Grimes Life

Claire Elise Boucher (c) (born March 17, 1988), better known as Grimes, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, guitarist, record producer, and visual artist.

She performs elements of many styles and genres, including dream pop, R&B, experimental, and hip hop. Born and raised in Vancouver, Grimes began releasing music in the late 1990s, Geidi Primes and Halfaxa on Arbutus Records, in 2010.

With the introduction of her third studio album Visions in 2012, she gained notoriety.

Its singles "Genesis" and "Oblivion" were released, and the Juno Award for Electronic Album of the Year was given to it.

Art Angels (2015), her fourth studio album, received critical acclaim, and several publications ranked it as the year's best album of the year.

Miss Anthropocene, her fifth studio album, is currently working on her fifth studio album, and she will be announced on February 21, 2020.

Early life

Boucher was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, on March 17, 1988. She is of French (including Québécois), Italian, Ukrainian, and Métis descent. She was raised Roman Catholic and attended Catholic school. Sandy Garossino, her mother, is a former Crown prosecutor and arts patron; Maurice Boucher, a former banker, works "in the corporate side of biotech." Boucher graduated from Lord Byng Secondary School in 2006 and moved from Vancouver to McGill University, focusing on neuroscience and Russian language. However, she left the university in early 2011 before completing her degree.

Personal life

Boucher has a step-brother who raps under the name Jay Worthy; the two worked together on the single "Christmas Song," which appeared on her Visions album's Rough Trade bonus disc. Mac Boucher, one of her brothers, was involved in the production of some of her music videos, including "Violence," "Realiti," "Live in the Vivid Dream," "Kill V. Maim," "We Appreciate Power" and "We Appreciate Power."

Boucher and a companion attempted to sail down the Mississippi River from Minneapolis in 2009. The houseboat was impounded by the city of Minneapolis after several mishaps, including engine failures and encounters with law enforcement. Boucher has claimed that parts of the tale were exaggerated in the newspapers that covered it at the time. T-Bone Burnett has made the adventure into an animated video.

Boucher has been open about her drug use in the past, claiming that she "blacked out the windows and produced a ton of amphetamine and stayed up for three weeks and didn't eat anything" when she first saw Visions in 2012.

Boucher wrote a blog post in 2014 announcing her aversion to hard drugs and denying herself from her previous endorsement, saying she does not want "[hard drug use] to be part of [her] story. "Losing people to opioids and alcohol is the worst because they destroy any good memories of them before requiring you to deal with the bare space they left behind." I want people to know that I dislike hard drugs. "All they've ever done is murder my family members and make me unproductive."

Boucher, a singer, is known for her lisp; she has stated that she "likes it" and has no intention to go to speech therapy and has no desire to try speech therapy.

In her personal life, she has been referred to as c (the symbol for speed) in her personal life.

Grimes revealed on Twitter that she planned to get body changes such as "elf ear mods" and "vampire teeth caps" in August 2022. She expressed reservations about ear cartilage and the surgery as being risky to her musical career.

Boucher was involved with Devon Welsh from 2007 to 2010, then became the lead vocalist of Majical Cloudz. While attending McGill University in 2007, the two met for the first time in 2007. Boucher worked with electronic musician Jaime Brooks, who helped her with the Visions Tour as Elite Gymnastics from 2012 to 2018.

Boucher began a relationship with business magnate Elon Musk in 2018. They met after finding on Twitter that they shared the same word on Rococo and the thought experiment Roko's basilisk. On May 4, 2020, she gave birth to their son, who they referred to as "Ex Ash A Twelve" or "Ex Ay Eye." According to reports, the name in California, where the child was born, was in breach of the naming act, and was later changed to "X A-Xii." The letter "X" is the child's first name, according to a snapshot of the birth certificate, and "AE A-XII" is the middle name. Musk's seventh child. Go Won of the South Korean girl group Loona, with whom she collaborated in 2018, is her son's godmother, according to Grimes, who shared the message on Instagram. In September 2021, the couple were "semi-separated."

Grimes reflected on her friendship with Musk in January 2022: "I would probably think of him as my boyfriend, but we're very flexible." Exa Dark Sider Musk, the girl's nicknamed Y, was born in December 2021 via survivate, according to her. Grimes tweeted in March 2022 that she and Musk had broken up again after publication (which had been postponed two months before its publication) but that "he's my best friend and the love of my life."

Grimes dated activist and whistleblower Chelsea Manning from March to July 2022.

Grimes Career

Career

Boucher began writing under the name Grimes in 2007, according to the timestamps on her original Myspace page. Her artist name was chosen because MySpace permitted artists to list three musical genres at a time. Since she had no idea what the grime music style was, she wrote "grime" for the three children. Grimes is a self-taught musician and visual artist.

Grimes' debut album, Geidi Primes, a concept album influenced by the Dune series, was released in January 2010, followed by her second album, Halfaxa, in October of the same year. She began to tour her music and tour outside of Montreal following Halfaxa's debut. Grimes released five songs on her side of the split 12" in 2011 with d'Eon, Darkbloom (through both Arbutus and Hippos in Tanks). Grimes opened for Lykke Li on her North American Tour in May 2011, and the following August, her debut album was re-released on No Pain in Pop Records in CD and vinyl format for the first time. In 2011, she co-produced with DJ/producer Blood Diamonds.

Grimes signed with record label 4AD in January 2012 after widespread support to her first two albums and Darkbloom contribution. Visions, her third studio album, was released in Canada on January 31, 2012, and at other dates in March 2012. Grimes' breakout album appeared on a number of magazine's year-end lists, and it's considered Grimes' biggest hit. In 2013, NME ranked it on their 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. Visions received the Electronic Album of the Year Award, and Grimes was nominated for the Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the Junos. At the 2013 Webbys, Grimes also received the Artist of the Year Award.

Emily Kai Bock and Grimes co-directed the album's second single, "Oblivion," which was named the best song of 2012 by Pitchfork and turned into a music video co-directed by Emily Kai Bock and Grimes. On their 200 Best Tracks of the Decade So Far list, Pitchfork ranked "Oblivion" at number one. Grimes explained in interviews following the album's debut that she had been given a tight deadline by which she would have her third album finished before it was complete, resulting in her recording the majority of Visions while confined in her Montreal apartment for three weeks. Notably, this intensive recording session included a period of nine days without sleep or food, as well as blacket out windows, since she could not make music as quickly during the day, and doing "tons of amphetamines" as a result. Grimes appeared on the Visions Tour from 2012 to 2014, supporting artists Born Gold, Myths, Elite Gymnastics, Ami Dang. Grimes collaborated with Cop Car Bonfire's Tim Lafontaine in March 2012 and went under the name Membrain. Sit Back, Rewind, an EP was released by the British Academy. Grimes appeared on Blood Diamonds' track "Phone Sex" in May 2012. Grimes appeared on the Full Flex Express Canadian Railway Tour in July 2012 as a supporting act with Diplo and Skrillex. Grimes made her American television debut on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon in August 2012.

Grimes wrote a letter in April 2013 addressing her experience as a female singer rife with misogyny and regret that her feminist position was often mistook for anti-male. "I don't want to be just like the look of this thing I made," she said when discussing her decision to produce all her studio albums herself.

Grimes retained the services of Jay-Z's administration company, Roc Nation, in December 2013.

Grimes premiered "Go" on June 26, 2014, which was produced by and featuring Blood Diamonds. It was a track that had been written for and rejected by Rihanna and was premiered on Zane Lowe's radio 1 show. On Rolling Stone's Best Songs of 2014 list, it ranked it at number fourteen. Grimes appeared on Bleachers' track "Take Me Away" from their album, Strange Desire, in July 2014. Grimes was included in the music for Haim's My Song 5's remix on August 19, 2014.

Grimes released a self-directed video for a demo version of "Realiti" from an abandoned album on March 8, 2015. It received critical acclaim from music reviewers, who selected it as the best new Grimes song since Visions by Jenn Pelly of Pitchfork. Grimes and Bleachers announced their collaboration "Entropy" for the HBO television show Girls on March 15, 2015. Grimes toured Lana Del Rey for several of her Endless Summer Tour dates in the summer of 2015. Nicole Dollanganger, the headliner of her own Rhinestone Cowboys Tour, appeared in the fall of 2015.

Grimes said that the record was recorded with "real instruments" on her forthcoming fourth album, which was planned for a "surprise" debut in October, a departure from her earlier releases's primarily synth and sampler driven composing. Grimes released "Flesh Without Blood" as the album's lead single, as well as a two-act music video containing both "Flesh Without Blood" and "Life in the Vivid Dream," another song from the forthcoming album, on October 26, 2015. The album, Art Angels, was released in November to critical feedback, earning an 88 (out of 100) rating on Metacritic and the Best New Music designation from Pitchfork. Art Angels was described by Jessica Hopper of Pitchfork as "evidence of Boucher's labour and an articulation of a pop vision that is incontrovertibly hers... a spectacular holiday buffet of tendentious feminist farewell, with second helpings for anonymous commentators and music industry blood suckers."

By NME, Exclaim!, and Stereogum, Art Angels was voted the best album of the year. It peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Top Alternative Album Chart and number 2 on the Billboard Top Independent Album Chart, and number 2 on the Billboard Top Independent Album Chart. In October, Grimes received the Socan Annual Awards and the Bazaar Musician of the Year Award from Harper in 2016.

On the Ac!d Reign Tour, Grimes toured Asia and Europe in the spring of 2016. Hana, a support act, appeared on the Ac!d Reign Tour. Grimes continued touring into the summer of 2016 after appearing at various music festivals around North America and then opening for Florence and the Machine on select dates of the How Beautiful Tour.

Grimes released the music video for "Kill Without Blood" ("Act I" and "Act II") on January 19, 2016, as well as the music video for "California" ("Act IV") on May 9, 2016. To get a less "dissonant" visual/auditory pair, Grimes created a slightly remixed version of "California" for the music video. This alternate version of California has not been released or streamed. Grimes released the song "Medieval Warfare" as part of the summer blockbuster Suicide Squad's soundtrack on August 3, 2016.

Grimes, alongside mate and collaborator Hana Pestle, launched "The Ac!d Reign Chronicles," a lo-fi series of seven music videos starring Grimes ("Butterfly," "Belly of the Beat," "Belly of the Beat," and "Scream") and Hana ("Underwater," "Chimera" and "Avalanche") on October 5, 2016, with all three actors playing in their respective segments. Linda Davis and Alyson Vanish, both of Grimes' backup dancers, appear in additional scenes. During the duo's time in Europe, "The AC!D Reign Chronicles" was shot exclusively on iPhones with no crew, save for Mac Boucher, who assisted with filming. Grimes was a writer for Troye Sivan's song Heaven from the album, Blue Neighbourhood.

Grimes premiered on Tidal on February 2, 2017 with the film "Venus Fly," starring herself and Janelle Monáe. On February 9, 2017, the video was released on YouTube. "Well, no music any time soon after all," Grimes posted on Instagram in February 2018. It was later revealed that this was due to a match with her brand, 4AD. She later revealed on Instagram that she would eventually be releasing two albums and that "they will be separated by a period of time," with the first being released with 4AD and the second with an undisclosed name. Grimes claimed that this first album would be "fully collaborative and [characterized by] the most brilliant light," with the second focusing on "pure darkness and chaos" in a series.
