Alex Ebert Life

Alexander Michael Tahquitz Ebert (born May 12, 1978) is an American singer-songwriter and composer.

He is best known for his work as the lead singer and songwriter for the American bands Ima Robot and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.

Ebert received the Golden Globe Award for his original score to the film All Is Lost (2013) on January 12, 2014.

Early life

Ebert was born in Los Angeles in 1978, the son of a psychotherapist, Michael Ebert, and actress Lisa Richards. His father would often take the family on long car rides through the desert. On one such trip, his mother took a video of his father chanting in the desert, cradling Alex's baby sister Gabi, which would one day be included in the Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros song "Desert Song." Carl Ebert, his grandfather, had been Intendant of the Berliner Oper, Berlin; he was also a well-known actor trained by Max Reinhardt.

Alexander Michael Tahquitz Ebert was his full name, as his father took one of his son's names from Tahquitz Rock, his favorite climbing rock. Alex later discovered that Tahquitz is the word for a "demon" in the Cahuilla people's Native American language.

His father inspired teenage Alexander by performing music by artists like Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Cash. He also cites 60s R&B, Pavarotti, and Beethoven as influences, as well as his elementary school (Children's Community School), Ruth Belonsky, a woman from South Africa. As an adult, Ebert loved hip-hop and originally intended to be a rapper.

Ebert developed an obsession for film and cinematic studies after a school project on Marlon Brando. His mother embraced his budding passion, and Ebert was enrolled in extracurricular filmmaking classes. Ebert attended Oakwood School for high school and Emerson College for a short time before dropping out. After being rejected, Ebert produced a short film and wrote several screenplays. He attributes the revival of his interest in professional music to his childhood friends and heavy drug use during this time of his life.

Personal life

Ebert has a daughter with former partner Roehm Hepler-Gonzalez. Ebert is currently in a relationship with actress Jena Malone as of 2019.

Alex Ebert Career

Career

In 1997, Ebert began writing and recording music (mainly rap) with his longtime colleague Tim "Timmy the Terror" Anderson. The pair, who were occasionally joined by local DJs and long-time colleagues Oliver "Oligee" Goldstein and Jason "One Three/ComputerJay" Taylor, performed demos under various other names before settling on a single name, Ima Robot, which derives from an inside joke between Anderson and Ebert. Ima Robot's first member, Goldstein, began recording demos and performing shows around Los Angeles. On 2002, the band was signed to Virgin Records. Ima Robot, their first full-length album, was released on September 6, 2003, and it contained the singles "Dynomite" and "Song #1." After the departure of Goldstein (and other members), bassist Filip Nikolic joined in 2005. Ima Robot's second album Monument to the Masses, 2006, featured singles "Cheps Me Out" and "Lovers in Captivity." The band regained their freedom from Virgin Records in April 2007 and went to work unsigned under Alexis Rivera of Echo Park Records' care. On April 15, 2008, the band's "Gangster" debut, with its lyrics published in a blog post by the band. The band announced the upcoming release of their new album, Another Man's Treasure, on the internet in 2010 and released the track "Ruthless." They are now being portrayed by Anderson's Werewolf Heart brand. The majority of the songs were recorded between two and four years ago, according to Ebert, who says he looks forward to performing music with Anderson and Nikolic again. Ebert expressed disappointment with the band's features, saying he "pretty unironically ended up looking like a robot by the time of the process due to the big name thing."

After years of his Los Angeles party life and subsequent heroin use, Ebert and his then-girlfriend split up, walked out of his house, and spent some time in rehab. Edward Sharpe, his alter ego, was born during this period. "I don't want to put too much faith in it because, in some ways, it's just a mark that I came up with." However, I suppose I would have lost my identity in general if I looked deeper. I had no idea what was going on or who I was anymore. Adopting another name gave me a chance to recover." Sharpe was turned into a messianic figure by Ebert, who wrote: "He was sent down to Earth to sorta heal and save humanity, but he was distracted by girls and falling in love."

Despite the fact that the band would eventually grow to a group of ten people, Ebert began writing and recording entirely alone, playing "the horn lines with my mouth or a kazoo on the demos" and "all the background vocals layering [him] himself, pretending that there were people present." With the addition of singer Jade Castrinos, who found himself on an outdoor bench and knew he wanted to have a relationship with her, the band began to take shape. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros were conceived of the ashes of their teenage affair. They began writing together and became members of the art and music group The Masses, which was partially funded by some seed money from actor Heath Ledger. Although their friendship began in a short time, the group soon expanded to more than ten members, some of whom had been Ebert's friends since he was young. They were touring the country by the summer 2009 holidays. Up from Below, their first album, was released in July 2009. On May 10, 2012, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, announcing their forthcoming album, Here, which was released on May 29, 2012. On July 23, 2013, the Magnetic Zeros' third full-length album, self-titled Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, was released. They appeared on the Late Show to support the album once more, this time on the track "Life Is Hard."

On the most recent album, PersonA, Ebert tried to change by saying, "In a lot of ways this album does things that are missing." "Why not kill him?" Edward Sharpe's name was crossed out on the front page, so he continued to question why he wasn't killed him." He never really was there. If anything, and most importantly, Edward Sharpe was a tool for me to slough off whatever I had been up to or allow my pure self to come out as a clean slate."

Alexander is Ebert's first solo album released in 2011. On September 12, 2011, he appeared on Conan to promote his solo album.

Ebert would appear on Avicii's single "For a Better Day" from his album Stories on August 4, 2015.

On September 30, 2015, "Feel the Bern" was added to Ebert's SoundCloud. "Feel the Bern" is a theme that was a campaign against Bernie Sanders and the Obama administration, and the anthem honors the movement surrounding him.

I vs. I, Ebert's second non-soundtrack solo album, was released on January 31, 2020. I vs. Ebert has said that this album is "the most in-my-emotions, emo, self-centered album that I've possibly ever produced," but that it's part of my journey to get back to myself."

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical by Ebert wrote the song "Daddy Knows Best" by Ebert. Cyndi Lauper, Panic, and others were among the songwriters who contributed to the score (which included Cyndi Lauper, Panic!) Ebert received the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Score (Broadway or Off-Broadway), as well as the Best Original Score at the Disco (John Legend).

It comes after she said in a long Instagram post on Saturday that she felt like "a heterosexual man in a woman's body."
