Lauren Jauregui Career

Career

Jauregui auditioned for the second season of The X Factor U.S. in 2012. She was called back at the age of 16 for the televised audition in front of the judges at the age of 15. Alicia Keys performed "If I Ain't Got You" for her role. Judge Antonio Reid characterized Jauregui's voice as "husky, round, mature" and her performance as "perfect." After receiving approval from all four judges, she advanced to the next round. With the song "These Arms of Mine," she was up against country group Sister Sister Sister C in the second round of bootcamp. After being disqualified as a solo artist in the competition, Jauregui was brought back and formed with Ally Brooke, Normani, Dinah Jane, and Camila Cabello, which would later become Fifth Harmony. The team made it to the finals and came in third place in the competition.

Fifth Harmony was signed to Simon Cowell's label Syco Music and L.A. Reid's Epic Records in January 2013. Jauregui dropped out of school to work with Fifth Harmony, and then received her high school diploma through homeschooling. In October 2013, the band's debut EP Better Together appeared. Reflection was the band's debut album in January 2015. Jauregui did not participate in the release of Reflection because her grandmother died the day after the album's debut and her bandmates suggested she go to Florida. The album's third single "Worth It" reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, the highest peak on the chart to date. The group also contributed "I'm in Love with a Monster" to the soundtrack of the animated film Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015). At the Billboard Women in Music awards in December 2015, Fifth Harmony was honoured as "Group of the Year" at the Billboard Women in Music awards.

In May 2016, Fifth Harmony's second album 7/27 was released. The album's lead single, "Work From Home," debuted at number four on the Billboard Hot 100, and many international charts have ranked in the top ten. In eight years, "Work From Home" became the first song from a girl group to debut in the Billboard Hot 100. The band's third album, Fifth Harmony, was released in August 2017, the group's first as a foursome after Cabello's departure in December 2016. The album was the first time the group was able to co-write and have an agency negotiate an album's creative direction. The group announced in March 2018 that they would go on an indefinite hiatus to develop as individual artists and pursue solo ambitions.

Following the group's second album, Jauregui continued with Fifth Harmony and began exploring solo songwriting, though other members worked on solo projects outside of the company. She performed with Marian Hill on "Back to Me," Jauregui's first appearance outside of Fifth Harmony in December 2016. Jauregui said that being able to "form a genuine link" with the duo and write for the album was a "honor," while giving "a snippet of my vibe for the first time in collaboration with them." Samantha Gongol of Marian Hill said the pair had been wanting to work together since they met at one of Marian Hill's shows a year ago, and they completed the song with her in a brief period she had outside her hectic schedule with Fifth Harmony. Jauregui told them she had written her verse about five minutes before deciding to record it, and she did so more deftly than we should have done," Jeremy Lloyd of Marian Hill said. Lloyd also praised Jauregui's harmonies, boasting that she has "an amazing harmonic ear." Jauregui was selected as the sexiest woman in AfterEllen's top 100 list of the year at the end of 2016.

At the British LGBT Awards in May 2017, Jauregui was named "Celebrity of the Year" in recognition of campaigning for equality for LGBTQ people. Jauregui appeared on Halsey's "Strangers," which Billboard praised as a "long-overdue bisexual milestone in mainstream music." Halsey favored Jauregui, who is openly bisexual, for the track: "I just love that Lauren and I are just two women with a mainstream pop presence doing a love song for the LGBTQ community." In Your Phone" from Ty Dolla Sign's album Beach House 3 (2017), Jauregui appeared on Ty Dolla Sign's "In Your Phone." On the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart, the album peak appeared at number 23. In addition, Jauregui performed "All Night" with Steve Aoki, who came from his album Neon Future III (2018). Jauregui's first appearance as a primary songwriter and lead singer on "All Night" was Jauregui's first appearance as a primary songwriter and lead singer. She also produced the vocals on the track. "She's got so many ideas... She's really meticulous." Aoki recalled working with Jauregui: "She's got so many ideas... she's so precise." Lauren's attention to detail is something I don't find in many people. "She has the ears, the sensibility, and the vision." Jauregui said that her non-independence projects are a "chance to discover myself and discover who I am as an individual artist" as well as an investigation into different artists' "seeing what it is that we create together." In January 2018, it was announced that she would be signing to Columbia Records for her future solo work.

Jauregui started working on solo music and graphics in May 2018. She previously stated in March 2018 that she has been exploring and getting "in touch" with herself creatively, that she does not want to give herself "boundaries" and that many styles, including electronica, pop, rock 'n roll, alternative rock, and Latin music, have influenced her. Jauregui opened Halsey's Latin American leg of her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom World Tour in June 2018. "Toy," "Inside," and "Expectations" were three songs she had written on the tour with Halsey. Jauregui said she has been composing instrumentation and playing it on the piano since September. She has no set date for her album debut as she is "really trying to make it be as natural as possible" and that it will be announced as soon as she feels it is ready. Jauregui said she wrote all of her songs.

On October 24, 2018, Jauregui recorded her debut solo single "Expectations" with accompanying music video.

Of her creative process, Jauregui said:

At MTV's Plus 1 The Vote Election Party, Jauregui performed two new songs, "More Than This" and "Freedom" in November 2018. On January 11, 2019, Jauregui introduced "More Than That" in the form. In April 2019, Jauregui and Columbia became the first to sign the Records imprint. On July 24, Jauregui performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival by Quincy Jones' invitation for his festival's closing night in honor of his music. In August, Jauregui announced that her debut album would be released in 2020. She appeared at the invitation-only Women of JammJam festival in September, partnering with the charity She Is the Music. "Let Me Know," Jauregui's debut solo song on Clear Eyes in early December 2019.

"Invisible Chains" was written and performed by Jauregui for Birds of Prey: The Album, the album of Birds of Prey, was released in February 2020 by Jauregui. In February 2020, she worked with Puerto Rican producer Tainy on his Latin urban song "Nada" starring Spanish artist C. Tangana. On March 20, 2020, Jauregui released the Tainy-produced song "Lento" and its music video. Jauregui performed the song "50ft" on April 17, 2020. Jauregui was supposed to appear at Something in the Water festival in Virginia Beach in April 2020 and at the inaugural Virgin Fest in Los Angeles in June, but both performances were postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jauregui appeared at Billboard's Live At Home Concert in March 2020 to raise funds for coronavirus disease research. She began volunteering and speaking to raise funds for the coronavirus disease pandemic in Global Citizen and the World Health Organisation's Together At Home campaign, which she led and discussed. On September 11, 2020, Jauregui appeared on "The Bad Part" from Johnny Rain's EP2. ChocQuibTown, a Colombian company, collaborated with Jauregui on two songs from their forthcoming album.

In April 2021, Jauregui collaborated with Ad Council's Sound It Out campaign, which encourages students and caregivers to have honest discussions of mental health. In honor of a chat she had with a young student, she wrote "Temporary" for the initiative's EP. Jauregui contributed the song "While I'm Alive" to the all-female compilation Big Femme Energy Vol. in July. Femme It Forward, a female-led entertainment company, focuses on celebrating and empowering women while still emphasizing more inclusivity in the music industry. For Diane Warren's debut album The Cave Sessions, Vol. 1, Jauregui performed the song "Not Prepared For You." In August 2021, the first one was released. Jauregui revealed on her social media pages that she is an ambassador for Rihanna's Savage X Fenty lingerie brand.

Jauregui announced Prelude, her debut solo project, on September 15, 2021, as well as a Livestream video performance on October 14 and 15. In October, Vic Mensa appeared on "Colors" and "Scattered" as a result of her release. On November 3, Jauregui debuted "On Guard," which featured singer 6lack. Prelude was released on November 5, 2021, via her own record label Attunement Records. In March 2022, she released Attunement, a comedy, as part of Pattunement.

In April 2022, it was revealed that Jauregui would be assisting American singer Banks on the North American leg of her Serpentina Tour in July and August 2022.
