Early life and education
Antonio Quiava Valentin Harper was born in Santa Clara, California, to Trinidad Valentin, who is of Filipina and Chinese origins, and African-American Johnny Harper. She grew up in Sacramento, California, attending Merrill F. West High School in Tracy and graduating from Montell Trail High School in Elk Grove. At age 13, she began writing music. She studied at San Diego State University, where she concentrated in communications and marketing before transferring to University of Southern California, where she completed her degree and received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in communications. She began to concentrate on her rap career after graduating.
Personal life
In September 2018, Saweetie began dating American rapper Quavo of Migos. They were first seen together during New York Fashion Week. Saweetie and Quavo are no longer together on March 19, 2021, according to Saweetie on social media. Quavo had been unfaithful, and she wrote, "Presents don't band aid scars, and the passion isn't genuine if the relationship is given to other women." Career
Saweetie began posting short raps on her Instagram account in 2012. She appeared on one video rapping over the beat from American rapper Khia's "My Neck, My Back (Lick It)," which later became "Icy Grl." The album was released on SoundCloud in the summer of 2017 and attracted Max Gousse, a well-known producer and A&R executive who later became her boss. The video went viral on YouTube, gaining 100 million views as of June 2020.
Saweetie released "High Maintenance" a freestyle rap with a short clip of her singing a verse to the song while chilling in her kitchen that same month. It also went viral on Instagram and Twitter. She released a video for her song "Focus" in October 2017, which mimics DRAM's "Gilligan."
