin International Film Festival, Night Fishing took home the Golden Bear for Best Short Film. In 2012, Lee starred a single mother in Juvenile Offender, which received Best Feature at the Tokyo International Film Festival. She was the sole female character in the main cast of the 2014 period blockbuster The Admiral: Roaring Currents. In the SBS' drama "The Family Is Coming," Lee returned to television.

Lee starred in the black comedy film Alice in Earnestland, which earned her 'Best Actress' at the 36th Blue Dragon Film Awards & 3rd Wildflower Film Awards. Lee appeared in Split in 2016 and the war film The Battleship Island in 2017. Lee is set to appear in the romantic comedy film Shall We Do It Again in 2019.

Lee appeared in the zombie film Peninsula in 2020. She appeared in Park Chan-wook's suspense film Decision to Leave later this year.

Lee etched her singing career by debuting with an award-winning acting role and reinventing styles for each and every song. For each issue, Lee creates a new persona, such as a mermaid, Barbie doll, army, Korean folk dancer, belly dancer, or princess of the sea. Over the years, she has earned many names, including Techno Queen of Korea, Queen of Performance Art, Ms. Charisma, Little Giant, and Queen of Change.

She appeared on the music video before releasing her first solo album "Fever." She appeared in "The Rule of the Game" by Goofy's music video.

Her early career was characterized by techno-style dance music. Wa (, "Come"), her first single, debuted on the Korean charts for three weeks, and Bakkweo (, "Change"), her second, received accolades for Best Song and Most Broadcast Song. Artists from Asia and Europe covered these two songs. Many of her older songs are performed in an upbeat mood from the viewpoint of a rejected lover. In December 2004, Lee released Japanese versions of her early hits Wa and Heaven. In Week 3 of January 2005, the single debuted at number 26 on the Oricon chart. Lee was invited to appear in Heaven and Wacome on December 31, 2004 and on display at the 55th edition of Khaku Uta Gassen, the annual New Year's Eve live music festival. Lee was the first foreigner to perform in the Beijing Olympic 2008 Theme Song. She released her first Mandarin album, "Love Me," in 2008.

She transitioned to a Latin-influenced sound on her fifth album, Passion, as complete with Spanish Guitar and flamenco-style tap dance.

"Crazy," "Vogue It Girl," and "Miro" were among Ava's songs on her first Korean mini album Avaholic, which included a trio of songs, including "Crazy," "Vogue It Girl" and "Miro." Brian Friedman choreographed "Crazy" on a music video. In September 2009, she was invited to open Lady Gaga's The Fame Ball Tour in Club Answer, Seoul, South Korea. Lee sung her first ballad for the soundtrack of the Korean television drama Iris in December 2009. For the first time in her over 10-year singing career, her album, "How Can I Hold Back Tears," brings her to the ballad genre.

"Suspicious Man" was her seventh album, which was released on May 11, 2010. Lee demonstrated her dynamic performance range in this title single's music video by debuting a vengeful assassin with a short blonde do. "007th" was the seventh album on the record.
