Jesse Lacey Life

Jesse Thomas Lacey (born 1977, Nassau County, New York) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer who is best known as Brand New's lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, although he hasn't released any solo music and instead appears in Brand New's front page, as well as reporting other bands.

Lacey has produced and coproduced a number of albums, including those by his band Brand New, Kevin Devine's "Bubblegum," and a Cymbals Eat Guitars track.

Lacey was the band's first bassist of Taking Back Sunday but he left the band in 2001 before any of their recorded material was released.

Early life

Lacey was born in a Christian family on Long Island and attended services regularly, but Lacey has said that Christianity was never coerced on him. His parents listened to bands like the Beatles, Steely Dan, Simon and Garfunkel, Bruce Springsteen, which Lacey has said played a part in both his passion and taste in music, as well as good music. Billy Joel, Weird Al, and Michael W. Smith's Big Picture were among the first Lacey owned albums.

Lacey and John Nolan attended General Douglas MacArthur High School in Levittown, New York, together with General Douglas MacArthur High School. Following Nolan's encouragement to Lacey to play the bass guitar, the two friends would go on to form a number of bands during their high school years, one of which was named Gudmunder Bjornsen. When playing in the church choir, he also learned how to play the trombone. Lacey, Jonathan Lane, Brian Lane, and Brandon Reilly formed the Rookie Lot in 1998, which would feature a split EP as well as a demo tape.

Lacey formed Taking Back Sunday with guitarist Eddie Reyes in November 1999; after adding Nolan to the band, Lacey switched to bass guitar. He contributed bass guitar and backing vocals to their first album in 2001, but the band broke up during the recording sessions after Nolan slept with Lacey's girlfriend. Lacey had worked at several different shops before becoming a full-time musician, including serving at Gap Inc., a skate and bike shop, and also spent two days at McDonald's before deciding "sexual harassment is going to happen," she said.

Personal life

Lacey is the second oldest of seven siblings, one of whom is a teacher. Cody Lacey, another of his siblings, is serving in the United States Navy. Jamey Lacey's brother plays in the band Coasta. His father is a nurse.

Lacey was a student at Nassau Community College in Long Island, studying child psychology and elementary education before forming Brand New Lacey. The two friends' low attendance in school with fellow guitarist John Nolan. Lacey and his Brand New bandmates later announced that the "situation cleared up a lot faster than most expected" and that fans and the media had brought the issue out of proportion. Lacey has referred to fellow musician Kevin Devine as one of his finest friends, as well as citing him as a musical influence.

Lacey is a student at the University of Ongoing, she has a passion for photography and graphic design, and she has participated in the creation and composing of artwork for a number of Brand New launches.

Lacey is married to Andrea King of Andrea. Bowie Charles Lacey is the child of their one child.

Lacey apologised on Brand New's Facebook page and confessed to having a sex addiction in his youth, which he had been seeking medical attention for more than a decade before the charges were revealed.

Jesse Lacey Career

Musical career

After the Rookie Lot defunct, its current owners, with the exception of Reilly (who created the Movielife), will form Brand New, recruiting Vincent Accardi as an additional guitarist. The band's debut album Your Favorite Weapon debuted in 2001 after recording and releasing a number of demos. Lacey also wrote lyrics for all of the songs, as well as lead vocals and guitar for the album.

The band toured heavily up until they started working on their second album in February 2003. Lacey, who was on the road, produced a large portion of the album on acoustic guitar in his bedroom. The band was engulfed in a bidding war between labels as a result of the album's success.

Lacey, who had completed the lengthy tour and promotion cycle for their album Deja Entendu, was uncertain whether he wanted to drop another track. Lacey said in an interview that he had come to the conclusion that he no longer wanted to be associated with many of the people and bands he'd encountered over the past years with Brand New, and he also felt as though he had no acquaintances. The band defunct after a string of writing and recording sessions in late 2004. Lacey became sick in spring 2005 and underwent surgery for a variety of ailments.

Lacey and his bandmates deliberately embedded themselves in their grief following the loss of several of his acquaintances and relatives, bringing the sadness into songwriting with the intention of extorting it. Lacey, who had been disillusioned and disinterested in the bands and people they loved, discovered friendship in bands including Thrice, mewithoutYou, Manchester Orchestra, and Kevin Devine, remarking that they had "created a small community." Lacey also stated that the writing and recording of their third album, The Devil and the God Are Raging Inside Me, saved the band. Lacey and his Brand New bandmates cofounded Procrastinate in 2008! Traitors of Music.

On April 27, 2004, one of Lacey's first solo shows, Brand New, appeared at The Downtown in Farmingdale, New York, with a mix of covers and songs by his band. Lacey and Kevin Devine appeared on acoustic tour in the United States with Grace Read, while Lacey performed Brand New music once more, as well as performing various tracks with Devine.

Kevin Devine and Brooklyn native Brian Bonz, who later admitted in an interview that at this point, he wanted only to tour and perform Brand New material solo, claiming that "the songs lack meaning" without his bandmates beside him. Lacey began performing solo with Devine on December 12, 2015, and was soon-after revealed to be part of Devine's Devinyl splits collection, including a front of R.E.M. "Bad Day" is set to be released early in 2016.

Lacey has regularly collaborated with Kevin Devine, both in the studio and live. Lacey was featured on Kevin Devine's album Split the Country Split the Street in 2005, giving vocals on the songs "Cotton Crush," "Afterparty," and "No One Else's Case." He'll be back to the album Brother's Blood in 2009, performing on "Tomorrow's Just Too Late" again.

Lacey released the album Bubblegum in 2013. Lacey's first album that he had produced outside of Brand New was initially nervous. Lacey, Kevin Devine, performed onstage and on tour with Manchester Orchestra.

Other Lacey appearances include playing bass guitar on the track "Rocket" on the Intramural 2007 album This Is a Landslide, as well as providing bass and guitar on Grace Read's song "Cloak and Dagger" from her EP Young Guns. Lacey performed their song "Nature Nurture" at several Brand New shows in 2014 and 2015.

Lacey and his partner Andrea also published a copy of "In Spite of Ourselves," written by John Prine in February 2015. Lacey and Mike Sapone co-produced "Aerobed" for the band Cymbals Eat Guitars in 2015 as part of Kevin Devine's Devinyl Splits collection.

Halsey, an American singer who is a publicized Brand New fan, referred to Lacey as "largely responsible for why I write in such detail." As a result of her sampling the "(Fork and Knife)" demo on Halsey's 2020 album Manic, Lacey and the rest of the band earned songwriting credits on her album "Alanis' Interlude." In Manic's liner notes, Brand New was thanked.
