Ivete Sangalo Career

Life and career

Ivete Sangalo was born in Juazeiro, Bahia, where she spent her childhood. She is of paternal Spanish descent (her grandfather was born in Spain). She began singing in high school and then started singing in bars. She began to be noticed and was signed to Sony Music. In 1993, Sony decided to resurrect Axé group Banda Eva, and she was chosen as the lead singer. Banda Eva Ao Vivo's live album was the band's best-selling album, selling over a million copies. She began writing in 1997 and released her first album in 1999. The album received gold and platinum status for its upbeat Bahian rhythms and axé. Beat Beleza, which later gained platinum status, was released the following year.

In 2000, she appeared on the album Festa, whose title track was another hit. The single was extremely popular, and the album received platinum status. "Festa" was her best single up to that point, and the show received a lot of airplay. In Brazil, "Festa" was the most famous song of the year 2001. Its music video featured 20 cameo appearances by Brazilian artists. Se Eu Nombre Tanto Assim, a 2002 debut by a woman, was the first one in the singles chart to debut. The album, which features a duet with American singer Brian McKnight, didn't sell as well as her previous albums, but it was still a hit. She founded Clube Carnavalesco Innocentes Em Progresso in 2003, following Se Se Eu N'o Assim. It was the lowest-selling solo album of her career, but it also received gold status.

MTV Live: Ivete Sangalo (2004) was her first hit on television, with few others on a live album before, and there were some Banda Eva hits. The album attracted a following, with many of them due to the single "Sorte Grande" being renamed "Poeira" by the public and becoming a big hit in bars, as well as in soccer stadiums (where it was used to cheer soccer teams). The song gained a lot of airplay in Brazil, and it was also included in the Fifa 2005 videogame's soundtrack. The album received diamond status and was the second best-selling album of 2004. The DVD, which featured the concert at the Fonte Nova stadium, was certified 3x Diamond, has sold over 600,000 copies, and it was the country's best-selling musical DVD in 2005 (and the best-selling musical DVD in the second half of 2005).

Sangalo's Queen Song, released in 2005, made a call to Carmen Miranda in one of her tracks; Miranda grew up in the United States during the first half of the twentieth century and epitomized Latin sensuality in her numerous Hollywood films. When asked if she wants to repeat Miranda's success, Sangalo said, "It would be too pretentious for me to even consider this analog." But I would like to [in] follow Tom Jobim and Caetano Veloso's footsteps. They are Brazilian artists whose reputation is known around the world. For me, it would be more difficult to achieve because I want to perform the kind of music [which] doesn't conform to Brazilian audiences' expectations. "I want people to [respect] my musical style."

As a result of its introduction, her 2005 album, As Supernovas, received triple platinum status shortly after its debut. The album was less upbeat than the others, with some songs with a 1970s touch, with Brazil singer Ed Motta's big influence. "Soy Loco por ti America," a Gilberto Gil song, was also included in her collection. The Sangalo's coverage would be the main theme song of TV Globo's soap opera América, and the song became extremely popular thanks to the tie-in. The Latin Grammy Awards' "Quando a Chuva Passar" was atypical award for a non-Spanish-speaking artist. As Supernovas earned diamond awards, she remained Brazil's best female solo singer.

Due to her outstanding performances on television, TV Globo, Brazil's most popular TV station, has invited her to host Estaço Globo, which airs six episodes per year in late December/early January.

She appeared in the Maracan in Rio de Janeiro, where Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones, Kiss, Police, Rush, RBD, and Madonna appeared on December 16, 2006. In May 2007, the concert was first released as a DVD. This latest one, although MTV Ao Vivo's last live DVD was from the Multishow Ao Vivo brand, was for the new one.

"Sorte Grande" (which was renamed "Poeira") and "Festa" were two of her biggest career hits, as well as "Sorte Grande" (which was sung by crowds at soccer games). Sangalo has sold more than 7,000,000 CDs and more than 1,500,000 DVDs.

Sangalo's final paycheck, R$240,000 ($275,000), is the second highest-paid act in Brazil, according to O Globo. (Roberto Carlos is the most costly, he's asking R$700,000 per concert). The price for special concerts can go up to R$2 million ($1 million).
