Jane auditioned for "If I Were a Boy" by Beyoncé in 2012. She sang "Hero" by Mariah Carey in her bootcamp solo performance and became the only Fifth Harmony member to have it broadcast. During which she skipped some of the lyrics, she performed against Diamond White in her bootcamp round singing "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" during which she lost some of the songs. She was disqualified during the bootcamp round of competition, but was recalled along with Ally Brooke, Normani, Lauren Jauregui, and Camila Cabello to form the girl group now known as Fifth Harmony. The team made it all the way to the finals and landed in third place.

"Miss Moving On" was Fifth Harmony's debut album. They released their debut EP, Better Together in 2013, their first album Reflection in January 2015, and their second album 7/27 in May 2016. According to several international charts, their first two albums, "Worth It" and "Work from Home," respectively, topped the top ten. With their single "I'm in Love with a Monster," the group also contributed to the soundtrack of the animated film Hotel Transylvania 2. Following Cabello's departure, they released their third self-titled third studio album and first as a four-member group on August 25, 2017. The company declared an indefinite halt to concentrate on solo projects on March 19, 2018.

Jane auditioned to star in the then-upcoming animated film Moana in 2015; however, the role was eventually transferred to Auli Cravalho. Jane was featured on Fuse's website in an article about the faces of future Asian and Pacific history, naming the region's most promising entertainers in 2017. In October 2018, she appeared in the song's music video and performed the single on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. On December 3, 2018, Jane performed two new songs "Retrograde" and "I Don't Care" at the Jingle Bash. Jane performed "Retrograde" in a music video on March 26, 2019.
