Early years

Lisa Helen Mitchell was born on 22 March 1990 in Canterbury, England. Her parents, Angus and Ruth, are both doctors, and she has a younger sister, Nicola. The Mitchell family had moved to Australia when she was three and she grew up near Albury on a 20-hectare (49-acre) farm. She attended The Scots School Albury. She began guitar lessons at 12, and leaned towards the folk and rock genres. Mitchell later recalled her pivotal moment was seeing Missy Higgins perform "Scar" on the program Video Hits: "My sister called me out to watch it ... Missy was a really normal, cool chick making music as her own thing. I found that really inspiring".

She performed in local cafes and events as well as with a cover band, Chrome, with "three of my best friends". At that time "We thought that The Donnas and Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were the ultimate women of the world". Her varied inspirations include Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens and Neil Young, which her father favoured as she was growing up, as well as Patti Smith, Regina Spektor, Clare Bowditch, Joanna Newsom, and later, Lou Reed and Velvet Underground. Mitchell also formed a duo with another Albury-based friend, Katherine Green, which was "More along the lines of what I do on my own now, only a lot folkier. We sang […] colonial folk tunes actually. Quite traditional and harmony based. We had brilliant fun playing in the chalkboard tents at the folk festivals in Australia". Mitchell was later based in Sydney, London and then Melbourne.

Lisa Mitchell Career

Music career

Lisa Mitchell rose to national prominence as a contestant on Australian Idol Season 4, performing cover versions and two of her own creations, "See It in Your Eyes" and "Too Far Gone," from August to October 2006. Mitchell, 16, had auditioned in Albury in April and was later accepted in the final six before being disqualified in mid-October. Mitchell reflected on her time on Australian Idol in June 2009: "I was uncomfortable with certain aspects of the show and often worried about compromises." I wasn't sure what I wanted with music, but I did know that I loved it. I think that was the case. It took me a long time to find my own way. "I never went back to school."

"Lisa Mitchell's journey from Australian Idol misfit to folk siren is the story of a road less traveled four years ago, four years after Lisa Mitchell appeared on TV talent series Australian Idol. In fact, it would not be overstating things to say that it ranks among the music industry's most surprising career paths. Such an ointment for a young naive teen with a sweet voice, a guitar, and vague acoustic-folk aspirations may have been the kiss of death."

Mitchell's first online gig, which attracted 10,000 viewers, began in March 2007. Raechel Lee, a fellow Australian Idol Top 24 contestant, performed at a National Youth Week function in Parkes on April 13th. Mitchell's set of eight original tracks was followed by later joining The Lees on stage: "Alice" and "See It in Your Eyes," her originals, as well as a montage of Ben Harper's "Diamonds on the Inside" were accompanied by the pair.

During that year, she sponsored tours by Old Man River, The Hampdens, Bob Evans, Ben Lee, and Evermore. Said One to the Other, her first extended play, was released on August 4th on iTunes and physically one week later. Its four tracks were released by Evermore's Dann Hume and debuted on the ARIA Singles Chart at No. 1 on the ARIA Singles Chart. 27. It was distributed independently by Scorpio and Warner Music. It reached its high point at No. 10. 1 on the iTunes 'Top Albums' chart. TheDwarf.com.au website's Tange expressed delight in its "sweet, and cute, and delicate, as well as nice, but not really useful or advanced." "Incomplete Lullaby," co-written by Mitchell and Hume, was included in So You Think You Can Dance's Australian version of celebrity dance competition television series "So You Think You Can Dance."

Mitchell appeared on "Incomplete Lullaby" solo on SBS-TV's celebrity music quiz show RocKwiz on January 5, 2008, and then duetted with Quan Yeomans on "Raspberry Beacon." She continued her support act Ashleigh Mannix and Leroy Lee with second headlining tour next month. Mitchell then started writing for her debut album with Ben Lee, Evans, and Bowditch, but it wasn't used. Welcome to the Afternoon was her second EP, followed by two singles, "Neopolitan Dreams" (as a digital single) and "See You When You Get Here"; her second EP, Welcome to the Afternoon, was released on May 31. On Australian radio stations Triple J, FBi 94.5, and Nova 96.9, "Neopolitan Dreams" received a lot of airplay. It was ranked at No. 1 in the United States and was ranked at No. 127. The Triple J Hottest 100, 2008, 91.

Mitchell moved to London in April 2008 to continue writing for her debut album, collaborating with Ant Whiting, Ed Harcourt, and Sacha Skarbek. The official video for "Neopolitan Dreams" premiered on September 5th on iTunes, and the single was re-released the next day. It was used as the theme tune for the online series The MySpace Road Tour. It appears on the Packed to the Rafters soundtrack in a 3 Mobile television commercial in September; in a Deutsche Telekom ad; and in Spain in the El Corte Inglés Christmas ad. From "Welcome Away" to advertise the Olympic cliffhanger episode of Home and Away, the BBC used "Far Far Far Away" from Welcome to the Afternoon.

Mitchell was appointed by Paul Lester of The Guardian as "there's more to [her] than a note's ability." Even though her voice is perhaps too idiosyncratic for one of those reality shows, a little too quavery, kooky, and girly." Mitchell returned to Australia after being in London for six months. She began an Australian national tour in Canberra and ended in Perth in October and November.

A number of charity concerts were staged in February 2009; Lisa Mitchell performed unaccompanied at the Ding Dong Lounge in Melbourne, supporting Tex Perkins. "Her voice shines" in the Dwarf.com.au reviewer, Matt Stewart.

In April, she opened for Jason Mraz in Melbourne. With Andy Bull and Vanessa Jade supporting her, she toured again in the following month. Mitchell appeared at The Glastonbury Festival in 2009, which also included fellow Australian artists The Temper Trap. Mitchell's debut album, Wonder, debuted in July 2009, peaking at No. 68. The ARIA Albums Chart has a 6th position. Various tours in Australia and a European tour were included on the album's website, as well as a European tour.

The album, according to Ben Vernel of theDwarf.com.au, was "not a bad debut." In some respects, it's a little bit offensive and a little bit cutesy.... Aside from that, the songs are very well written." Although Andrew Murfett of The Age described it as "a brilliant debut album," Mitchell told him, "I'm happy where I am at the moment." It's all going well. I love working hard. And it's also nice to see the results" at the end.

By ARIA at the end of 2010, it had been granted a platinum record for shipment of 70,000 copies. Despite being based in London with "the crème de la crème de la creme de la crème de la creme of what you would like to record with," the creme de la creme of what you want to record with. We had Ed Harcourt playing the keys on everything, which was awesome. The bulk of the album tracks were recorded by Hume at The Stables Recording Studio in country Victoria. Three singles were released on the album: "Coin Laundry" (August 2009), which peaked at No. 2, which peaked at No. 1. "Clean White Love" (November) did not chart, and "Oh! "Oh!

Hark!"

(April 2010) ranked #100 on the top 100.

In a Bell Canada ad for the Palm Prem in August, "Coin Laundry" was featured. "Neopolitan Dreams" was also used in the game LittleBigPlanet (2009) and is the song of Chilean telco VTR's customer service. In October, Mitchell sponsored Newton Faulkner (aka Crispin Hunt) on his Rebuilt by Humans Tour around the UK and Republic of Ireland, which included shows in Dublin, Belfast, Glasgow, and Newcastle. Mitchell was nominated in three categories: Best Female Artist, Breakthrough Artist, and Breakthrough Artist – Single for "Coin Laundry," according to ARIA Music Awards in 2009. At No. 1, "Coin Laundry" was ranked No. 1. In the 2009 Triple J Hottest 100, seven children ranked 7th.

Mitchell appeared at the Big Day Out festival in January 2010. "Be silly and put way too much sparkles on my eyelids, make up silly songs with Stuart [Barlow] (guitarist) and revise my 'Coin Laundry' rant. (I have to remind people not to throw coins, etc.)" Oh Mercy, Tame Impala, Kisschasey, and Eskimo Joe all enjoyed socializing with others.

In an advertisement for the 2010 season of Bondi Rescue, her song "Pirouette" was featured. On the quarter final episode of TV show "Neopolitan Dreams" in March of this year, Lena Meyer-Landrut was covered by Lena Meyer-Landrut, who was competing for the chance to represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest in March. Mitchell's single reach No. 1 was due to Meyer-Landrut's exposure, which culminated in his appearance. On the German Singles Chart, the 33nd positions are on the 33nd place. Mitchell went on her Oh! from April to May 2010.

Hark!

On March 27, 2012, Lisa Mitchell released a single, "Spiritus," and she undertook a national tour of church venues, Heavenly Sounds, with Georgia Fair supporting her. Wilson of Georgia Fair's Wilson appeared in "Spiritus" as her "love interest," according to a music video, and the single debuted at number 91. Mitchell "exposed her philosophical and spiritual side when she began describing the album's meaning," Scene Magazine's Rob McNicol said. She addressed a variety of real world problems, including the breakdown of culture, the negative consequences of money, and the scarcity of wisdom being passed down through the generations – all the while maintaining a positive outlook on life. "There's a disconnect between Mitchell's off-kilter folk roots and a desire to push back against the pigeonhole's gravitational pull," Victoria Birch of FasterLouder wrote. She isn't ready to write off the past, but she is eager to press forward."

In September, the title track was released as a single ahead of the album. In early October, the album was also available on full streaming.

Mitchell appeared at the Melbourne Zoo in early February, the Georgia Fair supported him, with the aim of "assisting wildlife in combating extinction." In March, she joined Neil Finn and Paul Kelly on their combined Going Your Way Tour of Australia. In May, she was interviewed by Marc Fennell for ABC News 24's One Plus One. "I like to demo..." says the singer. On my Mac, I do really dodgy Garage Band demos... it starts right there, and you can be a control freak and do it how you want."
