Emma Wu Ying-chieh (born 11 August 1989), also known as Gui Gui Gui, is a Taiwanese singer and actress.

Early life

Wu Ying-chieh, nicknamed Gui Gui Gui Guang, was born in Keelung City, Taiwan, on August 11, 1989, and is the only child of divorced parents. The family moved a lot in her early childhood, resulting in her having to attend five separate elementary schools. Wu briefly attended the Dao Jiang Senior High School of Nursing & Home Economics () before transferring to Zhuangjing Senior Vocational School in Taipei, where she met with Wang Zi, a JPM student.

Wu has stated that she is "full of foolish stuff" (Chinese: "") and adopted a phonological term to indicate herself as having an eccentric or impish personality, referring to her alias, Gui Gui (literally: Ghost).

Wu debuted in November 2005 as one of the original members of Blackie's Teenage Club (Chinese: ), a variety show starring talents for the television network, Channel [V]. Wu was accepted to Hei Se Hui Mei Mei (Chinese: ), a nine-member Taiwanese girl group formed in 2006, following three rounds of casting. Despite the fact that the company's name was a clever play on the phrase "Hei She Hui" (Chinese: lit. "Black society; triad" and "Mei Mei" (Chinese: lit. (Sisters) was renamed Hey Girl (Chinese: Girl) following a brand change and the debut of their first self-titled album in August 2008.

Andy Chang, Channel V's director, denied rumors that Wu will leave his company in April 2009. Wu said that although she was unlikely to return to channel V, she would partake in group activities as normal, despite Chang's words, and that despite Chang's remark, Wu was still active on her album covers, and she announced her exit from Hey Girl and Channel V's management on May 6, 2009.

Brown Sugar Macchiato, Wu's debut with the idol drama in 2007. However, the drama was more viewed as a "introduction chapter" to the two groups, Hey Girl and Lollipop F, than a major production. The series came to an end on September 7, 2007, and Lollipop and Hey Girl's songs were included in the official soundtrack.

Wu performed in Mysterious Terminator, the opposite of Aaron Yan from Fahrenheit and Alien Huang, in 2008. M.I.T., Wu and Aaron, who were both lauded for their on-screen chemistry and closeness, were invited to co-star in the Taiwanese drama Momo Love. However, filming was suspended due to Yan's scheduling conflicts, and Wu and Aaron were replaced by Cyndi Wang and Jiro Wang, respectively, as soon as resumed.

Wu signed with Polyface Entertainment Media Group in 2011 and returned to I, My Brother, after a two-year absence. () Wu was cast in the television version of Painted Skin (TV series) later this year, along with Fiona Sit, Chen Yi Rong, and Li Zhong Han. Wu also had the opportunity to shift her attention away from the Chinese market.

Wu debuted on big screen in 2012 with a three-part film series starring Ronald Cheng, Anthony Wong, Deng Chao, and Liu Yifei. In February 2013, she appeared on Korean reality show We Got Married with Ok Taeceon of South Korean boy band 2PM as her virtual husband. "I'm glad that you found me," she says of this experience. I think the fact that I was able to attend this show was a gift from the up above."

Wu has appeared in Chinese television dramas for many years: Legend of Lu Zhen (), A Different Kind of Pretty Man (), Roommate Diaries (), The Girl Wearing Tassel Earrings () and The Legend of the Flying Daggers (1996). (2016)

Wu signed with CJ E&M on March 7, 2016 and returned to the music scene. She underwent a rigorous 3-month training program, which included vocal, choreography, and Korean lessons in preparation for her Korean debut. Wu released Sugar Rush, her first official music video, on September 26th, and GEMMA, her first self-titled EP, debuted on October 7th. Wu said that GEMMA represented a new identity in the extended play. While Emma is her proclaimed English name, "G" is derived from her nickname, Ghost (Chinese: ).

Wu left CJ E&M in June 2017 and founded Gemma Wu Studio, her personal representative. After investing NT$8 million in manufacturing, she released the single "Knock Knock Knock Knock Knock" in October of the same year.

In August 2019, Wu joined Avex Taiwan and released the single "Love Me Love Me" in honor of her thirtieth birthday. She launched her first studio album GX on September 22, 2020, to celebrate her 15th birthday.
