Early life
Shelley was born in Clevedon, North Somerset, (then in Avon). He attended Kings of Wessex Academy in Cheddar before graduating from Weston College in 2011. Shelley has two brothers and two step-sisters Anabelle and Louisa, who are four half-brothers. Harriett, his younger sister, died after being struck by a car in 2017. Shelley studied at Weston College in Weston-super-Mare from 2010 to 2011, where he obtained a BTEC Extended Diploma in Graphic Design.
Personal life
Shelley posted a video on February 3rd, 2016 in response to rumors about his sexuality, in which he said he is attracted to both men and women. However, he has also stated that he does not want to be branded bisexual: "I've had girlfriends that I've adored, and they've been amazing times of my life." However, I've also had boyfriends. And if you want to know that whether I choose to be with a girl next or a guy next, it should be because I love them and it shouldn't be a big deal."
The singer came out as gay in July 2018, after the introduction of his debut single "Technicolor." "I was afraid for a long time, afraid of going out," he said in an interview with Celebmix.com. But when I did, everyone was just like, "yeah."
It was revealed in February 2022 that he was dating medical student and Out of the Blue singer Rory Naylor.
Career
Shelley was a member of British band Only the Young in 2012, but she was forced to audition for the ninth series of The X Factor as a solo artist playing "Toxic" during the bootcamp stage, as had boy band Triple J. However, an extra seat was opened up in Louis Walsh's category for judges' houses due to Rough Copy's request to pull from the show. Blair Dreelan, Triple J's boss, was contacted by The X Factor Company, who wanted the company to recover on the grounds that Shelley was added to the three-piece. All parties accepted the invitation, and the band, now a four-piece, became Union J and advanced to judges' houses alongside fellow recalled group Times Red. Union J continued to compete in the live shows and finished fourth, behind Christopher Maloney, Jahméne Douglas, and eventual winner James Arthur.
Shelley left the band on March 3rd, so he could concentrate on his acting and broadcasting careers. Union J will be reformed, with Shelley rejoining the band on January 31.2022.
Shelley joined MN2S in 2015 but was transferred to Coalition Talent, where he is portrayed by agent Vinesh Patel for his live work and Ashley Vallance at Cole Kitchenn for management. Shelley revealed in 2016 that he would debut his debut EP and a series of music videos to accompany it. On November 20, 2016, the EP's lead single, titled "360," was released. Shelley also created and published a calendar in 2017. Shelley appeared on The X Factor's fourteenth series in December 2017, where he co-presented alongside Stacey Solomon.
