Diljit Dosanjh (born 6 January 1984) is an Indian singer, actor, television presenter, and social media celebrity who works in Punjabi and Hindi cinema.

He is regarded as one of India's top musicians.

He has appeared in Punjabi films, with many of them being hit movies, such as Jatt & Juliet, Jatt & Juliet 2, Sardaar Ji, Ambarsaar Ji, and Shadaar Ji 2, which are among Punjabi movies in history.

Ishq Da Uda Ada, his solo track and music video from his 2004 album produced by Finetone Cassettes, was his first recorded mainstream performance.

In 2016, he made his Bollywood debut with Udta Punjab, for which he received the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.

He works with White Hill Productions mainly.

Early life

Diljit Dosanjh was born in 1984 in the village of Dosanjh Kalan in Punjab's south tehsil, Jalandhar district, Punjab, India. Balbir Singh, the son of Punjab Roadways, and his mother, Sukhwinder Kaur, is a homemaker. He has two siblings, one older sister, and one younger brother. He spent his youth in Dosanjh and later moved to Ludhiana, Punjab, where he continued his formal education, including graduation from Shri Guru Harkrishan Public School. While still in school, he began his singing career by performing Kirtan (Sikh religious music) at local gurdwaras. Diljit Singh and his family migrated to Ludhiana and are now living there.

Diljit released his first album, Ishq Da Uda Ada, in 2004, a part of T-Series. Finetone's Rajinder Singh, who helped Dosanjh make his debut in the Punjabi music industry, recommended that he spell his first name as Diljit rather than Daljit. Bablu Mahindra composed the music, while Balvir Boparai wrote the lyrics. Dosanjh performed vocals on all eight tracks, and the album's designers produced a music video for the album's title track. Dil, his second album, was released in 2004, but it was also with Finetone Cassettes.

Dosanjh's fame soared with the unveiling of his third album, Smile, produced by Sukhpal Sukh, which featured songs "Nach Diyan Alran Kuwariyan" and "Paggan Pochviyan Wale." Finetone Cassettes first released the album in 2005. Finetone Cassettes' Ishq Ho Gaya's new album Ishq Ho Gaya was released in 2006. Chocolate, his fifth album, came out in 2008. "Bhagat Singh," "Power of Duets," and "Dance with Me" were among Dosanjh's four different singles released in 2009. Dosanjh's sixth album, The Next Level, would feature nine tracks this year. In 2010, Dosanjh released his next song, Mel Karade Rabba's Original Soundtrack, on his first album. The track was lip-synced by actor Jimmy Shergill and was included in the same name in the opening credits.

Dosanjh's entry into mainstream Punjabi films in 2011 was the start of his career. The Lion of Punjab was his debut film in the lead role when it was released in February 2011. Despite the fact that the film failed at the box office, the film's soundtrack, "Lak 28 Kudi Da," was a big success. According to the BBC, Yo Yo Honey Singh's track reached number one on the Official Asian Download Chart in the United States. Dosanjh continued his collaboration with Honey Singh in 2012 and released "Goliyan," a piece of the album International Villager. In a single named "Pee Pa Pee Pa" which also starred Priya Panchal, he sang on the soundtrack of Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, released in January 2012. He appeared on the soundtrack of the Bollywood film Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya. In the film's music video, he appeared in the film as himself. "Bodyguard," his upcoming single, commemorating the fall of Libyan revolutionary and politician Muammar Gaddafi, where Dosanjh performed about his life, capture and death. JSL Singh composed his second single "Miss Lonely." He released his first religious album, Sikh, in March 2012. The collection contained eight singles and discussed Sikh religion's basic principles and philosophy. Dosanjh appeared in Jatt & Juliet, one of Punjabi film history's biggest hits. Neeru Bajwa appeared in the award-winning film, directed by Anurag Singh, and was shot in Punjab and Mumbai, India, as well as Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. For the film, Dosanjh Diljit received the PTC Punjabi Film Award for Best Actor. Five of the film's soundtrack songs featured him, including vocals. He released Back 2 Basics, his eighth album, in November, with nine tracks and Tru Skool's music. In the film's soundtrack, Dosanjh performed for two songs, which was written by Jaidev Kumar. Dosanjh's music video "Proper Patola" was released on Vevo in August 2013, making it the first Punjabi song to be featured on Vevo. Within a fortnight of its launch, the single, composed by Badshah, received over a million views on YouTube. "I extend my thanks to those who have enjoyed watching the film," Dosanjh said. I'm thrilled to live up to everyone's hopes and with their faith in me." Diljit shot for his next Punjabi film Disco Singh, which was released on April 11, 2014. Surveen Chawla appears in the film, which was also written and directed by Anurag Singh, and it was shot in Delhi NCR. He appeared in the film Punjab 1984, which is set against the 1984-86 Punjab rebellion. Anurag Singh directed the film, which was released on June 27th. In Punjabi, the film received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film. Diljit was the first south Asian artist to visit Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram headquarters on the same day. Dosanjh appeared in Udta Punjab, his first Hindi film. The film was a commercial success with a worldwide audience of 996.7 million. The film, directed by Abhishek Chaubey, explores heroin use in Punjab, India's Punjab. Udta Punjab's co-starring Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt, the film caused controversies when the Central Board of Film Certification found that the film depicted Punjab in a pessimistic light and demanded extensive censorship ahead of its theatrical premiere. With a one-scene cut, the Bombay High Court approved the film for display. For the film, Dosanjh performed the song "Ik Kudi." Dosanjh has completed work on his second Bollywood film Phillauri, alongside Anushka Sharma and Suraj Sharma, as of September 2016. On March 23, 2017, the film was released. Its box-office generated over $5 million. Sajjan Singh Rangroot, a film based on World War II, was released in 2018 in which Dosanjh played the titular role. He is the first turbaned Sikh to be honoured with a wax statue at Madame Tussauds. He appeared in Good Newwz in 2019, alongside Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, and Kiara Advani.

He appeared in Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari alongside Manoj Bajpayee and Fatima Sana Shaikh in 2020. On November 13, 2020, the film was released theatrically. "Paigambar" was a spiritual song performed by Dosanjh in the same year.

Following the debut of his 11th album G.O.T., Dosanjh entered Billboard's Social 50 chart in 2020. The album climbed to the top of Billboard's Top Triller Global chart later this year. In addition, the album debuted in the top 20 in the Canadian Albums Chart.

Dosanjh's twelfth album "Moonchild Era" was released in 2021, and it was written by Raj Ranjodh and Arjan Dhillon. On Billboard's Billboard Canadian Albums Chart, his album debuted at #32, making him the first Indian artist to have his three albums on Billboard Charts. In 2021, he made it to the Sikh 100 list.

Sonam Bajwa, Shehnaaz Gill, Shinda Grewal appeared in his debut film as producer Honsla Rakh in 2021. On its first day, the film earned 5.05 crore, making it the highest grossing punjabi film on opening day. In March 2022, he signed with Warner Music.
