Adrienne Reese, an American professional wrestler who has signed to WWE under the ring name Ember Moon, where she appears on the SmackDown brand. Moon competed on the independent circuit under the banner Athena, competed for titles including Shimmer Women Athletes, Women Superstars Uncensored, Inspire Pro Wrestling, and Anarchy Championship Wrestling, for which she is a three-time ACW American Joshi champion.

Moon competed in WWE's NXT, where she was crowned NXT Women's Champion before her main roster debut.

Early life

On August 31, 1988, Reese was born in Garland, Texas. She attended Lakeview Centennial High School, where she competed in tennis and softball as well as in the school's chess club and the mathlete program. Reese was uninhibitedly bullied by her peers for her passions in video games and wrestling during her time in high school.

When Reese was a younger child, she was introduced to wrestling by her grandfather on his visits to his house in the summer when watching WWF's Raw is War or SmackDown!

Personal life

Matthew Palmer, a fellow professional wrestler, is married to Reese. She is a huge fan of comic books and the 1960s Batman television series starring Adam West. Reese cited Eddie Guerrero, Victoria, Trish Stratus, Lita, Taka Michinoku, Funaki, Rikishi, Too Cool, Kurt Angle, and Beth Phoenix as her influences.

Professional wrestling career

Reese was introduced to competitive wrestling by her grandfather, and she began training under Skandor Akbar in April 2007. She later trained at Booker T's Pro Wrestling Alliance (now called Reality of Wrestling) in Houston, Texas, and began fighting for the position under the ring name Trouble in 2007. On November 10, 2007, she debuted for Professional Championship Wrestling (PCW), partnering with Mace Malone in a losing effort to Claudia and Mike Foxx under the ring name Athena. Jerome Daniels and Nobe Bryant defeated the PCW Tag Team Champions for the title on May 17, with partner Brandon Collins, who began wrestling regularly for PCW in early 2008.

Athena has competed for other Texas-based tournaments, most notably Anarchy Championship Wrestling (ACW), headquartered in Austin. Rachel Summerlyn was vying for the ACW American Joshi Championship on February 21, 2010, but she failed to win. Lillie Mae competed in a three-way match on May 29 after beating Summerlyn to win the American Joshi Championship. She defeated Malia Hosaka on June 12, a first attack on Malia Hosaka. Athena kept the championship against Mae the next day, but Summerlyn took it later. Perez, Amanda Fox, and Jen-Alise were among Perez's nineteen girls who failed to win the championship from Portia Perez on September 19 and then lost again on February 10 in a four-way match that also involved Perez, Amanda Fox, and Jen-Alise. Amanda Fox defeated Angel Blue in the first round, but Rachel Summerlyn defeated her in the finals in June 2011. Athena defeated Lady Poison for the second time on September 18, the American Joshi Championships were won by Athena. In a four-way match against Barbi Hayden, Lillie Mae, and Portia Perez on October 23, she retained the title against Barbi Hayden, Lillie Mae, and Portia Perez, and Portia Perez, and Portia Perez, she then went on to defeat Mae and Jessica James to hold the title on November 4. She retained the title in a six-way match on November 6 and December 11, respectively. Athena lost the championship to Angel Blue on January 15, 2012. She won the 2012 ACW Queen of Queens tournament in June, defeating Su Yung in the first round, Christina Von Eerie in the semifinals, and Jessicka Havok in the final to win the tournament. On September 11, 2010, Athena debuted in the all-female, Illinois-based promotion Shimmer Women Athletes at Volume 33, teaming with Bonesaw in a losing effort to Jessica James and Rachel Summerlyn. Athena lost to Tenille at Volume 34, and Nevaeh at Volume 36, over the next two days.

On October 1, 2011, she returned to Shimmer, defeating Jessie McKay and Mia Yim in a three-way match. She took her first appearance at Volume 43 and defeated Mercedes Martinez on a double count-out, and was disqualified at Volume 44. She defeated Martinez by pinfall at Volume 45, then went on to defeat Sassy Stephie at Volume 47, and Ray at Volume 48. Athena was unsuccessfully defeated Saraya Knight for the Shimmer Championship at Volume 49 in October. She defeated Tomoka Nakagawa at Volume 50. She defeated Taylor Made on Volume 55, and Kimber Lee was defeated by Kimber Lee at Volume 57. Athena defeated Candice LeRae at Volume 62. She defeated Cherry Bomb and Kay Lee Ray at Volume 64. Athena defeated the Madison Eagles, Cheerleader Melissa, and Nicole Matthews in the Shimmer Championship, which was won by Matthews in the main event of Volume 68. In a two out of three falls series, she defeated Mia Yim.

Athena debuted for Women Superstars Uncensored (WSU) at WSU on January 11, 2011, losing to Niya. She returned to WSU on March 5 for their 4th Anniversary Exhibition, defeating Leva Bates. She defeated Bates once more at their 5th anniversary show on March 5, 2012. Athena advanced to the 2012 J-Cup Tournament in the first round and defeated Kimber Lee in the first round, but lost to Brittney Savage in the finals. WSU Y.O.L.O. Rain on April 28, she lost to Rain. She failed to win the WSU Championship from Jessicka Havok at WSU An Ultraviolent Affair on February 9, 2013.

Athena and A. R. Fox teamed up in the first round of the 2013 WSU King and Queen of the Ring tournament, beating Ezavel Suena and Latin Dragon in the first round, and Addy Starr and Matt Tremont in the second round advanced to the finals, where they defeated Drew Gulak and Kimber Lee. Athena returned to WSU on February 7, 2014, defeating Hania the Howling Huntress after a hiatus due to injury. She lost to LuFisto in a WSU Championship number one contender's match the following day. Athena defeated Hania the Howling Huntress in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match on February 21, 2015. She defeated Niya on May 9, 2015 to become the top contender in the WSU Spirit Championship.

On March 16, 2012, Athena debuted for All American Wrestling (AAW), teaming with Christina Von Eerie and MsChif to defeat Sara Del Rey, Portia Perez, and Nicole Matthews' team. Athena defeated Sassy Stephie at the Absolute Intense Wrestling (AIW) tournament. On November 3, she competed for the Canadian promotion, NCW Femmes Fatales, defeating Cheerleader Melissa and Angie Skye to gain a spot in the NCW Femmes Fatales Championship later that night, when she lost to defending champion Kalamity. On November 16, Athena made her debut for Shine Wrestling at the SHINE 5 iPPV, defeating Ivelisse Vélez. In February 2013, she made her Ring of Honor (ROH) debut, losing to MsChif. She defeated Kimber Lee in a Climb the Rank qualifying match and lost a four-way match to Veda Scott later that night. In a four-way match, she returned to ROH on April 6, defeating Cherry Bomb, MsChif, and Scarlett Bordeaux. Barbi Hayden was defeated by ROH in the Heart of Texas on June 1, according to her. On July 11, she defeated MsChif but lost in a four-way match to Reclamation Night 2 the following night.

Athena defeated Mia Yim on March 12, 2014, at the AIW event Girls Night Out 12. She then defeated Allysin Kay in a no-countout, no disqualification match to win the AIW Women's Championship. She retained the AIW All In championship over Heidi Lovelace on July 26 against Heidi Lovelace. Louis Lyndon was defeated by AIW Battle of the Sexes on the same day. Athena's 14th birthday, she defended and retained the title against Veda Scott, as well as the ACW's match against KC Warfield and Paige Turner on October 12. She held the title in a four-way match that also featured Veda Scott, Candice LeRae, and Mickie James on April 24, 2015. Heidi Lovelace lost the championship at AIW Faith No More on September 11.

Reese signed a WWE deal in September 2015 and was transferred to their NXT developmental region. On October 10 in a tag team match, she made her in-ring debut at an NXT house show. She defeated Peyton Royce in a dark match under her new ring name, Ember Moon, on June 8, 2016. Moon made her television debut at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II after a string of introductory vignettes, defeating Billie Kay. Ember Moon continued winning streaks in tag team and singles matches until losing to NXT Women's Champion Asuka in Orlando on April 1. After being thrown out of the ring by Asuka, Moon suffered a shoulder injury and was unable to participate in a non-weight match for the NXT Women's Championship in Chicago; the match was then renamed to a triple threat match between Asuka, Nikki Cross, and Ruby Riott.

Moon defeated Peyton Royce on June 21 on NXT's June 21 episode. The NXT Women's Championship was defeated by Asuka on August 19 in Brooklyn III. As a result of an injury, Asuka was forced to withdraw from the NXT Women's Championship in August. Moon defeated Royce, Nikki Cross, and Kairi Sane in a thrilling four-way match on November 18, defeating Royce, Nikki Cross, and Kairi Sane. Asuka then made a surprise appearance and handed over the title to Moon. Moon defended her title against Sonya Deville on the December 27 episode of NXT. Moon was confronted by Kairi Sane, who was then confronted by Shayna Baszler, who had to retaliate after the match. Despite being injured with a (kayfabe) arm injury, Moon retained her position against Baszler in Philadelphia. She appeared in the first women's Royal Rumble match at the 2018 Royal Rumble on Saturday night. She debuted at #23 and was disqualified by Asuka, the eventual winner. Moon made her official main roster debut on April 9, 2018, partnering with Raw Women's Champion Nia Jax to defeat Alexa Bliss and Mickie James, right away after WrestleMania 34. She participated in the Money in the Bank ladder competition but failed to win the briefcase. She appeared in a royal battle at WWE Evolution and was the last participant disqualified by Nia Jax.

Moon appeared in the women's Royal Rumble tournament in 2019, rising to number six and lasting 52 minutes before being eliminated by Alexa Bliss. She suffered an injured elbow that required surgery, keeping her out of play during the match. She recovered from WrestleMania 35 in the WrestleMania Women's Battle Royal, from which she was defeated by Lana. Moon was moved to the SmackDown brand during the 2019 WWE Superstar Shake-Up. Moon feuded with Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, who mocked her throughout June and July. Moon teamed up with SmackDown Women's Champion Bayley to defeat Rose and Deville on the July 16 episode, breaking the feud after losing singles matches to both Deville and Rose on June 25 and July 2 episodes of SmackDown. Bayley selected Moon as her replacement for SummerSlam after the match. Moon won the game and began a losing streak in five straight televised matches. Moon would recover an ankle injury in the 2019 WWE Draft, but she was not in any of the draft pools in October. She appeared on WWE Backstage as an analyst on November 19 and announced that she would be out of action for an indefinite period of time.

Vignettes promoting a elusive figure on a motorcycle appeared on NXT for the first week in September 2020. The mystery figure took off her helmet and it turned out to be Moon, who made her return to NXT TakeOver 31. Following Io Shirai's resurgent defense of the NXT Women's Championship against Candice LeRae, she appeared on the champion while still smiling with her. Ember will join Team Shotzi with Shotzi Blackheart on November 28, 2020. Moon will compete with Blackheart and wrestle in the first ever women's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, where the pair defeated Dakota Kai and Raquel González in the finals. Kai and González were defeated by NXT Women's Tag Team Championship on March 10, defeating them to win the tag team titles. They kept the titles against The Way (Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell) at NXT Takeover: Stand & Deliver. Blackheart and Moon's titles were changed to The Way in a Street Fight on May 4th, bringing an end to the characters' tenure at 55 days. Takeover at NXT: Moon beat Raquel González for the NXT Women's Championship in Your House, but she was disqualified. Kay Lee Ray was defeated by Kay Lee Ray on an episode of NXT Ember Moon. Reese and several other celebrities were recalled from her position on November 4 and subsequent others, bringing an end to the company's six-year tenure.

Thunder Rosa will face Thunder Rosa for the Warrior Wrestling Women's Championship on February 12, with Reese now going by her old ring name Athena. Rosa retained the title after the two wrestled to a 30-minute draw at the tournament.

On May 29, 2022 at Double or Nothing, Athena made her first All Elite Wrestling appearance on May 29, 2022. Anna Jay and Kris Statlander came to the assistance of Jade Cargill at the end of Jade Cargill's match. Athena fought in her debut AEW match against Kiera Hogan on June 3, 2022, beating by pinfall.
