Vivian Hsu Career

Career

Hsu's career in entertainment began after winning first place in a Taiwan-based "Talented Beautiful Girl" competition in 1990. At that point, she was serving food on her bicycle, and her clients began to recognize her from her television appearances. "Girls' Team" was a musical group she joined the same year (). In 1991 and 1992, the band released two albums before giving up. Hsu began modeling right after this.

In two photobooks titled Angel () and Venus, she appeared as a model. Angel, who was born in 1995, was shot in Capri and Sicily. Venus, a 1996 publication, was shot in Mexico and had separate runs in Taiwan and Japan.

When she was featured on the front of two books (the Japanese edition) and the more limited-distribution Hong Kong version), Hsu's modeling career hit its peak in July 1996. Both these items, as well as the photobooks, have become highly coveted among collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Hsu has continued to model for designers like Hang Ten, Gucci, and Mode Marie, and she has appeared in all three of her short, autobiographical books: Earth Onigiri (2001), Privacy (2001, ISBN 4-88745-060-5), and Wo Ai Taiwan (2002). In addition, the majority of her musical collections feature new modelling work.

Hsu has appeared in a number of films and television shows both in China and Japan. She appeared in the ambitious 2006 mainland China-Taiwan-Hong Kong collaboration The Knot, a romance film that takes place between the CCP's takeover of mainland China and the present. Shaolin Popey (1994), a comedy film that became a box office hit in Taiwan and Hong Kong, was her debut film. She also has some experience as a voice actress, having performed Aisha in three episodes of Gundam SEED.

In addition, Hsu appeared in three Hong Kong motion pictures, Hunting List, Devil Angel, and Angel Heart. She appeared in the 2001 film The Accidental Spy with Jackie Chan. In Love Storm (2003), she appeared as Chao Jiale, alongside Vic Chou and Ken Chu. Decide to Love You (), her debut as a solo in 2003, also composed and performed the opening theme for this series, Decide to Love You (). She appears in commercials and as a spokesperson for various causes, as with many actors and actresses. In 2006, Hsu appeared in the film The Shoe Fairy of Do Do Do Do Do, a modern fairy tale.

She has been featured in television commercials for the aesthetic salon Slim Beauty House and Kao's Essential hair care brand line as one of the three newfaces alongside Yuriko Yoshitaka and Nozomi Sasaki since 2010.

In 1995, Hsu released her first solo single. In 1996, she released Tianshi Xiang (), her first full-length album. She undertook a speed course in Korean and debuted Cheonsa Misonyeo, a Korean version of the album. () Both of Hsu's first two albums were performed in her native language, which was surprising.

She appeared in the Black Biscuits' 1997, with two Japanese comedians, Khyoya Nanami and Amazan, and then with a second female vocalist named 'Keddy.' The group was initially established as a "rival band" for the Japanese music company Pocket Biscuits, which was the originator of the Japanese variety show Utchan Nanchan no UriNari. Life is a series of hit singles and a full-length album, which appeared between 1997 and 1999. In 1998, Timing's single CD Timing saw 1.5 million sales. In 1998, they were active in Khaku Uta Gassen.

They failed to fulfill one of the organization's goals set forth by the variety show, which culminated in the disbanding of Black Biscuits.

Hsu also released two more solo albums: Da Mafan (1998) in 1998 and Bubai de Lianren (1998) in 1999. In 2000, she followed Bubai de Lianren in a Japanese translation, Fuhai no Koibito.

Jiaban de Tianshi, her second album, came later this year. ()

With Masahide Sakuhashiki, Hata Yashiki, Masami Tsuchiya, and Mick Karn, she founded The d.e.p in 2001. The band was short lived: by the year's end, they had released all the songs they ever would have. We Are the d.e.p. This amounted to two singles and a full album.

She released a few more singles over the next two years, including, alongside Kazuma Endo of Siam Shade, Moment, the second opening theme to Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, followed in 2003 by her new solo album, The Secret to Happiness Is Love. Hen Hen Ai (), her last album, was released in April 2005. Vivi and... is her most recent album, and it was released in September 2006. Hsu's album was produced by many musicians and individuals, including Jay Chou, Wang Leehom, Gary Cao, Nicky Lee, and even her little brother and uncle.

On March 3, 2010, Hsu returned to Japan after a seven-year absence to debut her new single Beautiful Day.

Hsu's music, especially in her later years, covers a wide variety of genres. Slow love songs, R&B, hard rock, and of course J-pop are among the list of slow love songs, R&B, hard rock, and of course J-pop. She's even dabbled in rap. She is a versatile artist thanks to her fluency in Mandarin, Cantonese, and Japanese.

Hsu is also an excellent lyricist. When she performed several songs for Taiwan's R&B singer-songwriter Jay Chou, her lyric-writing abilities first caught serious attention. Hsu's debut by a proving that she is not simply another pretty model, but also a very gifted artist, delighted both her reviewers and adoring followers. After his triumphant self-titled debut, she continued to perform on her second and third albums as well as co-wrote songs for other pop stars, such as Leehom Wang, Vanness Wu, Show Lo and Gigi Leung. Her lyric writing has been lauded for its ingenuity and clear simplicity.
