Early life and career beginnings
Grannis grew up in Mission Viejo, California. Grannis attended Viejo Elementary School, Newhart Middle School, and Capistrano Valley High School, 1999 to 2003. Grannis was enrolled at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles in 2003. Thornton School of Music faculty members asked her to record an album in their music and music industry departments two years ago. Sincerely, Me., was released the same year as the album. She received a diploma in social science with an emphasis on psychology in 2007. Phi Beta Kappa was initiated into academic society while attending USC.
Career
Grannis released two more albums in 2006, One More in the Attic and In Memory of the Singing Bridge. She wrote "Ours to Keep" by Rachael Lawrence and Deborah Ellen in early 2007. This song will be on General Hospital every day, and was included in an episode of the ABC Family's mini-series Samurai Girl in September 2008.
On November 14, 2007, she began posting YouTube videos of her songs online. "Message From Your Heart" was her first video to be entered in the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl competition. The Orange County Register and The Wall Street Journal covered her progress in the competition. FOX News Los Angeles, Good Day Los Angeles, and Yahoo! The competition, which she won, earned her a deal with Interscope Records. Grannis had intended to work with Interscope Records to produce a new album, but she revealed in January 2009 that she would not be leaving the label to be an independent artist.
Grannis performed the national anthem for the Auto Club 500 NASCAR race in Fontana, California, on February 24, 2008. Grannis' Stairwells Springtime Tour began in San Francisco on May 24, 2010 and ended in late June after many stints on the East Coast and in Canada. On September 17, 2010, she began her Fall Tour and ended on November 17, 2010. She appeared at the Lilith Fair in St. Louis, Missouri, on July 10, 2010. Grannis appeared in a Wong Fu Productions miniseries named "Funemployed" in 2010. After a month-long online voting period, Grannis was named of Sirius/XM CoffeeHouse's 2010 Singer-Songwriter Discovery of the Year. For the German television series Anna und die Liebe, she performed "Heart and Mind." Nearly six months later, she kept up the promises and released a video for "The Fire," Elements' first single. The album showcases acoustics and folk-driven vocals. Following week, another album track was revealed on video with a stripped-down version of "My Own" starring her sisters. On Glamour's "Obsessed Blog," "Dear River," an upbeat track, premiered. Elements debuted at No. 1 in the United States. No. 48 on the Billboard 200, No. 48. On the Billboard Americana/Folk chart, there are 4 positions and No. Billboard's Independent Albums chart ranks 7th on the Billboard Independent Albums chart. Elements reached No. 1 on the first day of their debut on the Internet. No. 2 on the iTunes Singer Songwriter Chart, and No. 8 on the Top Songseller Chart. 1 on iTunes Canada is the 1st page on the website.
Grannis revealed that she would be celebrating the unveiling of her sophomore studio album Elements with fans at a handful of intimate shows around North America, beginning with a display at the Troubadour in Hollywood on May 6 – Elements' launch date. She appeared in San Francisco, New York City, Brooklyn, DC, Boston, Toronto, and Chicago. Fans of Elements live for the first time since being in her first official headline run since 2012.
Grannis began her Elements tour in Europe and North America in late 2014 and 2015. She embarked on a tour of Southeast Asia, but she and her band were only able to attend two performances before being arrested by Indonesian authorities for having the wrong kind of visas. After three months, Grannis and her crew were barred from the country.
In April 2014, Grannis joined Patenny, a Jack Conte website that was designed to help artists survive by direct funding.
Grannis launched a record label made entirely of her clients in April 2017 and began selling an album entirely funded by her supporters. The record label was referred to as KG Records on instructions from these supporters. Grannis began recording, composing, and releasing tracks from the forthcoming album in 2017.
