Sharman Joshi (born 28 April 1979) is an Indian film and theatre actor.

He has appeared and directed stage performances in English, Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati languages, but his work in Hindi films has been most well known.

In Godmother (1999), he made his acting debut.

He made his debut as a co-lead actor in the Bollywood (Hindi) film Style (2001) and his subsequent appearances in hit films including Rang De Basanti (2006), Golmaal (2006), Hate Story 3 (2015), Mission Mangal (2016), 1970 London (2016).

He is playing a lead role in Kaashi's In Search of Ganga and 3 Storeys.

He is best known for his role in the film 3 Idiots as Raju Rastogi.

Early life

Joshi is a member of a Gujarati Brahmin family of actors and performers. Arvind Joshi, his father, was a veteran of Gujarati theatre, while his aunt Sarita Joshi (Bhosle) and cousins performed in Marathi and Gujarati theatres. Manasi Joshi Roy is his sister, and actor Rohit Roy is his brother-in-law.

Personal life

On June 15, 2000, Joshi married Prerana Chopra, the niece of actor Prem Chopra, at the age of 21. The couple have three children.

Joshi has appeared, produced, and directed stage performances in English, Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati languages. He directed and appeared in many theatre productions. In a Gujarati version of popular play All the Best, which attracted more than 550 shows in three years, he appeared as a deaf character. "Ame Layi Gaya, Tame Rahi Gaya," his fourth favorite comedy play, was also titled "Ame Layi Gaya," in which he appeared in four different roles. Main Aur Tum, the Hindi rom-com, made his directorial debut in 2016. It stars him and Tejashree Pradhan in the lead role.

In the 1999 art film Godmother, he made his film debut. Style (2001), a N Chandra product, was followed by this. Style was followed by its sequel Xcuse Me (2003) and other comedies such as Shaadi No. 1 (2005). He appeared in Rang De Basanti in 2006 and 2006. Later this year, he appeared in the comedy film Golmaal. He appeared in Life in a... Metro, Dhol, and Raqeeb. In Hello, Chetan Bhagat's film adaptation of His book One Night @ the Call Center, he appeared as Shyam for the first year. In Sorry Bhai, Joshi was the male lead. In 2008, and one of the three main characters (Raju Rastogi) in the 2009 film 3 Idiots, which was based on Chetan Bhagat's book Five Point Someone, appeared. In the erotic-thriller Wajah Tum Ho, he also played the role of a cop. He has appeared in the Bollywood films Kaashi in Search of Ganga (2018) and 3 Storeys. He is best known for his role in the film 3 Idiots as Raju Rastogi. He made his digital debut with Baarish, Balaji Telefilms' production in 2019, as the male lead opposite to Asha Negi.

In 2009, he hosted a game show at Real T.V. Dil Sachcha Chehra Jhootha, a British game show called PokerFace, was based on a British game show called PokerFace. He has been honoured with the Life Membership of the International Film and Television Club of the Asian Academy of Film & Television. Sharman used to be typecast throughout his career and talked about it at a TEDx conference in Mumbai in January, 2017.
