Early life
Jauregui was born in Miami, Florida, on June 27, 1996, to Cuban parents Michael Jauregui and Clara Morgado. Her father is a plant manager, and her mother, a teacher, moved to the United States after Fidel Castro took power. Jauregui has mainly Cuban ancestry as well as some Spanish. Jauregui, the eldest of three siblings, attended a co-ed Catholic school from pre-K to sixth grade. She then attended Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, an all-girls Catholic college preparatory school in Miami, on academic scholarship. She was a member of the international Baccalaureate program at the university and competed in the talent show and softball team. Jauregui expressed herself through the arts in school, while still creating "constantly creating," writing, dancing, choreographing, playing piano, and painting.
Activism and personal life
Jauregui is a media celebrity who promotes a variety of topics, including human rights, education, criminal justice, election reform, and other social problems. She has spoken out about democracy, been involved in marches, and has collaborated with several organisations and attended events that support such causes. Since the 2016 United States presidential race, she has written several open letters chastising Donald Trump and his programs, including the "Muslim ban," including the "Disrespectful to humanity" tag. Career
Jauregui auditioned for the second season of The X Factor U.S. in 2012. She was called back at the age of 16 for the televised audition in front of the judges at the age of 15. Alicia Keys performed "If I Ain't Got You" for her role. Judge Antonio Reid characterized Jauregui's voice as "husky, round, mature" and her performance as "perfect." After receiving approval from all four judges, she advanced to the next round. With the song "These Arms of Mine," she was up against country group Sister Sister Sister C in the second round of bootcamp. After being disqualified as a solo artist in the competition, Jauregui was brought back and formed with Ally Brooke, Normani, Dinah Jane, and Camila Cabello, which would later become Fifth Harmony. Samantha Gongol of Marian Hill said the pair had been wanting to work together since they met at one of Marian Hill's shows a year ago, and they completed the song with her in a brief period she had outside her hectic schedule with Fifth Harmony. Jauregui told them she had written her verse about five minutes before deciding to record it, and she did so more deftly than we should have done," Jeremy Lloyd of Marian Hill said. At MTV's Plus 1 The Vote Election Party, Jauregui performed two new songs, "More Than This" and "Freedom" in November 2018. On January 11, 2019, Jauregui introduced "More Than That" in the form. In April 2019, Jauregui and Columbia became the first to sign the Records imprint. On July 24, Jauregui performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival by Quincy Jones' invitation for his festival's closing night in honor of his music. In August, Jauregui announced that her debut album would be released in 2020. She appeared at the invitation-only Women of JammJam festival in September, partnering with the charity She Is the Music. "Let Me Know," Jauregui's debut solo song on Clear Eyes in early December 2019.
