Joe Chen or Chen Chiao-en (Chinese: Chén Qióren; born 4 April 1979) is a Taiwanese actress, singer, and television presenter. Chen Qi'en is a Taiwanese actress, singer, and television presenter of The Prince Who Turns a Frog (2005), Fated to Love You (2008), and The Queen of SOP (2012).

She was nominated for her role in Fated to Love You at the 43rd Golden Bell Awards. Chen's fame in China increased in 2013, where she gained a large number of followers for her role as Dongfang Bubai in the Chinese wuxia series Swordsman.

For the first time, Chen appeared on Forbes' Celebrity 100 List for the first time.

Career

In 2001, Joe Chen began working as a model and assistant. After winning 1st place on Sanlih E-Television's talent show, she entered the entertainment industry. She began her acting career in 2002 by playing a supporting role in the television drama Lavender. Zhong Guo Na Me Da and Zong Yi Jian, among other popular Taiwanese hosts Jacky Wu and NONO, became a host for SET variety shows Zhong Guo Na Me Da and Zong Yi Jian.

She attracted the attention of SET's executive Zong Limei, who played her in 100 percent Senorita (2003) after being neglected by her employer for six months. This was her first leading role. The drama became the highest rated Taiwanese drama since, and it also achieved modest success abroad. Joe made her Taiwanese girl group 7 Flowers debut the following year.

Joe made a name for herself in 2005's The Prince Who Turns a Frog (2005). The drama attained a peak rating of 8.05, dethroning Meteor Garden's previous record of 8.05 to become the highest rated Taiwanese idol drama.

Joe started hosting numerous Taiwanese variety shows from 2006 to 2007, including Treasure Hunter and Stylish Man – The Chef. She appeared in the dramas A Game About Love and Ying Ye 3 Jia 1.

Joe appeared in Fated to Love You opposite Ethan Juan in 2008, beating Joe's previous drama, The Prince Who Turns Into a Frog, to become Taiwan's highest-rated idol drama. The drama also gained traction in overseas markets, and was covered by America's Wall Street Journal. At the 43rd Golden Bell Awards, Joe was nominated for Best Actress in a TV Series, and Taipei Times named him "Queen of Idol Dramas."
