Amy Lee (born May 30, 1989), known professionally as Ailee, is a Korean-American singer and songwriter based in South Korea. Before her K-pop debut, Ailee was signed under Muzo Entertainment in America.

She moved to South Korea in 2010, where she passed an audition and became an artist for YMC Entertainment.

After being recognized for her singing on Singer and Trainee, she started acting on the KBS drama series Dream High 2.

Ailee received the Best New Artist Award at the Melon Music Awards, Golden Disc Awards, Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards and the Seoul Music Awards.

She has also received a Best Newcomer and Four Best Female Vocal Performance awards at the Mnet Asian Music Awards for "U&I", "Singing Got Better", "Mind Your Own Business" and "If You".

Life and career

Ailee was born in Denver, Colorado, on May 30, 1989, and grew up in New Jersey. She attended Palisades Park High School before transferring to Leonia, a nearby suburb. She studied communications at Pace University before going out of her way to pursue a career in music after her Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School graduation. Ailee was signed by Muzo Entertainment, a New York and New Jersey-based independent agency, before her K-pop debut. She worked with many musicians, including Johnnyphlo and Philadelphia-based rapper Decipher, under the Decipher brand. Ailee created the YouTube channels "mzamyx3" and "aileemusic" to draw attention to her singing on the internet before heading to South Korea.

Ailee immigrated to South Korea in 2010 after she landed a music label audition through her uncle's connections. At the audition, she sang "Resignation" by Big Mama and was hired by YMC Entertainment on the spot. During her preparations, YMC sang of her name, "They Are Coming," the label's Wheesung song, which was released in October 2011. In addition, she appeared in Decipher and Jay Park's "Catch Me If You Can." On the MBC's Chuseok special episode of Singer and Trainee in September 2011, Ailee and Wheesung were included. To a cheering reaction from the audience, Ailee performed "Halo" by Beyoncé. "Wherever she goes, she has the potential to be a major actress," judge BMK said on "Halo." She has the voice," she says. Ailee was the first-place winner after the judges had rated all the participants.

Ailee released her debut single "Heaven" on February 9, 2012, as well as the music video, which featured Gi Kwang of Beast. "Heaven" was her debut stage appearance on M Countdown on the same day. "Ailee's debut single, she showed that she had the ability to relate the deeper feelings of love beyond her years." Ailee's companion shielded her and taught her how to love in a harsh world in this dedication program." Ailee was able to win her first award at the 2012 Cyworld Digital Music Awards as a result of the single's popularity. Ailee's debut EP, Invitation, was released on October 16, 2012, with the title track "I Will Show You". There were six tracks on the EP. It was created by producers including Kim Do-hoon, Lee Hyun-seung, Park Guen-tae, Duble Sidekick, Wheesung, and several notable artists such as Verbal Jint, Swings, and Simon Dominic.

Ailee was named Best New Artist at the Seoul Music Awards, Melon Music Awards, Mnet Asian Music Awards, and Golden Disk Awards in 2012, as well as the Best Female Solo Artist Award at the Gaon Chart Music Awards. She has also received the Mnet America Rising Star Award, a special award given by Mnet America at the pre-show of 55th Grammy Awards.

Ailee's Doll House, Ailee's second Ep, was released on July 12, 2013. Within four hours of its debut, the EP's title track, "U&I," topped several music charts.

Ailee made her Japanese debut with the Japanese-version of "Heaven" and "Starlight" under Warner Music Japan on November 6, 2013.

Ailee produced "Singing Got Better" on January 6, 2014. After being released on various music charts, the song topped the top charts. At the 2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards, the single has received the Best Vocal Performance.

Ailee released her third EP, titled Magazine, on September 25, 2014. "Don't Touch Me" by the EP's title track debuted on top of the charts when it was announced. At the 2015 Golden Disc Awards, the single received the Digital Bonsang Award.

Ailee will hold a solo concert three years after wrapping up her joint Unite the Mic Tour with Jay Park and San E in Toronto in March 2015. Fatal Attraction, her first solo performance, was held at the Olympic Hall on July 4, 2015. Ailee was on stage several times by various artists who assisted her in singing her numerous duets and collaborations. With Cheetah, "Wash Away" and "Officially Missing You," she sang "Shut Up" and "Touch My Body" with Shin Bo-ra, "Touch My Body," and "Weight My Body" and "Let"s Go Travel with Shin Bo-ra.

Vivid, Ailee's first full-length album, was unveiled on September 30, 2015. On October 7, 2015, she was named Show Champion for her first appearance in this division. "Mind Your Own Business" was named the Best Female Vocal Award at the Mnet Asian Music Awards for the third year in a row.

Ailee was confirmed as a judge on Superstar K 2016 on July 13, 2016.

Ailee released her single "If You" on August 23, 2016, which then topped the Gaon Weekly Chart for Digital Downloads.

Ailee's EP A New Empire, as well as the music video for "Home" which was officially announced on LOEN and YMC Entertainment's official YouTube channel, appeared on October 5, 2016. On the Gaon Album Chart, a New Empire reached number ten on the Gaon Album Chart and number nine on the US World Albums Chart, and on the US World Albums Chart.

Ailee was voted Best Vocal Performance at the 2016 Mnet Asian Music Awards on December 2, 2016, this time for "If You," a record-breaking fourth consecutive win in the category.

Ailee released her debut American single "Fall Back" on WestSide Entertainment under the alias A.Leean on January 7, 2017. On the same day as part nine of a series made of singles for South Korean cable television series Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, she also performed "I Will Go to You Like the First Snow" ( ) ( ). For three weeks in a row, the single topped the Gaon Digital Chart. At the 2017 Korea Cable TV Awards, Ailee received the Best OST Award. Several awards have been given to the soundtrack, including the best original soundtrack award at the Seoul International Drama Festival, the Mnet Asian Music Awards, the Melon Music Awards, the Seoul Music Awards, and the Golden Disc Awards.

On December 24–25, 2016, Ailee held two Christmas concerts in Seoul titled Welcome Home at Kyunghee University's Grand Peace Palace. Due to the success of the shows, Ailee will be staging her first national tour, titled Welcome Home Tour, which opened in Daegu on April 1, 2017. Ailee, Ailee's first solo concert in Taiwan, took place in The City Hall at Taipei International Convention Center on June 25, 2017. Ailee performed two concerts at the Pechanga Theater in California on November 18, 19, selling out a total of 2,600 tickets.

At the closing ceremony of the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games at the Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium, Ailee performed "I Will Show You" on March 18, 2018. Ailee was selected as a member of the South Korean cultural delegation for the third inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang, North Korea, where she performed her OST "I Will Go to You Like the First Snow" on September 14, 2018. Ailee, Ailee, was the second national tour for Ailee, Ailee's second.

Ailee's second studio album, Butterfly, was released on July 2, 2019, with the lead single "Room Shaker." Ailee announced on Instagram on September 10, 2019, after being a part of YMC Entertainment for eight years.

Ailee's first English language single under American label Sun and Sky Records was released on December 13, 2019. Billboard called the single "sweeper" "a heart-wrenching ballad."

On October 6, 2020, Ailee performed her fifth extended play titled I'm, as the lead single "When We Were In Love" appeared. Will Kim, the music video, was released on October 12, 2020 and was directed by Will Kim. Ailee, a songwriter from Ailee, announced "Blue Bird," an OST that would be included in the South Korean drama Start-Up's number nine.

Ailee's sixth extended play, Lovin', was released on May 7, 2021, ahead of her third studio album's debut. "Make Up Your Mind" and "Spring Flowers" are two lead singles from the extended play.

Ailee Ailee became the first official artist for The L1ve on July 22, 2021.

It was announced on October 14, 2021, that Ailee would debut her third studio album Amy, as the lead single "Don't Teach Me."

Ailee's I'm Lovin' Amy was released on March 7, 2022.

Ailee's deal with The L1ve came to an end in July 2022.
