Kim came in as a semifinalist on Korea's Got Talent 2 in 2012.
He was invited to appear on a new music program for amateurs facing professional singers called Vocal War: God's Voice in 2016. Kim earned the opportunity to advance to the next round with his interpretation of Boohwal's "The Beautiful Truth." With his appearance of "Autumn in Front of the Post Office," he later became the champion of the first episode, which was conceived by Yoon Do-hyun, the veteran singer he defeated.
