Early life and education

Antonio Quiava Valentin Harper was born in Santa Clara, California, to Trinidad Valentin, who is of Filipina and Chinese origins, and African-American Johnny Harper. She grew up in Sacramento, California, attending Merrill F. West High School in Tracy and graduating from Montell Trail High School in Elk Grove. At age 13, she began writing music. She studied at San Diego State University, where she concentrated in communications and marketing before transferring to University of Southern California, where she completed her degree and received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in communications. She began to concentrate on her rap career after graduating.

Personal life

In September 2018, Saweetie began dating American rapper Quavo of Migos. They were first seen together during New York Fashion Week. Saweetie and Quavo are no longer together on March 19, 2021, according to Saweetie on social media. Quavo had been unfaithful, and she wrote, "Presents don't band aid scars, and the passion isn't genuine if the relationship is given to other women." A video recording of the pair in a physical altercation that allegedly took place in 2020 appeared in late March 2021.

Saweetie is a first cousin who was once removed from actress Gabrielle Union. Willie Harper, her grandfather, played football for the San Francisco 49ers.

Saweetie began posting short raps on her Instagram account in 2012. She appeared on one video rapping over the beat from American rapper Khia's "My Neck, My Back (Lick It)," which later became "Icy Grl." The album was released on SoundCloud in the summer of 2017 and attracted Max Gousse, a well-known producer and A&R executive who later became her boss. The video went viral on YouTube, gaining 100 million views as of June 2020.

Saweetie released "High Maintenance" a freestyle rap with a short clip of her singing a verse to the song while chilling in her kitchen that same month. It also went viral on Instagram and Twitter. She released a video for her song "Focus" in October 2017, which mimics DRAM's "Gilligan."

Saweetie was named Tidal's Best New Artist of the Week and one of Pigeons & Planees' Best New Artists of the Month in January 2018. She appeared in an ad for Rihanna's cosmetic firm, Fenty Beauty, during Super Bowl LII in February 2018. Artistry Worldwide, Warner Bros. Records (since May 2019 Warner Records) and Gousse's record label, Artistry Worldwide, were among her signings that month.

Saweetie's own record label, Icy Records, was established in February 2018.

On March 16, 2018, Saweetie debuted her first EP, High Maintenance. It has nine tracks and was produced by CashMoneyAP, Nyrell, Saweetie's cousin, Zaytoven. Saweetie co-founded PrettyLittleThing in September 2019 to debut PrettyLittleThing x Saweetie, a 59-piece clothing line. The capsule's theme, she said, was "a boujie wealthy girl enjoying the finer things in life." "I want to tell the boys and girls that if you hustle hard, your hours will pay off." During New York Fashion Week, it debuted. Saweetie appeared on VH1's Nick Cannon Presents: Wild 'N Out on January 28, 2020, as a guest performer on "My Type."

Jhené Aiko, the second single from Pretty Bitch Music, performed "Back to the Streets" on October 23, 2020. "Best Friend," Doja Cat's third single, was released on January 7, 2021. In 2022, the complete album is set to be released.

Saweetie was included in Forbes' 30 Under 30 Music list and Variety's Impact list in 2020. In March 2020, she began her first beauty collaboration by becoming the face of KISS Colors' edge fixer glue in the Edge Fixer Glued x Saweetie series. Icy University, the University's own virtual education media network, launched in October 2020.

Saweetie also launched a jewelry line, a capsule clothing collection (collaborating with retailer PrettyLittleThing), and a cobranded makeup collection with cosmetics retailer Morphe as of March 2021. Her other product collaborations include her Essenchills collection from Sinful Colors in February 2021 and the Saweetie Meal at McDonald's in August 2021. Saweetie continued her appearances by hosting Culture Con 2021 for designers of color, as the character Indigo in 3 episodes of Grown-ish.

Saweetie released the extended play Pretty Summer Playlist: Season 1 in April 2021. The singles "Risky" featuring Drakeo the King, and Loui's "Talkin Bout" starring Saweetie were able to promote it. Saweetie collaborated with British girl group Little Mix to be featured on the remix version of its song "Confetti" on the same day as a film was released the same day.
