After his appearance on Brookside, he appeared in a version of Merseybeat in which he played criminal Leon Marsh. With his "singing cactus," John Reilly, a BBC series called "The Singing Cactus," mournes after his mother's death and flees into his own world.
Quinn rose to fame when he auditioned for the third series of The X Factor, singing a medley of "Ain't That a Kick in the Head." "The Devil in Disguise" is the plot in "Devil in Disguise"! He was a performing arts student at the Merseyside Dance and Drama College, where he had previously received some vocal training before appearing on the program. He received three yeses from the judges and went on to bootcamp. Quinn was placed in the 16-24s category, with Simon Cowell as his mentor. Nevertheless, when performing in front of Cowell and Sinitta, he partially stumbled and lost the words to Lionel Richie's "Easy." He wasn't expected to advance to judges' houses initially, but a change in the series's structure allowed him to continue with the tournament. He performed "Smile" for his judges' appearances, and then was given a spot in one of the four acts on the live shows.
Many of Quinn's song picks and performances were old-fashioned and swing-based during live shows. In the early stages of the competition, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne chastised him for their ability as a pure singer rather than a'song-and-dance' man. However, in later years, he expanded the repertoire of his shows more into singing pop songs, to which the judges were pleasantly satisfied with Quinn's ability. In week five, he was placed in the bottom two against Nikitta Angus but he survived elimination. He managed to advance through the competition up to week 10, losing to eventual winner Leona Lewis.
