Nana Patekar Life

Nana Patekar (born 1 January 1951) is an Indian film actor and writer, philanthropist and filmmaker, mainly working in Hindi and Marathi cinema.

He is best known for his role in the film Agni Sakshi written by Ranbir Pushp for which he won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.

He also won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor and the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Parinda (1989).

He then won the Filmfare Best Villain Award for his role in Angaar (1992).

In 1995, he won the National Film Award for Best Actor as well as the Filmfare and the Screen awards for Best Actor for his role in Krantiveer (1994).

He also won his second Filmfare Best Villain Award for his role in Apaharan (2005).

In 2017 he won the Filmfare Marathi award for best actor for his performance in Natsamrat.He is the only actor ever to win Filmfare Award for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Villain categories.

He was bestowed with the fourth highest civilian honour of India, the Padma Shri award for his dedication in the field of Films and Arts. After making his acting debut in Bollywood with the 1978 drama Gaman, Patekar acted in a few Marathi films and some Bollywood films.

After these roles, he achieved his breakthrough by starring as a gangster in Parinda (1989), for which he won the National Film Award and the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Later, he acted in and made his directorial debut with Prahaar: The Final Attack (1994).

Patekar subsequently starred in and received critical acclaim for his performance in several commercially successful films of the 1990s, including Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (1992); Angaar (1992), for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Villain; Tirangaa (1993); Krantiveer (1994), for which he won the National Film Award and the Filmfare Award for Best Actor; Agni Sakshi (1996), for which he won his second National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor; and Khamoshi: The Musical (1996).

During the early 2000s, he received praise for his performances in Shakti: The Power (2002) and Apaharan (2005); the latter earned him a second Best Villain award at Filmfare.

Patekar's highest-grossing film releases came when he played a gangster in the comedy Welcome (2007) and its sequel Welcome Back (2015), and a politician in the political thriller Raajneeti (2010).

In 2016, he starred in the Marathi film Natsamrat, which garnered him the Filmfare Marathi Award for Best Actor.

Patekar has appeared in a varietyudders. He has starred in many of his films as a hero, but more so. Gaman (1978), his first film, after which he appeared in several small films in Marathi cinema. In the British television series Lord Mountbatten: The Last Viceroy, Nathuram Godse played the protagonist. He appeared in Aaj Ki Awaz (1984), Ankush (1986), Pratighaat (1987), Mohre (1988), Awam (1988), and Sagar Sangam (1988).

His appearance in Mira Nair's Salaam Bombay was impressive! (1988) was lauded. He was recognized by the mainstream Hindi Cinema for his portrayal of a crime lord in Parinda (1989), for which he received his first National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor and was also praised for Best Supporting Actor. He made a film Prahaar (1991), co-starring Madhuri Dixit, in which he underwent preparation for his role as an Indian Army officer. The Filmfare Best Villain Award went to Angaar (1992) for his role in the production of Angaar (1992). In Tirangaa (1993), he co-starred with industry veteran Raaj Kumar. In Krantiveer (1994), he was named Best Actor and later received the National Film Award for Best Actor and the Star Screen Awards, respectively. In the children's film Abhay, Patekar played a ghost, which received two awards at the 42nd National Film Festival in 1994. In Hum Dono (1995), he costarred with Rishi Kapoor. He was a tragic husband in Agni Sakshi (1996), a deaf father in Manisha Koirala (1996), a brutal but maverick cop in Yeshwant (1997) and a tragic cop in Wajood (1998). He co-starred with Amitabh Bachchan in Kohram (1999), where he appeared as an undercover Indian Army intelligence officer pursuing Bachchan's incognito. Yugpurush (1998) and Hu Tu Tu (1999), his two other notable films of the decade. In the crime drama Tarkieb (2000), he appeared with Aditya Pancholi as the CBI chief. In Paathshaala (2009), he served as a headmaster. He also appeared in Prakash Jha's multi-star political drama film Raajneeti (2010). He appeared in the critically acclaimed Shagird and a Marathi film Deool in 2011. Ram Gopal Verma's The Attacks of 26/11 (2013), based on the 2008 Mumbai Attacks, in which he served as Joint Commissioner of Police Rakesh Maria. He appeared in another Marathi film Dr. Prakash Baba Amte – The Real Hero in 2014. He made two sequels in asparagus, Ab Tak Chhappan 2, the sequel to Welcome Back and Welcome Back. In 2016, he appeared in the film adaptation of the Drama Natsamrat, which was both commercially and financially successful. In the Hindi version of The Jungle Book (2016), he appeared for Shere Khan.

Patekar announced his return to the silver screen in April 2022 with the introduction of The Confessions, a social-thriller drama. Since being in the 2018 film Kaala, it would be his first film after a long absence from the film industry for nearly four years.

Patekar appeared in the films Yeshwant (1997), Wajood (1998), and Aanch (2003).
