Clara Cristina Leite Inácio Pedreira (born 10 July 1980) is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, investor, and television presenter.

She came to prominence in late 2002 as the lead vocalist of Babado Novo, Axé's music group.

Leitte commenced a solo career in Brazil and five gold and platinum albums from 2003 to 2007, a crowd of over a million people.

The album was released with gold and triple platinum awards, establishing the singer as one of Brazil's best actors.

"Exttravasa," the album's lead single, debuted at number one on the Brazilian charts, becoming one of the year's best-selling singles in addition to top radio airplays.

Leitte's first studio album As Máscaras debuted on Billboard's Brazilian Albums chart in 2010 and gained her a Latin Grammy Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album nomination.

She appeared on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter combined, as one of Brazil and Latin America's most influential and popular female artists, earning more than 10 million followers and being the recipient of many awards, including a Latin Grammy and three World Music Awards nominations for 2014 alone.

In addition to her musical career, she has served as both a mentor and coach on the Brazilian version of television show The Voice and its children spinoff.

Early life

Cristina Leite Inácio was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Ilna Leite and Cláudio Inácio. Her family was born in So Paulo and visiting So Gonçalo at the time of her independance. Her family moved to Salvador, Bahia, her mother's hometown, within five days of Leitte's birth. Cláudio Junior, she has one younger brother.

Leitte started out as a kids party entertainer. She was enrolled in her neighborhood church's faith classes when she was still attending high school at the time. Leitte would often skip church to attend dance and acting lessons. She attempted law school, communications, and music at college before finding herself a full-time professional singer, but she had to drop out at a later date. She'll go to college in the morning and go to bars and festivals for small singing gigs at night. Her family was not initially supportive of her artistic aspirations at first, but they changed their minds after a time of financial hardship in which Leitte's work became a significant figure to the family's finances. Leitte's career began later in life as a support vocal for local singer Nando Borges.

She worked in a variety of organisations before founding and making a name for herself in Babado Novo, including guitarist and songwriter Sérgio Rocha, who went on to be Babado Novo's musical director and a large portion of Leitte's solo career.

Personal life

Leitte had a friendship with Jammil e Uma Noites bandmember Manno Góes, which ended after two years in 2005. Márcio Pedreira, her teen crush, was born not long after, and she married him on March 7, 2007. Davi Leite Inácio Pedreira, a boy who was born in Salvador, Bahia, on January 20, 2009, causing controversies after Leitte returned to work and appeared in Carnival just a month after giving birth to her first child. Via C-section, the couple welcomed a second child, Rafael, who was born on August 15th. Leitte, a girl named Bela, confirmed she was pregnant with her third child on February 3, 2019.

After an unsuccessful forays into other genres and rhythms, Leitte and his Nata do Samba bandmate Sérgio Rocha formed a Salvador-based Axé band in November 2001. They selected Babado Novo, Alan Moraes, Luciano Pinto, Nino Balla, and Durval Luz to join them. Cal Adan, a highly successful company who also managed É Tchan, was in charge of them. The group's first indie hit, "Cai Fora," earned the group the boost it needed, earning the group a deal with Universal and Poly Music that saw their debut self-titled album in 2003. They gained their first gold medal recognition, after selling over 500,000 copies up to that year. "Eu Fico," "Canudinho," "Amor à Prova," Roberto Carlos' "Amor Perfeito," a reimagination of Led Zeppelin's "Dyer Maker" and title track "Babado Novo" were also included on the album, as well as hit singles "Eu Fico," "Canudinho," "Amor à Prova" a hit single and title track "Ba These songs are regarded as classics of 2003's Carnival festivities.

The band's second album was released on December 3, 2003. "Safado, Cachorro, Sem-vergonha," "Lirirrixa," "Fulano in Sala," "Fulando Sério," "Uau," "Safado," "Pulano in Sala," "Quelando Sério," and "Uau" are among the album's five hit singles. The latter was also the lead singer on the band's third album and video release Uau! On December 21, 2004, Ao Vivo em Salvador was born. The record was sold over 400,000 copies. Babado Novo performed in the United States for the first time this year, in New Jersey and Massachusetts, before heading to Tokyo, Japan. "Doce Desejo," Uau's second single, was released in 2005. The third and fourth singles were followed by Ao Vivo em Salvador, "Caranguejo" and "Me Chama de Amor."

Babado Novo's lead single from their new album, "Bola de Sabo," was released on December 10, 2005. The song climbed to the top of the Brazilian charts and in a short time it will become the group's most popular song to date. It appears in the 2006 Mexican-Brazilian film Only God Knows, starring Alice Braga and Diego Luna. The band's first studio album, O Diório de Claudinha, was released on December 30, 2005, and the band's first studio album, which sold over 120,000 copies in the first weeks of sales. The song "Despenteia" was included in an advertisement campaign for Seda's hair beauty products, and "Piriripiti" was selected as part of Cobras & Lagartos' soundtrack. "A Camisa e o Boto," the band's final single "A Camisa e o Boto" was another hit song for the band. On Times Square, Babado Novo, the headliner of 2006's New York City Brazilian Day, was on display for a crowd of 2,5 million people.

"Insolaço do Coraço" was released in January 2007. The album was the first single from the band's fifth and final album Ver-te Mar, which was recorded live in Salvador, Bahia, and released on February 16th, 2007. Both "Doce Paix" and "Pensando em Você" were released as singles shortly after. At the 2007 MTV Video Music Brasil for Hottie of the Year, Leitte received a VMB award.

Leitte revealed in late 2007 that she would leave the brand she helped create to become a solo act after selling over 5 million albums and spawning many chart-topping hits as part of Babado Novo, bringing her bandmates with her.

Leitte's solo debut single "Exttravasa" was released on December 18, 2007. The album was the most executed song on radio for the year 2008, earning her a double diamond record award. The song has more than million digital downloads. She appeared in Babado Novo for the last time on February 5, 2008. With a live concert recording at Copacabana Beach on February 17, the singer began her solo career. Gabriel o Pensador, Carlinhos Brown, Badau, Daniela Mercury, and Wando were all invited as special guests and applauded by a crowd of over a million people. A ballad titled "Pássaros," was released on April 22, 2008, the album's second single. On July 4, 2008, Leitte's debut solo album, Ao Vivo Copacabana, was released. She began her first official tour as a solo artist on the Exttravasa Tour on the same day. The tour had sold out dates in Brazil and Europe, with shows in London and Lisbon among others.

Ao Vivo em Copacabana's home video premiere took place on August 11, 2008, resulting in over 500,000 copies being sold. "Beijar na Boca," the album's third single, was released on November 25, 2008. "Horizonte," the album's fourth and final single, was released on May 24th, 2009. A fan wrote the song specifically for Leitte.

Leitte became the face of hair color and dye for beauty company Niely during the year. She also signed an endorsement contract with AmBev to be Guaraná Antarctica's spokeswoman, and later for SKY Brasil. On November 22, 2009, she unveiled Jehovi, Elo, her first fragrance.

Leitte went from two other smaller tours, the 15-date Beija Eu Tour, and the Sette Tour, which went from 2 July 2009 to 22 January 2010, all dates.

Leitte debuted "As Máscaras (Se Deixa Levar)", the lead single from her second album, As Máscaras, after inking a contract with Sony Music. During that year's Salvador Summer Festival, Leitte performed with Akon in February 2010. Leitte's entry into the Guinness Book of World Records for promoting the largest group of kissing people in history on April 10, 2010. During her 2009 Axé Brasil appearance, the world record was established after over 8,372 couples kissed at the same time to the sound of Leitte's "Beijar na Boca" from her Leitte debut during her 2009 Axé Brasil appearance. Leitte headlined Miami's Brazilian Day at Bayfront Park in the same month, drawing over 320,000 people. As Máscaras was announced on May 23, 2010, with mixed feedback, including Travie McCoy's appearance in a new spin on his own song Billionaire), comparisons with Ivete Sangalo emerged. Leitte embarked on Rhytmos, a 53-date tour, beginning on July 3rd. The record was nominated for a 2010 Latin Grammy Award in the category of Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album, but it was disqualified by Sérgio Mendes' Bom Tempo. Leitte launched a self-titled fragrance on October 22, 2010, her second one in less than a decade, Claudia Leitte Intense relaunched. Leitte charted on Billboard's annual Next Big Sound Music Chart in sixth place on December 18th.

Leitte was invited by Walt Disney Pictures to perform Carla Veloso, a racing car that Lightning McQueen and Lewis Hamilton were on to perform at the World Grand Prix opening party in Brazil's Cars 2 motion picture Cars 2. Leitte, Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Elton John appeared on the Rock in Rio music festival stage for the first time in September 2011. About two billion viewers, she appeared live on "Locomotion Batucada" during the Miss Universe 2011 pageant in So Paulo and was broadcast in 190 countries in the same month. She appeared in Ricky Martin's "Samba" for the international repackage of the album Msica + Alma + Sexo (2011) and was also included in the album's accompanying music video.

Leitte's last name was Som Livre in January 2012, putting an end to her Sony Music relationship, which she had only released one studio album. In May of the same year, she was a guest host on six episodes of GNT's women beauty talk show Superbonita, filling in for regular host Luana Piovani. She was invited to be a mentor on television show The Voice Brasil, along with celebrated singers Lulu Santos, Daniel, and Carlinhos Brown, one of Leitte's most popular collaborators. On September 23, 2012, the show premiered.

On September 29, 2012, Leitte's intimate second live album, Negalora: ntimo, was released shortly. Negalora showcased the singer in a new, romantic musical style, and she was lauded for her ability to reimagine herself without denying her roots. Leitte rediscovered her roots and released "Largadinho," the lead single on a mainstream record, was a commercial hit and also produced its own English version titled "Lazy Groove" and a new mix starring Angolan singer Anselmo Ralph. According to Billboard's World Digital Songs chart, the song ranked at number five. On October 13, 2012, she began the Sambah Tour, travelling through Brazil and Europe in 92 days.

When visiting Leitte in late 2013, co-founder and CEO Jay Brown took notice of her and expressed curiosity in meeting her while on a trip to Africa. Leitte hopped on a plane and the meeting resulted in a collaboration with the company's leadership team with the intention of starting her career in another country.

Leitte's fourth album, Axemusic – Ao Vivo, was released on January 14, 2014, in Recife, Colombia's Arena Perpetu. Within hours of its debut, the album sold out, with over 123,000 copies sold in that year. Wesley Safado, Naldo Benny, Luiz Caldas, Wanessa, and Armandinho were among the special guests in the concert shooting.

In February 2014, it was revealed that Leitte had been speaking with designers Shea Taylor, Timbaland, Kuk Harrell, Rob Persaud, and Rodney Jerkins. She then began recording English-language songs for her debut crossover album, while touring South America, writing and releasing over 30 songs in that time. She appeared in a version of "La Luz," Juanes' main single, Loco de Amor (2014).

Pitbull and FIFA invited Leitte and her partner Jennifer Lopez to represent Brazil in the 2014 FIFA World Cup official song. The result of the collaboration, "We Are One (Ole Ola)," has sold over 5,6 million copies worldwide and was also included in Pitbull's seventh album Globalization (2014). The trio appeared onstage at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards and then at the Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where they were introduced by Leitte's solo interpretation of Ary Barroso's "Aquarela do Brasil" prior to Leitte's solo performance of "Aquarela do Brasil" at the Arena Corinthians. The result helped Leitte gain international prominence, and she spent more than eight weeks on Billboard's Social 50 worldwide ranked.

Leitte revealed in October 2014 that she did not renew her Som Livre contract and that she was moving to Los Angeles to continue working on her new record. Sette, her first extended play under her own name, 2Ts Entretenimento, promised more innovation and commercial independence later this month. The lead single, "Matimba," was the result of a joint venture between Leitte and rappers Big Sean and MC Guimê. "Cartório," a featured singer Luan Santana, was one of Brazil's most popular songs during the Carnival celebrations in 2015.

Leitte premiered "Signs" in an emotional appearance during The Voice Brasil's third series finale on December 26, marking her first venture into the English-speaking market as a solo pop artist. Danny O'Donoghue, Andrew Frampton, Mark Shehan, and Stephen Kipner wrote the song, and it was included on the soundtrack to television soap I Love Paraisópolis. Inês Vergara's music video premiered on July 31, 2015. Leitte introduced Secret, her fourth fragrance, in April 2015. On October 22, 2015, Tidal's newest track, "Shiver Down My Spine," was released solely on Tidal. In collaboration with RMANS, it was her first project connected to Roc Nation and also her first English composition. In the 2015 sequel to the film S.O.S., the song was included. Mulheres is a version of the Haja Coraço soap from Mar and 2016.

On December 17, 2015, Leitte debuted "Corazón," a Puerto Rican singer Daddy Yankee. According to reports, the song will be included on her forthcoming album, which is expected to include songs in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, and is likely to appear in a series of singles. Leitte revealed the debut of Chic, her fifth fragrance, a decade later, was followed by her sixth, titled Glam. On November 11, 2016, a new single, "Taquitá," was launched on November 11, 2016, and "Eu Gosto," a Dennis DJ's Professor da Malandragem (2017) song, was available through Carnival through February 2017. On August 4, 2017, "Baldin de Gelo" was released, combining elements Leitte learned in Brazil and the United States over the past years, as well as Spanish and Portuguese lyrics and reggaeton influences. Both "Taquitá" and "Baldin de Gelo" were awarded gold in the United States. Leitte was replaced by Ivete Sangalo for the sixth season after Leitte was promoting her new musical ventures at the conclusion of the fifth season of The Voice Brasil in December 2016. Allerdings, Leitte and Sangalo changed roles and became a mentor during the third season of The Voice Kids, which is set to premiere in January 2018. Leitte revealed on January 26, 2018, the same month Leitte revealed that she'll be releasing "Carnaval," a new single starring American rapper Pitbull.
