Early life and career

She also started making a line of makeup items. Ouellet began her modeling career as a beauty pageant, winning Miss Hawaiian Tropic Canada 2003 and placing second in the International Finals of Miss Hawaiian Tropic 2004. She appeared on Playboy's 2007 Girls of Canada calendar.

Professional wrestling career

Ouellet tried to join World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)'s Diva Search in mid-2006. She made the final cut and was one of the top eight contestants, but she was the second person to be disqualified on July 24. Despite her suspension, she and Brooke Adams were able to attend workouts and the training center at WWE's growing territory, Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW). Later, Ouellet expressed a heightened sense of elicitation as it was her "aim to become a WWE Diva."

On August 24, 2007, Ouellet became a WWE developmental trainee and was sent to OVW for preparation. In December 2006, she made her in-ring debut at an OVW live event. She began competing in dark matches in March 2007, well before the OVW television tapings. Ouellet first started directing Sylvain Grenier in mid-2007. Ouellet was moved to the new developmental facility in mid-2007, and she and Lacey Von Erich made their FCW debut on September 25 as the valet of Ryan O'Reilly and Lacey Von Erich. Ouellet then began competing in singles and tag teams, before being coached Ted DiBiase Jr. in December 2007 and he was at ringside when he claimed the FCW Southern Heavyweight Championship.

Ouellet, known as simply Maryse, was on the TitanTron's September 22, 2006, episode of SmackDown! On the CW Network, there are currently no shows. Maryse made her first official television appearance on Raw to premiere American rapper Timbaland's latest music video for the single "Throw It on Me," in which she had appeared on Raw to present American rapper Timbaland's latest album "Throw It on Me" on May 21, 2007.

By the time she first appeared on SmackDown at the start of 2008, she had adopted a snobby attitude and created a villainous appearance. On a SmackDown episode in 2008, Maryse competed in a swimsuit competition against Victoria, Michelle McCool, Cherry, and Eve Torres, resulting in a brawl between Maryse and Torres. She was the first girl to be barred from another swimsuit tournament this week. Maryse competed in a "Wet and Wild" match against Victoria on March 28, partnering with Victoria against Cherry and McCool in a losing effort. The tag team Deuce 'n Domino's Domino fired Cherry, who had been their boss, and swapped her with Maryse on WWE's website, and posted a "SmackDown after the bell" video. Cherry was then insulted, but Cherry was only slapped before she was dismissed. Maryse made her in-ring debut in a loss to Cherry on May 16 but she stunned Cherry later in a rematch the following week. Vickie Guerrero, the WWE Divas Championship, was revealed on June 6 on SmackDown!, and the Divas took home the title at The Great American Bash, which was crowned by Natalya. She competed in another Golden Dreams match against Natalya for the championship on July 4, 2008, but she was unable to win. For several weeks, Maryse competed in six-person tag team matches against Victoria and Natalya against Cherry, Michelle McCool, and Maria. She had a minor broken nose after receiving a bulldog from Maria in August 2008.

In September 2008, Maryse formed a rivalry with Michelle McCool, vying for the WWE Divas Championship at Unfortun, and then lost on both directions. Maryse defeated McCool in a non-title match on ECW's September 23 episode. Maryse returned to Survivor Series pay-per-view festival in November, defeating Kelly Kelly, Mickie James, and Candice Michelle; Maryse was the sole survivor of her team, but Beth Phoenix was eventually dismissed by Beth Phoenix. Maria was pinned by Maryse on December 19 to be the top one candidate for Michelle McCool's Divas Championship. Maryse won her first Divas Championship the following week, with Maria as the special guest referee. Maryse dislocated her knee in a tag team match against The Bella Twins on December 28, North Carolina, (Nikki and Brie). Later, it was revealed that the injury was not significant and therefore that only a few weeks of action was required. Maryse returned and sat at ringside defending a Divas' tag team match during a January 23, 2009 episode. Michelle McCool and Michelle McCool played in a victory over Maria and Eve Torres, where she pinned Torres.

Maryse made her first appearance on Raw on March 2 as a commentator for a match involving the WWE Women's Champion Melina, with Maryse attacking her after the match. In a loss to Santina Marella, Mickie James, Brie Bella, and Kelly Kelly, she made her first appearance as part of the brand on April 27th, working with Beth Phoenix, Rosa Mendes, and Jillian Hall. Maryse then began feuding with Mickie James after she cost James a number one contender's crown by spraying hairspray in her eyes. Maryse lost a championship match against Kelly by disqualification, implying that the tournament did not change hands, and the championship did not change hands, and the championship did not change hands again until two weeks later on June 8. Despite being only the second Divas champion, her reign of 216 days was the longest in the sport's history for nearly five years until AJ Lee ended her reign in January 2014.

Maryse underwent correct knee surgery after losing the championship. On the November 23 episode of Raw, disguised as The Gobbledy Gooker, she appeared as the guest timekeeper for a Thanksgiving-themed 6-Divas tag team match. She introduced herself after the match by criticizing Divas Champion Melina. Maryse returned to action in a tag team match against Melina and Gail Kim, where Maryse defeated Melina after the team's match. Maryse defeated Gail Kim by dirty tactics on December 7; subsequently, Maryse proceeded to accuse Kelly Kelly, who was working as a Ring announcer, that she was the next Divas Champion, but Melina refused to pursue her.

Due to Melina's illness, a tournament was held in early 2010 for the newly vacated WWE Divas Championship. Maryse entered the tournament and advanced to the finals after defeating Brie Bella and Eve Torres in the first round and semi-finals, respectively. The tournament's finals were originally scheduled for Elimination Chamber on February 21; instead, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero rescheduled the match against LayCool (Michelle McCool and Layla), which was won by LayCool due to Maryse's abandonment of Kim during the match. Maryse won the championship on Raw, the first Diva to win twice, following Kim in the finals.
