Joseph Namakaeha Momoa (born August 1, 1979) is an American actor.

Aquaman appeared in the DC Extended Universe, beginning with Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016 and his 2017 solo film Aquaman in Aquaman.

He portrayed Lifeguard Jason Ioane in Baywatch Hawaii.

He appeared on television as Ronon Dex on the HBO fantasy television series Game of Thrones and Declan Harp in the CBC series Frontier. In the Conan the Barbarian (2011), a semi-remake of the 1982 classic Conan the Barbarian starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Momoa portrayed the title character.

Road to Paloma was Momoa's first film as director, writer, and producer.

He appeared in the lead role in the film, which was released on July 11, 2014.

Early life

Momoa, Hawaii's only child, was born on August 1, 1979, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Coni (Lemke), a photographer, and Joseph Momoa, a painter. He attended the University of Hawaii. His father is of Native Hawaiian origins, and his mother is of German and Irish origins, with self-identified Pawnee roots.

Personal life

On the set of Baywatch in 1999, Momoa encountered his first fiance, actor Simmone Jade Mackinnon. They were together for six years before becoming engaged in 2004. After Momoa's first encounter with actress Lisa Bonet in 2005, Mackinnon and Momoa decided against it. Although it was once believed that Momoa and Bonet married on November 15, 2007, the couple did not marry until October 2017. Bonet gave birth to their first child, a daughter, in July 2007. In December 2008, the couple's second child, a boy, was born. Momoa and Bonet announced their divorce in January 2022.

For his role as Ronon in Stargate Atlantis, Momoa learned martial arts. Momoa began practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu in 2017.

He is a fan of heavy metal music, and has revealed that he "build[s] [his] characters are based on metal songs." He invited members of Archspire to appear in the first episode of the TV series See, as well as practicing proper screaming with Archspire's vocalist, Oli Peters, for a significant scene in the series. Momoa appeared in Scour's album "Doom" on October 30, 2020. Momoa is a hobby musician who plays bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele, and guitar in his spare time, the first of which he took up after listening to Tool's "Sober" by Tool.

During an altercation at the Birds Cafe, a tavern in Hollywood, California, Momoa was slashed across the chest with a cracked beer glass. During reconstructive surgery, he underwent approximately 140 stitches, and the scar on his left eyebrow is evident in his later work. For the assault, the assassination was sentenced to five years in prison.

While living and working in Honolulu, Momoa decided to audition for the television series Baywatch Hawaii, in which he was cast as Jason Ioane (1999–2001).

In addition to his appearances in Johnson Family Vacation (2004) and Stargate: Atlantis (2005–2009), Momoa appeared in four episodes of the comedy-drama television series The Game (2009). In Conan the Barbarian (2011), a reimagining of the 1982 film of the same name and a role made popular by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Momoa learned about Khal Drogo on HBO's Game of Thrones through his audition, in which he performed a Haka, one of many violent Mori dances traditionally used to announce a threat to an enemy, or a welcome to a visitor.

Together with writers Jonathan Hirschbein and Robert Homer Mollohan, Momoa produced and co-wrote Road to Paloma (2014), an American drama thriller film. Parents, Sarah Shahi, Lisa Bonet, Michael Raymond-James, and Wes Studi appear in the film. In April 2014, it premiered at the Sarasota Film Festival. On July 15, 2014, the film in New York City and Los Angeles had a limited theatrical premiere, as well as a VOD version.

In early 2017, he volunteered to play Rico Rodriguez in the official Just Cause film collection.

She appeared in all three seasons of the Canadian historical drama television series Frontier from 1996 to 2018, and she was also a executive producer on the show. Momoa appeared in a halftime commercial for Rocket Mortgage for Super Bowl LIV in February. He appeared in Ozzy Osbourne's "Scary Little Green Men" teaser as a member of Ordinary Man.

In January 2022, it was revealed that Momoa would appear in the tenth Fast & Furious film titled Fast X as the villain, directed by and starring Vin Diesel.

In April 2022, it was revealed that Momoa would be starring in the Minecraft film adaptation, with Jared Hess directing.
