Heath Slater Career

Professional wrestling career

Miller was educated by Curtis Hughes at the World Wrestling Alliance's wrestling academy (WWA4). He made his debut in 2004 in WWA4 and other Georgia-based wrestling tournaments.

Miller signed a developmental deal with WWE in December 2006 and was assigned to Deep South Wrestling (DSW), a WWE developmental territory. Miller was one of over twenty developmental wrestlers to be sent for further preparation at the new Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) territory when the WWE ended its relationship with DSW in the spring of 2007. Miller appeared as the boss of Shawn McGrath, who went by the name Heath Wallace Miller Esq., but he reverted to his real name and restarted his singles career while continuing to direct McGrath.

During some FCW shows in 2007, Miller was given The Happy Hour. Billy Kidman appeared to idolize Kidman, but then announced that Kidman's career was fading during one segment. This caused a feud between the two teams, which culminated in a string of matches between them. Miller began fighting the FCW Southern Heavyweight Championship on behalf of champion Ted DiBiase, Jr., who had been hospitalized. Miller was proclaimed champion after DiBiase forfeited the belt and Miller was crowned the reigning champion.

At an FCW show on February 15, 2008, Miller and his tag teammate Steve Lewington lost to John Morrison and The Miz for the WWE Tag Team Championship. In February 2008, Miller and Lewington advanced to the finals of a tournament for the inaugural Florida Tag Team Championship. Miller and Lewington reached the finals after defeating Brandon Groom and Greg Jackson as well as The Thoroughbreds (Johnny Curtis and Kevin Kiley). Miller and Lewington lost in the finals to The Puerto Rican Nightmares (Eddie Colón and Eric Perez). He won the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship on September 11, working with Joe Hennig. Sebastian Slater, the champion, shortened his ring name to Sebastian Slater. Slater and Hennig lost the title to The New Hart Foundation (Harry Smith and TJ Wilson) in Tampa, Florida, on October 30, 2008. He recovered from injury and beat Justin Angel later this year. Miller defeated Tyler Reks on August 13, 2009, becoming the FCW Heavyweight Champion for the 50th time on television. In a two out of three falls match on September 24, 2009, the FCW Heavyweight Championship was defeated to Justin Gabriel in a two out of three out of three falls matches.

Miller, now known as Heath Slater, was one of eight FCW wrestlers to compete on the first season of the NXT show on February 16, 2010, with Christian as his storyline mentor. Slater debuted as a face on the inaugural episode of NXT as he and Christian defeated Carlito and Michael Tarver in a tag team match. Slater beat Carlito in NXT's first NXT rookie to beat a WWE pro two weeks later. In the first Pros' poll, he came in fourth out of eight rookies on the March 30 episode of NXT. Slater won a keg-carrying competition against all other rookies on April 6 episodes. He was forced to miss out on the big game that night, against Kane. In an exciting victory on April 20, Slater defeated Chris Jericho in the main event of NXT. However, Slater finished fourth in the second Pros Poll, despite this, despite being announced on May 11. He was booted from NXT on May 25, finishing last in the Pros' Poll.

On the evening of Raw, Slater, and the other season one, one NXT rookies came to a halt, threatening both competitors, Jerry Lawler and Justin Roberts before dismantling the ring area and surrounding equipment. When the rookies (sans Daniel Bryan, who had been suspended from his service) refused to give them contracts, they screamed on the episode of Raw on June 14. The seven rookies erupted in the WWE Championship match, costing Cena the title to Sheamus as a result. Vince McMahon fired Hart and installed Anonymous General Manager Anonymous, who signed the seven seasons one NXT rookies to contracts. The Nexus group was founded in The United States this week. The Nexus played in their first match together, without Darren Young, a six-on-one handicap match against John Cena, which they won when Gabriel pinned Cena. The Nexus continued to compete with Cena and the Raw roster, resulting in a seven-on-seven elimination tag team match at SummerSlam. Both Chris Jericho and Edge were slashed by Slater, but Daniel Bryan was forced to leave the match, with Team Cena winning the match.

Cena was forced to join The Nexus in October 2010 after losing to Barrett in a Cell and at Bragging Rights, Cena and David Otunga also won the WWE Tag Team Championship. Barrett made a tag team match on October 25 of Raw, with Gabriel and Slater competing against Otunga and Cena for the championship. Gabriel and Slater were able to win when Barrett ordered Otunga to bind him. Gabriel and Slater were crowned for nearly two months before losing the trophy to Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov in a four-way elimination match involving both The Usos and Yoshi Tatsu on the December 6 episode of Raw. Gabriel and Slater were a winner at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs, but they were disqualified after Nexus member Michael McGillicutty interfered. Raw, Gabriel, and Slater's episode on January 10, 2011, they declined to participate in new Nexus CEO CM Punk's introduction and walked away from the company.

Wade Barrett and Ezekiel Jackson, respectively, appeared on SmackDown, Gabriel and Slater's taping on January 11, 2011 as their former chief Wade Barrett and Ezekiel Jackson attack Big Show. Gabriel, Slater, Barrett, and Jackson formed The Cork, and later that night, Gabriel defeated World Heavyweight Champion Edge in a non-title match after interference from the other members of The Corcoronist. Gabriel and Slater qualified for the WWE Tag Team Championship after beating the champions Kozlov and Marella on the February 4 episode of SmackDown, but The Corrupters interrupted after losing by disqualification. On February 20, the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view match was rematched, with Marella and Kozlov taking the WWE Tag Team Championship for the second time. Following Raw, Gabriel and Slater's loss to John Cena and The Miz, the Miz's crown was rematch bound, and the Miz immediately switched to Cena. With Slater pinning Cena, the match came to an end. The Correspondents began a feud with Big Show, and the team of Big Show, Kane, Santino Marella, and Kofi Kingston defeated The Corre. Gabriel and Slater's pair lost the Tag Team Championship to Kane and The Big Show at the SmackDown taping on April 19. Gabriel was assaulted by Slater, who believed Gabriel was to blame for the match's loss in a backstage segment. Gabriel, Barrett, and Slater, the 2011 edition of SmackDown, assaulted Jackson, excluding him from the team. On the 10th edition of SmackDown, Barrett and Slater clashed against Jackson and The Usos, which culminated in Gabriel and Slater not knowing that The Corrupt was over. Slater and Gabriel then got a feud with The Usos. The Usos defeated SmackDown, Gabriel, and Slater on June 17, 2011, then defeating them in a rematch on June 24, 2011. In the Bank ladder match, he and Gabriel were added the next day.

On the episode of SmackDown, the guys were defeated again by The Usos, showing a visible difference and insurgent argument in the ring following the match. Slater started a feud with Gabriel on SmackDown's episode on July 15, 2011, after he screamed out that Gabriel was holding him down. Slater lost to Gabriel the same night as the others. Gabriel and SmackDown Money in the Bank ladder competition, which was won by Daniel Bryan, were matched in the SmackDown Money on July 17. WWE suspended Slater due to a Wellness Violation for 30 days on October 17.

Slater appeared in segments involving WWE veterans returning to Raw on June 11, 2012, as a build-up to Raw's 1000th episode on July 23. 2012. Slater will enter the competition and face "the so-called legends" or "any former WWE champion," resulting in his losing a series of squash matches, including the first two to Vader and Sycho Sid. In a comedic segment starring Roddy Piper, Wendi Richter, and Cyndi Lauper, he was even more humiliated. On the 2012 version of Raw, he defeated Doink the Clown, but Diamond Dallas Page appeared in the ring and performed the Diamond Cutter on Slater. After losing to Sin Cara and announcing a challenge "to any former champion" and promising to defeat him, Bob Backlund accepted the challenge on July 9, 2012. Slater struck Backlund shortly after he had arrived with a cheap shot. Backlund used the crossface chickenwing submission hold and held it in long after Slater had tapped out. Scotty 2 Hotty, Rikishi, and Road Warrior Animal defeated Slater in subsequent matches.

During the 1000th episode of Raw, he demanded a "no disqualifications, no timeout" match and promised his own victory on July 23, 2012. Lita responded to the challenge, but Lita said she had "hired herself a little shield" before the game could begin, prompting the publication of APA. Slater tried to leave, but all of the celebrities who had sluggishly treated Slater in the previous weeks on Raw pushed him back to the ring. Lita brought a twist of fate on Slater, as well as a Bradshaw outfit. After a moonsault, Lita pinned Slater. The legends reacted angrily as Slater lay dying in the rings, while Farooq taunted him with his catch "Damn!" "Itanicus is a disorder that has caused a lot of confusion."

Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal appeared in Slater's match against Brodus Clay on September 21, 2012, demonstrating Clay. The trio, or 3MB for short, later settled on the name of the Three Man Band. Slater would then continue to be the 3MB's brash and confident leader. 3MB won several matches against Team Co-Bro (Santino Marella and Zack Ryder) and the Usos, many of which were due to unlawful intervention. At TLC, 3MB's winning streak came to an end, with the help of The Miz, Alberto Del Rio, and the Brooklyn Brawler. 3MB lost again to Miz, Del Rio, and Tommy Dreamer later tonight at the Slammy Awards next night. McIntyre and Mahal were often intervening in Slater's matches on Slater's behalf, defending the trio's leader. On the 20th anniversary of Raw, the threeMB defeated Sheamus in an Over the Top Challenge. Slater and McIntyre were among the inaugural champions of the NXT Tag Team Championship tournament, but Adrian Neville and Oliver Grey defeated them in the first round of the NXT Tag Team Championship tournament on January 23rd. He started from number 10 in the Royal Rumble but was disqualified by John Cena. The Shield came out and assaulted Triple H on the SmackDown Slater, as the rest of 3MB was addressing Brock Lesnar, but the Shield then burst them. 3MB called out The Shield on Raw, but instead, Brock Lesnar came out and slashed the three of them, handing the F-5 to Slater twice on the barricade. The Shield, who would turn the tables on them, was attacked two weeks later on Raw, 3MB. Team Hell No returned to the ring, presumably to save 3MB, but the Shield was dispersed and Team Hell No attacked 3MB instead. The organization's main brand television shows it will clash with Zack Ryder on Superstars over the next few months, but mostly as jobbers.

When on tour in the United Kingdom, 3MB changed their name to The Union Jacks, but they were defeated by Santino Marella and Los Matadores on November 11, 2013. Slater and McIntyre will defeat The Prime Time Players on November 13, 2013. The Union Jacks were defeated by R-Truth and The Prime Time Players on SmackDown's episode on November 15, 2013. The Rhinestone Cowboys competed on Raw, 3MB's country music show on November 18, 2013. In Nashville, Tennessee, McIntyre and Mahal lost to R-Truth and the debuting Xavier Woods. In addition, the company's name change trend continued to quantify the group's losses as they lost to The Prime Time Players on SmackDown as The Fabulous Freebirds, a play on the legendary tag team. They were billed as The Plymouth Rockers, a play on The Rockers' tag team, even though they were out to the Rockers' theme tunes and met Los Matadores in a losing effort on November 29, 2013. Slater took time off from WWE to attend to personal issues shortly after the match. He returned to Raw on January 6, 2014, when Rikishi and Too Cool defeated him 3MB. Slater won over Kofi Kingston on Superstars on April 4, 2014. All three members of WrestleMania XXX joined The Great Khali and Xavier Woods as a unit during the battle Royal and then sacked them as a unit by Mark Henry. 3MB became involved in a feud with Los Matadores, which culminated in Hornswoggle teaming up with the trio in order to rival with El Torito. Slater and McIntyre defeated Los Matadores on April 28, 2014, in their first match since December 2012. Mahal and McIntyre were fired from their WWE contracts on June 12, 2014, effectively ending 3MB.

Slater's face change came on the Raw's June 16, 2014 edition as he stood up to Rusev and Lana by responding to their anti-American ads. However, Rusev, who used the Accolade on Slater, was able to win quickly. Slater met Adam Rose in a losing effort on June 26, 2014, a Superstars episode. During this time, Slater Gator also won medals on Main Event over Los Matadores and Gold and Stardust. On February 3, 2015, Slater returned to action in a heavy match against Luke Harper. SmackDown, Slater Gator's 2015 version was the first version of SmackDown, Slater Gator, where they were quickly defeated by Daniel Bryan's crew and Roman Reigns in a tag team chaos match.

On the February 16, 2015 episode of Raw, O'Neil made a face turn and reformed the Prime Time Players with Darren Young, effectively ending Slater Gator. "I'm going to start focusing on ME," Slater posted on social media later that night. I'm much happier on my own... "It's about time I get what I deserve," the couple said, reaffirming their breakup. Slater got a shorter haircut a few weeks later. Slater competed in the 30-man Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 31, which was dominated by Big Show. Slater defeated Zack Ryder with the help of The Social Outcasts on the February 15 episode of Raw. Slater competed in the 3rd annual André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 32, but was disqualified. The Social Outcasts started filming The Marine 5: Battleground in May, taking them out of action.

On the June 27 episode of Raw, the Social Outcasts returned to confronting Enzo Amore and Big Cass. The Social Outcasts defeated Enzo Amore and Big Cass in a losing attempt this week.

Slater was the first active Superstar not chosen by either party until the 2016 WWE draft was completed. Slater appeared on the SmackDown episode on July 26, cutting a highly acclaimed worked shoot promo addressing the subject, only to be attacked by a returning Rhyno shortly after. Slater tried to win a contract over the next two weeks but was disqualified. Despite not being at the venue, WWE audiences chanted "We want Slater" during Roman Reigns and Rusev's brawl, as well as Raw's following night.

Slater's beginning as a struggling father with many children to help, including the catchphrase "I got kids," is slowly transitioning Slater to a fan favorite for the first time since 2010. He eventually signed with SmackDown and found an unexpected ally in Rhyno, with the two teams winning in the finals of a tag team tournament at Backlash, defeating The Usos and becoming the inaugural SmackDown Tag Team Champions. No Mercy, Slater, and Rhyno all won the titles against The Usos on October 9, 1993. In an All Hallow's Eve Trick or Street Fight on October 30, Raw, Slater and Rhyno defeated The Club. He ranked as the fifth entrant in the 2018 Royal Rumble, but Baron Corbin stung him before he could enter the arena. He will then be repeatedly attacked by new entrants, thus preventing him from entering the contest. Sheamus, the eleventh entrant, was inserted into the ring and Slater immediately dismissed him in a shocking move, but Bray Wyatt was ruled seconds later. Slater competed in the fifth annual André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal in WrestleMania 34, but did not win. He also participated in the 50-man Royal Rumble contest at the Greatest Royal Rumble, where he came in second place at number 36. However, Braun Strowman, the eventual winner, had him defeated.

On the December 3 episode of Raw, acting general manager Baron Corbin coerced Slater and Rhyno to combat each other with the stipulation that the loser be fired. Slater won, but Corbin immediately repositioned him as a referee rather than a competitor. Slater's interview on Raw next week refereed a match between Elias and Lio Rush, where he allowed Bobby Lashley to beat Elias, resulting in Rush's victory. He attempted to cost Seth Rollins the Intercontinental Championship by assisting Corbin during their match but fell short. Slater was supposed to referee a TLC match between Braun Strowman and Baron Corbin, but during the game Slater took off his referee shirt (with support from Apollo Crews, Bobby Roode, Chad Gable, Finn Bálor, and Kurt Angle), allowing him to win the match. The McMahon family (Vince, Stephanie, Shane, and Triple H) has confirmed that Raw and SmackDown will be under collective ownership of Raw and SmackDown. Corbin wanted to be the permanent Raw general manager, but the family learned that he'd have to win a no disqualification handicap match against Angle, Crews, Roode, and Gable without Slater as referee, which he lost. On the December 24 episode of Raw, Corbin was fired from office, and Rhyno returned to assist Slater against an attack by Jinder Mahal. Raw, Slater, and Rhyno went out of business against Mahal and The Singh Brothers the following week in a losing effort. Slater entered in the sixth annual André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal in WrestleMania 35, but failed to win. After Rhyno left WWE, his team was called off on July 17.

Slater briefly captured the 24/7 Championship from R-Truth before losing it back to Truth on the June 24 episode of Raw. Slater's first singles championship victory in WWE came this week. Slater was introduced to SmackDown as part of the 2019 draft. Slater appeared in a backstage segment with Daniel Bryan on February 7, 2020, trying to sympathize with the former after losing Bray Wyatt for the first time. Bryant's poor choice of words culminated in a match between him and Bryan, in which Bryan Bryan emerged victorious. Bryan was rematch again two weeks later, where he was crowned once more.

He was forced to leave his WWE performance due to budget constraints resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, which culminated in his 14-year tenure with the organization on April 15, 2020. Slater, who was still on a 90-day no-compete clause, appeared on July 6 to confront his former 3MB teammate Drew McIntyre, who pleaded for a match against McIntyre, which he lost quickly. Slater was assaulted by Dolph Ziggler before being saved by McIntyre as the two hugged and shared a moment in the ring together. On July 14, 2020, his no-compete clause came to an end.

On July 18, 2020, Matthew Miller, now known as Heath, made his Impact Wrestling debut, a free agent before being interrupted by Rohit Raju, who insulted Heath before Heath attacked him. Heath would later marry Rhino, his former tag team partner, before being told to leave the building by Impact executive Scott D'Amore as he was not an Impact employee. Heath made his in-ring debut on August 4 by challenging Moose for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and a spot on the roster, but was disqualified. Despite this, Rhino and his band "#Heath4IMPACT" launched a "#Heath4IMPACT" campaign to convince the company to sign Heath, as well as celebrity endorsements from David Hasselhoff, Flava Flav, Nancy Kerrigan, and Chuck Norris.

For the first time in Impact, Heath and Rhino met Reno Scum (Adam Thornstowe and Luster the Legend). Heath had agreed to a deal three days later, but contract talks fell apart three days later. Heath and Rhino were able to participate in the Call Your Shot Gauntlet match at Bound for Glory, and if either man wins, Heath will receive his deal, and if neither man wins, Rhino will be fired. Rhino won the match, effectively giving Heath a Heath contract, but Heath suffered an injury during the match.

After a year absence, he recovered from injury on the September 30, 2021, episode of Impact!, saving Rhino from a potential threat by Violent By Design, a stable in which Rhino used to be a member. At Turning Point, Heath and Rhino agreed to challenge VBD to a one-match match. Rhino and Heath were disqualified at the tournament.

On October 8, 2022, during the Impact!

Heath and Rhino qualified to the new Impact World Tag Team Champions in Impact Wrestling, winning his first title.
