Marvin Humes Career

Career

Oritsé Williams mainly wanted to get into the music business. He was initially recruited for a variety of boy bands but didn't feel they were appropriate, Williams decided to create his own boy band and met Marvin Humes, who had worked in R&B and pop music as a member of VS in 2004. Aston Merrygold, who was once cast in the ITV children's program Fun Song Factory due to his physical appearance, was next to join. JB Gill was the first member of the group to join the group due to his "focal ear" and harmonies. They banded together, became colleagues, and were dubbed UFO (an acronym that stands for Unique Famous Outrageous). They began working on Tracklacers, who developed a sound they later referred to as "Jack the lad" and the contemporary jack swing's urban music. "UFO" was immediately signed to Epic Records as a student at the University of Waterloon, before receiving their first award at the Urban Music Awards in late 2007 for Best Unsigned Act, thanks to Ben E. King's mash-up and "Beautiful Girls" by Sean Kingston's mash-up of "Stand by Me" and "Beautiful Girls." They've followed their second single, "Slap Ya Elbow," shortly after. The group acknowledges "DJ Triz," who produced one of UFO's first songs and assisted in the writing of it.

UFO auditioned for the fifth series of The X Factor in 2008, but they were forced to change their name because another group was already using it, so they decided to go with JLS (an acronym that was used by Tracklacers some months ago). JLS was Louis Walsh's last remaining act in the competition after the dissolution of girl groups Bad Lashes and Girlband in weeks one and two, respectively, but the judges deemed them the best band to come out of The X Factor. JLS and Rachel Hylton were in the bottom two in week 7. However, they did well thanks to Walsh, Cheryl Cole, and Simon Cowell's votes. When casting his deciding vote, Cowell said that JLS did not have to be in the bottom two. "Baby One More Time" performed in week eight and received derogatory feedback from two of the four judges, with Cowell saying they were "back in the game" and that they may "have a hit record" with the performance.

"Umbrella" and "I'm Already There" were two JLS songs in week 9. Cowell then predicted that they would win the competition. They made it to the final and performed their own interpretation of the winner's song, "Hallelujah," which the other finalist Alexandra Burke also performed. Burke won the competition for the second time that night, with JLS finishing runners up. They were the fourth band to reach the final. Following their success on Cowell's record company, Syco, they were supposed to sign JLS; however, Cowell withdrew to focus on Alexandra Burke. The band's manager hoped that the band would be a good match for Epic Records, with whom they signed a new deal in January 2009.

JLS signed to Epic Records following their appearance on The X Factor. Both their first two singles, "Beat Again" and "Everybody in Love," have risen to the top of the UK Singles Chart. The band's self-titled debut album was out on November 9, 2009, and it has since sold over one million copies in the United Kingdom. At the 2010 BRIT Awards, JLS received the prizes for British Breakthrough and British Single ("Beat Again"). They also received numerous accolades at the Mobo Awards for Best Song for "Beat Again" in 2009 and also Best Newcomer in the same year. They received the MOBO Awards for Best UK Act and Best Album in 2010. The pair went on to win their fifth MOBO Award in 2012 by winning Best Video for "Do You Feel What I Feel?" In 2011 and 2012, the group became the UK's hardest-working band for two consecutive years.

JLS signed a multi-year contract with Jive Records in the United States in 2010 and single "Everybody in Love" was released as their debut US single, but it failed to chart. The lead single from their second studio album, "The Club Is Alive," was released in the United Kingdom in July 2010, earning the band their third number one on the UK Singles Chart. The group's fourth UK number one, "Love You More," was the group's official single for Children in Need in 2010. Dev's single "She Makes Me Wanna" debuted on their fifth UK number one. As of 2012, their debut album and single have been named one of The X Factor's top ten best-selling debut singles and albums. JLS has more than ten million units around the world. They are the 16th richest reality TV stars in the United Kingdom, with an estimated fortune of £6 million per person and totalling £24 million.

Humes signed an acting agent in December 2012, in the hopes of getting a foothold on a promising show, which would give him the opportunity to start a career in acting after JLS came to an end. Following their fifth album and tour, the band would break down on April 24, 2013. On October 24, 2013, the band Forever and a Day, One Last Goodbye X, appeared. On the last night of JLS' "Goodbye - The Greatest Hits Tour" tour, the last night of their "Goodbye - The Greatest Hits Tour" was recorded on December 22, 2013.

Humes revealed on social media pages on July 23, 2014 that he had formed LuvBug, a new dance group based on the words "The White N3RD & JKAY". They had officially signed to Polydor Records, and their first single, "Resonance" starring Talay Riley, was released on October 5, 2014. On the week of October 18, 2014, it reached its peak at number 13. In February 2015, the follow-up single "Revive (Say Something)" was number 17 in the UK charts.

LuvBug's new single "Best is Yet to Come" was released on February 5, 2016 and it was first released in April 2016.

Humes first hosted his own radio show, #FridayNightCapital, on the Capital network on Friday evenings between 7 p.m. and ten p.m. on Friday evenings as the official start of "The Weekend Lives on Capital."

Humes replaced Rich Clarke on The Vodafone Big Top 40, which airs on Sundays on Capital, Heart, and more than 100 commercial music radio stations, on 5 January 2014. In 2018, he left the show.

Global revealed on March 11 that Humes would take over the Capital Late Show, which runs Monday-Thursday, 10 p.m., to replace Will Cozens.

Humes will co-present One Love Manchester on Global Radio stations on June 4, 2017.

Humes made his television debut on August 23, 2013, co-presenting ITV's This Morning with his wife Rochelle Humes. The couple were not regular stand-in presenters until 2015. Humes was a regular correspondent for ITV's Surprise Surprise Surprise, hosted by Holly Willoughby.

Humes was announced as Reggie Yates' replacement for BBC One's third series of The Voice UK's third series, which began on October 11, 2014. Emma Willis appeared in series 3, 4, 5 and 5. Humes was the co-presenter of the show in 2017, which was later broadcast on ITV.

Humes has co-presented BBC's Children in Need appeal with his wife, Rochelle Humes, since 2016. In an episode of The Keith & Paddy Picture Show, he appeared in Apollo Creed.

Humes will co-host a music quiz show with wife Rochelle Humes on BBC One on November 20, 2018. The Hit List debuted in May 2019 and was recommissioned for a second series that will air later this year. In 2020, a new series was announced, and it was scheduled to premiere in 2020.

Humes guest appeared on Humese Women in the ITV daytime show Loose Women, becoming the first male host in the show's 21-year history as well as an all male panel on Friday.

Despite the band's plans to tour the summer, JLS star Oritse Williams hasn't ruled out new music from being released

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 2, 2024
Despite planning to embark on a comeback tour around the UK this summer, JLS haven't ruled out the possibility of releasing new music. The group, which includes Aston Merrygold, JB Gill, Marvin Humes, and Oritse Williams, would rather perform familiar hits for fans rather than perform unknown songs. Oritse wrote to The Sun, "We have a lot of music on our shelves we haven't performed, including JLS 2.0, the album, and the Evolution album.'
