Beyoncé launched 4 (2011), inspired by 1970s funk, 1980s pop, and 1990s soul after being split from her manager and father Mathew Knowles in 2010.

Beyoncé's albums, Beyoncé (2013) and Lemonade (2016), received acclaim, and the latter became the world's best-selling album of 2016.

Personal life

Beyoncé began a friendship with Jay-Z after collaborating on "'03 Bonnie & Clyde," his seventh album The Gift & The Curse (2002). In the song's music video, Beyoncé appeared as Jay-Z's girlfriend, fueling rumors about their marriage. Beyoncé and Jay-Z married without media on April 4, 2008. The couple had sold a total of 300 million records together as of April 2014. They are well-known for their private lives, but they have appeared to have become more relaxed since 2013. Both have expressed disappointment that arose in their marriage after Jay-Z's affair.

Beyoncé miscarried around 2010 or 2011, describing it as "the saddest thing" she had ever lived. To cope with the loss, she returned to the studio and wrote poetry. Beyoncé and Jay-Z shot the album cover in Paris in April 2011, and she unexpectedly became pregnant in Paris. The couple attended the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards in August, where Beyoncé performed "Love on Top" and ended the performance by announcing she was pregnant. Her appearance on Sunday helped MTV's MTV Video Music Awards become the most watched show in MTV history, attracting 8,868 tweets per second and "Beyonce pregnant" was the most Googled word in the week of August 29, 2011. Beyoncé gave birth to Blue Ivy, a daughter born in New York City, on January 7, 2012.

Following the debut of Lemonade's single "Sorry" in 2016, rumors of a alleged affair with a mistress referred to as "Becky" emerged. A report by Jon Pareles in The New York Times highlighted that many of the allegations were "aimed specifically and immediately" at him. "Suck on my balls, I've had enough" was a "unmistakable hint" that the lyrics revolve around Jay-Z, according to Rob Sheffield of Rolling Stone magazine.

On February 1, 2017, she revealed on Instagram that she was expecting twins. In fewer than 6.3 million views in less than eight hours, beating the world record for the most popular picture on the website at the time. Beyoncé posted the first photo of herself and the twins on Instagram on July 13, 2017, a month before the birth date was announced on Instagram, behind her own pregnancy announcement. The twins, as well as a daughter named Rumi, and a boy named Sir, were born at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in California. In the September 2018 issue of Vogue, she had complete control of the story, photographer Tyler Mitchell shot at Hammerwood Park about her pregnancy and its aftermath.

At President Barack Obama's 2009 presidential inauguration, Beyoncé performed "America the Beautiful" as well as "At Last" during the first inaugural dance at the Neighborhood Ball two days later. President Obama's 2012 presidential campaign, which raised $4 million, was attended by the couple at Jay-Z's 40/40 Club in Manhattan. In the 2012 presidential race, the singer voted for President Obama. At his second inauguration in January 2013, she performed the American national anthem "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Beyoncé attended a major celebrity fundraiser for 2016 presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, according to the Washington Post in May 2015. In a concert held the weekend before Election Day next year, she also headlined for Clinton. Beyoncé and her entourage of backup dancers wore pantsuits in this performance, a nod to Clinton's frequent dress-of-choice. The backup dancers wore "I'm with her" tee shirts, Clinton's campaign slogan. "I want my daughter to grow up seeing a woman lead our country and knowing that her options are endless," Beyoncé said in a brief address at this performance. During the 2018 United States Senate election in Texas, Beto O'Rourke's campaign was supported by her.

Beyoncé said in a Vogue interview in 2013 that she considers herself to be "a modern-day feminist." She would later identify herself more prominently with the movement, performing "We should all be feminists," a message delivered by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie during her song "Flawless" released later this year. "Feminist" was the narrator's title that she read live on the MTV Video Awards this year. Her self-identification sparked a lot of debate and speculation over whether her feminist convictions are in syncation with older, more established feminist ideals. Beyoncé's use of the word feminist referred to her as 'feminist lite,' Annie Lennox, a well-known artist and feminist activist, referred to Beyoncé's use of the word feminist as 'feminist lite.' Bell hooks condemned Beyoncé, calling her a "terrorist" toward feminism, thereby negatively impacting her audience of young girls. "Her kind of feminism is not mine," Adichie said, "because it is the kind of feminism that simultaneously gives a lot of space to the need of men." Adichie explores what 'feminist lite' means to her, implying that "more troubling is the belief that men are naturally superior, but that we should treat women with respect" and that "we judge strong women more harshly than we judge wealthy men." And Feminism Lite enables this." Beyoncé expressed her doubts by using the word feminist on her website in an attempt to "give clarity to the true meaning" behind it. "It's really straightforward," she says of finding out what being a feminist is. It's someone who believes in equal rights for both men and women." She advocated for equal opportunities for young boys and girls, men and women, and that the problem must be addressed in order to make reforms.

She has also contributed to the Ban Bossy campaign, which promotes female leadership by TV and social media. Beyoncé's public image as a feminist, the sexualized essence of her performances, and the fact that she defended her marriage were questionable.

Following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, Beyoncé and a group of 950 U.S. mayors and others joined up and produced a video campaign for "Demand A Plan," a bipartisan movement launched by a coalition of 950 American mayors and others aimed at persuading the federal government to rethinking its gun control laws. After the Supreme Court debate on California's Protest 8, Beyoncé publicly supported same-sex marriage on March 26, 2013. In a tweet during her appearance in Raleigh as part of the Formation World Tour in 2016, she protested North Carolina's Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act, which was later repealed) that discriminated against the LGBT people in public places. She has also condemned police brutality against black Americans. In reaction to George Zimmerman's cleared of the murder of Trayvon Martin, she and Jay-Z attended a rally in 2013. The mothers of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, and Eric Garner were featured in "Freedom"'s video. Beyoncé discussed the uproar surrounding her album "Formation" in a 2016 interview with Elle, which was widely reported to be suspicious of the police. "I am against police brutality and injustice," she said. Those are two distinct things. If commemorating my roots and culture during Black History Month was uncomfortable, those feelings were long before a video and long before mine."

Beyoncé's presidential administration issued a statement in February 2017 protesting the removal of guarantees for transgender students in public schools. Beyoncé expressed her support for transgender people on her Facebook page and joined a list of celebrities who have spoken out against Trump's nomination on his Facebook page.

Beyoncé awarded Colin Kaepernick with the 2017 Sports Illustrated Muhammad Ali Legacy Award, stating, "Thank you for your selfless spirit and sacrifice," and that "Colin took action with no fear of consequence." We're still waiting for the world to catch up." Muhammad Ali was severely criticized in his career for defying the status quo of US civil rights in the aftermath of the Vietnam War by refusing to serve in the military. Kaepernick had already lost one year of work as a result of his taking a more quieter and court stand "for those who are oppressed."

Forbes magazine began covering Beyoncé's earnings in 2008, estimating that the $80 million she earned between June 2007 and June 2008 was the world's highest-paid music celebrity at the time, above Madonna and Celine Dion. In 2009, it was fourth on the Celebrity 100 list and ninth on the "Most Powerful Women in the World" list, placing her fourth on the list and ninth on the "Most Influential Women in the World" list. Following her earnings of $35 million in the last year for her clothing collection and endorsement deals, the magazine placed her eighth on the "Best-Paid Celebrities Under 30" list for the seventh year. Beyoncé was ranked 16 on the Celebrity 100 list in 2012, despite receiving $40 million in the last year for her album 4, clothing line, and endorsement deals. Beyoncé and Jay-Z ranked first on the "World's Best Paid Celebrity Couples" list this year for collectively earning $78 million. The pair made it to Guinness World Records as the "most-earning power couple" for collectively earning $122 million in 2009. Beyoncé made an average of $70 million a year from 2009 to 2011, and 2012 took home $40 million. Beyoncé's endorsements of Pepsi and H&M made her and Jay-Z the first billion dollar couple in the music industry in 2013. Beyoncé was ranked as the fourth most influential celebrity in the Forbes list this year.

Beyoncé would become the highest-paid Black musician in history by the end of 2014, according to MTV; this was the case in April 2014. Beyoncé debuted on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list in June 2014, earning $115 million from June 2013 to June 2014. This was the first time she had ranked on the Celebrity 100 list, as well as being her highest annual income to date. Beyoncé ranked 34 on the Celebrity 100 list in 2016, earning $54 million. With combined income of $107.5 million, she and Jay-Z ranked as the highest paid celebrity couple on record, with joint earnings of $107.5 million. Forbes estimated her net worth to be $355 million in 2018, and in June of the same year, Forbes named her as the 35th highest-earning celebrity with annual income of $60 million. Beyoncé and Madonna were the only female artists to make more than $100 million in a single year twice. Beyoncé and Jay-Z have a total net worth of $1.16 billion as a couple. Beyoncé was the highest paid musician of 2016, according to Billboard, with a total of $62.1 million.

Beyoncé Career

Life and career

Beyonce Giselle Knowles was born in Houston, Texas, on September 4, 1981, to Celestine "Tina" Knowles, a hairdresser and salon owner, and Mathew Knowles, a Xerox sales manager; Tina is a Creole; Mathew is African American. Solange Knowles, Beyoncé's younger sister, is also a performer and a former backup dancer for Destiny's Child. Solange and Beyoncé are the first sisters to have both been on number one charts.

Beyoncé's maternal grandparents, Lumas Beyonce and Agnez Dereon (daughter of Odilia Broussard and Eugene DeRouen), were French-speaking Louisiana Creoles with roots in New Iberia. Beyoncé is a Creole and her grandparents passed her on to her. Beyoncé's mother, Beyoncé, is a descendant of many French aristocrats, including the Viscounts de Béarn in the 9th century and the Viscounts de Belzunce. She is also a descendant of Jean-Vincent d'Abbadie de Saint-Castin, a French military officer who died in North America who became an Abenaki chief, and Acadian militia officer Joseph Broussard, who was exiled to French Louisiana following the Acadians' removal. Marie-Françoise Trahan, her fourth great-grandmother, was born in Bangor, France's Belle Île, in 1774. After the Acadian expulsion, Trahan was a daughter of Acadians who had fled to Belle Île. The Estates of Brittany had divided the lands of Belle Île to divide them among 78 other Acadian families and the newly settled residents. The Trahan family lived on Belle Île for more than ten years before immigrating to Louisiana, where she married a Broussard descendant. Beyoncé investigated her ancestry and discovered that she descended from a slave owner who sold his slave. Her mother is also of distant Jewish, Spanish, Chinese, and Indonesian ancestry.

Beyoncé was raised Catholic and attended St. Mary's Montessori School in Houston, where she took part in dance lessons. Darlette Johnson, a dance instructor, began humming a song and finished it, and she was able to reach the high notes. Beyoncé's interest in music and performing continued after winning a school talent show at the age of seven, singing John Lennon's "Imagine" to beat 15/16-year-olds. Beyoncé was enrolled in Parker Elementary School, a music magnet school in Houston, where she would perform with the school's choir in the fall of 1990. She attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, as well as Alief Elsik High School. Beyoncé was also a member of the choir at St. John's United Methodist Church for two years as a soloist.

When Beyoncé was eight, she met LaTavia Roberson at an audition for an all-girl entertainment company. They were enrolled in a Girls Tyme group, three other girls, and rapped and danced on Houston's talent show circuit. After seeing the group, R&B producer Arne Frager took them to his Northern California studio and placed them in Star Search, the country's biggest talent competition at the time. Girl's Tyme failed to win, and Beyoncé later said the song was not good. Beyoncé's father resigned from his job to lead the company in 1995. Beyoncé's family's income was cut by half, and her parents were forced to sell their house and cars and move to separate apartments because of the relocation. Mathew reduced the original line-up to four, and the group continued to be seen as an opening act for other established R&B girl groups. The girls auditioned before record labels and were eventually signed to Elektra Records, then moved to Atlanta Records for a short time, but the firm was ultimately cut from the program. Beyoncé's parents separated, adding to the strain on the family. The Grass Roots Entertainment of Dwayne Wiggins Entertainment bought the company on October 5, 1995. The Knowles family reunited in 1996, and Columbia Records signed the girls' debut album under an agreement with Sony Music, and just after that, they signed a deal with Columbia Records.

Destiny's Child was founded in 1996, based on a passage in the Book of Isaiah. Destiny's Child, a subsidiary of Destiny's Child, released "Killing Time" on the soundtrack to the 1997 film Men in Black. "No, No, No" became the group's debut single and first major hit in November. They released their self-titled debut album in February 1998, establishing the group as a viable act in the music market, with moderate sales and winning the group three Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards for Best R&B/Soul Album of the Year, Best R&B/Soul or Rap New Artist, and Best R&B/Soul Single for "No, No. No." On the Wall in 1999, the band released their Multi-Platinum second album The Writing's. The album features some of the company's most well-known songs, such as "Bills, Bills, and Bills," the group's first number-one single "Jumpin' Jumpin" and "Say My Name," which became the group's first number one hit and will continue to be one of their signature songs. At the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards, "Say My Name" received the Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Best R&B Song. More than 8 million copies have been sold around the world. During this period, Beyoncé recorded a duet with Marc Nelson, an original member of Boyz II Men, on the album "After All Is Said and Done" for the soundtrack to the 1999 film "The Best Man."

LeToya Luckett and Roberson became dissatisfied with Mathew's leadership, and they were eventually replaced by Farrah Franklin and Michelle Williams. Beyoncé suffered depression after being publicly criticized by the media, commentators, and blogs for its cause. At this point, her long-serving boyfriend left her at this point. The depression lasted for a few years, during which she would often lay herself in her bedroom for days and refused to eat anything. Beyoncé admitted that she had trouble revealing her depression because Destiny's Child had just won their first Grammy Award, and she feared no one would pay attention to her. Beyoncé would later discuss her mother as the person who aided her in battling it. Franklin was then dismissed, leaving Beyoncé, Rowland, and Williams alone.

"Independence Part I," the remaining band members recorded on the soundtrack to Charlie's Angels' 2000 film. It was their highest-charging single in North America, leading the US in the top charting single. The Billboard Hot 100 chart has been on display for ten weeks in a row. Beyoncé landed a major role in the MTV made-for-television film Carmen: A Hip Hopera, starring American actor Mekhi Phifer, in early 2001, when Destiny's Child was recording their third album. The film, which is set in Philadelphia, is a modern interpretation of French composer Georges Bizet's 19th-century opera Carmen. Luckett and Roberson brought a lawsuit arguing that the songs were targeted at them when they were first released in May 2001. The album debuted at number one on the United States' charts, ranked first. Billboard 200, with first-week copies of 663,000 copies sold, was the first week. Other number-one hits, "Bootylicious" and "Survivor," were among the album's titles, one of which earned the company the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. The group declared a break in October 2001 after releasing their holiday album 8 Days of Christmas, the group's decision has been to explore solo careers.

Beyoncé made her theatrical debut in July 2002, starring Foxxy Cleopatra and Mike Myers in the comedy film Austin Powers in Goldmember, which earned the first weekend atop the US box office and grossing $73 million. Beyoncé starred opposite Cuba Gooding, Jr. in the musical comedy The Fighting Temptations as Lilly, a single mother with whom Gooding's character falls in love in 2003. Critics gave the film mixed feedback, but Beyoncé released "Fighting Temptation" as the lead single from the film's soundtrack album, with Missy Elliott, MC Lyte, and Free, which was also used to advertise the film. "Summertime," Beyoncé's second installment of the soundtrack, did well on the US charts.

Beyoncé's debut solo album was a tribute to Jay-Z's "03 Bonnie & Clyde," which debuted in October 2002 and topped the US charts at number one. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
