Colbie Caillat Career

Life and career

Caillat was born in Malibu, California, and he grew up in Newbury Park, California. Ken Caillat, her father, co-produced Fleetwood Mac's Rumours (1977), Tusk (1979), and Mirage (1982) albums. When she was a child, her parents gave her the name "Coco," which she would later refer to on her debut album.

Caillat began piano lessons as an infant, but she didn't get any inspiration until she turned 11 years old, when she was enthralled with Lauryn Hill's appearance in Sister Act 2. She knew she wanted to be a performer and started taking vocal lessons, and appeared onstage for the first time in sixth grade. Since then, she has been covering Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly," which had previously been covered by Lauryn Hill, and Hill's own "Tell Him."

Caillat discovered producer Mikal Blue, who had hired her to perform on techno songs used at fashion shows, shortly. Caillat began playing the acoustic guitar at the age of 19, and Blue helped her record her first song.

She auditioned for American Idol but was turned down at the pre-audition stage and was unable to perform for the judges. She performed her own original song, "Bubbly," which was rejected once more when she auditioned for the second time. Caillat expressed admiration for the judges' decision, saying, "I was shy." I was worried. I wasn't the best at it. I wasn't sure about it yet, but I wasn't ready for it yet. When I auditioned, I was relieved to learn that they said no."

Caillat's MySpace page prompted her to become the country's top-one unsigned singer for four months in a row.

Coco, Caillat's debut album, was released in Australia and Asia on July 10, 2007, and a week later in North America. On September 3, 2008, in Japan, and November 11, 2008, worldwide, it was released in a deluxe version. The album was rated platinum by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIAA), with shipments to 2,000,000 units in the United States. "Bubbly," the album's first single, debuted at number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 and at number two on the Pop 100. For 19 and 14 weeks, it also topped the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks and Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks charts for 19 and 14. The single was rated platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America on December 13, 2007, with downloads of more than 2.6 million in the United States. On November 20, she launched "Mistletoe" as a Christmas song and peaked at number 76 on Billboard Hot 100. The song was the most downloaded holiday song of 2007. It was also included in the film Baby Mama. Coco's second single, "Realityize," debuted on January 23, 2008, peaking at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, becoming her second Top 20 hit in the United States.

"The Little Things" was released in Germany on March 7, 2008, and in the United States in October 2008. The single did not do well in the United States, and it was her lowest charting single from the album, peaking at number seven on the US Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100. She also recorded a French-speaking version of this song. The original music video was shot in San Francisco and was exclusive to Europe. It was shot in Hawaii and was a prequel to "Bubbly." "Somethin' Special (Beijing Olympic Mix)," the album's fourth and final single, was released on July 29, 2008. The album was only in the deluxe version. It was announced to help the American athletes participating in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, in China, and was also included on the AT&T Team USA Soundtrack. Caillat appears in the music video as he performs on Schiller's "You" and appears on "You." She has appeared on the soundtrack to Imagine That; she and Mikal Blue sing "Here Comes the Sun" by the Beatles. In the album "Hoy Me Voy," Colombian singer Juanes' album La Vida... es un ratico (en vivo). In October, the song "Midnight Bottle" was included in the Brazilian soap opera Três Irm's soundtrack. She also appeared in this soap opera and performed the song. Caillat sang and co-wrote Taylor Swift's "Breathe" on her album, Fearless, and she sang it out.

Caillat's album, We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things, was released on January 13, 2009. Breakthrough, Caillat's second album, was released in August 2009. Jason Reeves and guitarist David Becker co-wrote the majority of the album, as well as featured guitarist David Becker on two tracks. Becker has worked with Caillat's father Ken. Caillat had writer's block during the recording sessions, so she enlisted Kara DioGuardi and Jason Reeves, who went to Hawaii for three weeks, rented a beach house, and wrote songs. Breakthrough debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart with first-week sales of 106,000 copies, her first album to debut at the top and an improvement on her debut album Coco (2004), which came in first at number five with only 51,000 copies. It was also Universal Music Group's sixth straight number-one album to debut at the top. The Recording Industry Association of America later named it gold (RIAA). "Fallin' for You" was the first single to be released on June 29, 2009. As Melinda Newman of HitFix describes the "lilting" mid-tempo ballad, it "features an instantly catchy chorus and toe tapping melody." It enjoyed chart success in the United States, debuting at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, her second highest-charting single and her highest debut with 118,000 first-week downloads, and the top the Adult Contemporary chart. It also ranked in four other countries and top-forty in the remaining territories, and was also in the top-20 in the four other countries.

"Begin Again" and "You Got Me" were originally intended to be the album's second single, but "I Never Told You" was released instead on February 16, 2010. It reached number forty-eight on the Billboard Hot 100 and was more popular on the Adult Pop Songs, where it peaked at number three, and on the Adult Contemporary, where it soared to number eleven. The set, largely produced by Greg Wells, includes one guest appearance by rapper/actor Common, who appears on "Favorite Song," while her songwriting co-stars include Ryan Tedder, Toby Gad, Jason Reeves, and Rick Nowels, while Rick Nowels appear on "Favorite Song." With AI-generated vocals of Drake and Weeknd, Universal has pulled a song for "infringing content."

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 18, 2023
The Universal Music Group has been banned from streaming services for 'infringing content created with generative AI'. The song went viral over the weekend and by the time it was taken down yesterday afternoon, it had been streamed 600,000 times on Spotify and received 15 million views on TikTok views and 275,000 on YouTube. The song, which is titled Heart on My Sleeve, is said to have been created with AI technology that is familiar with artists' music, and it'represents both a breach of our agreements and a violation of copyright legislation,' UMG said. The song was initially posted on TikTok by a user named Ghostwriter977 and posted on streaming platforms under the name Ghostwriter, according to some. The music label told Billboard magazine that the viral posts "demonstrate why websites have a fundamental constitutional and ethical obligation to refrain from using their services in ways that harm artists."
