Pamela Rose Martinez (born June 15, 1989) is an American professional wrestler currently signed to WWE, where she is the current SmackDown Women's Champion in her second stint with the SmackDown brand under the ring name Bayley. Martinez appeared on the independent circuit prior to her WWE appearance, under the ring name Davina Rose.

After signing with WWE in 2012, she was given the Bayley moniker and she would win the NXT Women's Championship in 2015.

Bayley debuted on the main roster in 2016, became a one-time Raw Women's Tag Team Champion, one-half of the inaugural Women's Tag Team Champions (with Sasha Banks), and a two-time SmackDown Women's Champion.

In addition,, she won the Women's Money in the Bank ladder match in 2019 and then used her championship opportunity to win the SmackDown Women's Championship on the same night. Bayley is the only woman to win the Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and Women's Tag Team Championships, out of a total of five appearances.

Early life

Pamela Rose Martinez was born in San Jose, California, on June 15, 1989, and grew up in a Mexican-American family. She attended Independence High School in San Jose and once served as a captain of the school's basketball team, as well as participating in track and martial arts.

Personal life

Martinez cites Bret Hart, Eddie Guerrero, The Hardy Boyz, Ivory, John Cena, Lita, Rey Mysterio, Randy Savage, The Rock, Trish Stratus, and Victoria as her influences in wrestling.

Martinez was previously engaged to fellow professional wrestler Aaron Solo, whom she first encountered in 2010. The engagement was called off on February 21, 2021.

Professional wrestling career

Martinez had been attending shows by Big Time Wrestling, a professional wrestling promotion in Northern California, since she was 11. Martinez began her professional wrestling career at the age of 18, and one of the reasons why Martinez chose Big Time Wrestling as her home promotion, was attending Big Time Wrestling's training classes. She appeared in September 2008 for the first time in her life. Martinez competed under the ring name Davina Rose on the American independent circuit. From 2008 to 2012, Rose competed for Big Time Wrestling from 2008 to 2012. Rose rose from 2011 to 2012, competing in NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, Pro Wrestling Destination, and Shine Wrestling.

When Rose and her mentor Serena first met together in October 2010 for a tag team match, she first met her mentor Serena. Rose made her Shimmer Women Athletes debut in October 2011. She became embroiled in Serena's rivalry with the Canadian Ninjas at the tapings (Portia Perez and Nicole Matthews). Rose lost all four matches, including her debut match against Mercedes Martinez at the tapings. Rose continued to fight for Shimmer and on Volume 58, defeating Melanie Cruise and Mena Libra for her first victory; on Volumes 51 and 52, she defeated Cherry Bomb and Rhia O'Reilly in Shimmer's first two singles matches.

Martinez joined WWE in December 2012. Martinez made her debut in WWE's expanded territory NXT in January 2013, wrestling under a mask as Luchadora for one match, teaming with Paige and Charlotte to defeat Summer Rae, Audrey Marie and Emma in a six-woman tag team competition. In a loss to Paige on March 20, she adopted the ring name Bayley and made her NXT television debut on a loss to Paige. Bayley lost to Alicia Fox in the first round of the NXT Women's Championship tournament on June 12 in a doe-eyed fangirl. Bayley defeated AJ Lee for the Divas Championship on August 21, failing to defeat him. Bayley and Charlotte defeated Alicia Fox and Aksana on September 4, her first victory. The BFFs, Beautiful, Fierce Females (Sasha Banks and Summer Rae), annoyance of Charlotte's, tried to convince Bayley to join them, but Charlotte retaliated against Bayley during their match against the BFFs on November 13.

After losing to Banks in the first round, Bayley was unable to progress in a tournament for the unmanned NXT Women's Championship on May 1, 2014. Bayley defeated Sasha Banks in a tag team match to become Charlotte's top female NXT Women's Championship, but she was unsuccessful in winning the NXT Takeover: Fatal 4-Way on September 11, a rematch that took place on October 2nd. Bayley was stabbed by her long-fast friend Becky Lynch, who worked with Banks, in mid-October, and the two rivals continued to feud with Banks and Lynch for several weeks. Bayley was assaulted by Banks and Lynch on the November 27 episode, injuring her knee in the storyline. Charlotte was saved from an attack by Banks and Lynch on January 21, 2015, before finally threatening Charlotte herself. TakeOver: Bayley takes over: On October 11, the two rivals met in a crucial four-way match for the NXT Women's Championship, but the team lost the championship.

Bayley started a feud with Emma in March after accusing Bayley of her politeness, implying that it had barred her from winning the NXT Women's Championship. On the April 1 episode, Bayley won a match between the two teams. Bayley was defeated by Dana Brooke on April 29 after Emma distracted them. Emma was stabbed in the following week after her loss to Charlotte, and she retaliated against her. Takeover: On May 20, Bayley and Charlotte defeated Emma and Brooke in an unstoppable match. Bayley lost to Emma on May 27; she and Charlotte were assaulted by her and Brooke after the match. Bayley recovered from a broken hand injury on July 22 episode, defeating Emma and focusing on the NXT Women's Championship, effectively ending their feud.

Bayley defeated Charlotte in August to finish as the top candidate for the NXT Women's Championship. Takeover: Bayley beat Sasha Banks in the NXT Women's Championship on August 22, celebrating with her, Lynch, and Charlotte after the match. Bayley defeated Banks with three falls to two in the first ever women's 30-minute Iron Man match in WWE history, defeating Respect on October 7, ensuring the third fall with three seconds remaining in the match to hold the trophy. Bayley continued to fend off title contenders such as Alexa Bliss, Eva Marie, Nia Jax, and Carmella throughout her championship run.

Bayley won a tag team match on March 16, 2016, and NXT general manager William Regal announced that Bayley would defend her title against Asuka on April 1, where Bayley lost the championship to Asuka, putting an end to her reign at 223 days. Bayley returned to in-ring action on May 18 after being threatened by Nia Jax to a match in which she lost. After being relegated by Jax in NXT TakeOver: The End on June 8 due to a storyline injury that kept her out of contention for the NXT Women's Championship against Asuka, Bayley made her return on June 22, defeating Deonna Purrazzo. Bayley requested Regal for a rematch against Asuka for the NXT Women's Championship on July 27, which he accepted. Bayley lost the title in what was her last match in NXT on August 20, which was her last match in the event.

Bayley made her first roster debut on July 24, defeating Charlotte and Dana Brooke in a one-off appearance as Sasha Banks' mystery tag team partner. She made her official main roster debut on August 22, being introduced as part of Raw global manager Mick Foley and exposing the Raw Women's Champion Charlotte to a championship match; instead, she coerced her protégé Brooke to face her, who Bayley defeated. Bayley lost the championship from Charlotte on September 25, which also included Banks, in a triple threat match at Battle of Champions. Bayley defeated Brooke on October 30, in a Cell at Hell in a Cell. Bayley survived alongside Charlotte Flair as part of Team Raw in the Survivor Series on November 20, but Flair was struck by Flair after the match.

Bayley defeated Jax on January 2, 2017, becoming the top contender in Flair's Raw Women's Championship. Bayley lost the Royal Rumble title to Flair on January 29. On Raw, Sheamus, Cesaro, and Sheamus defeated Flair, Gallows and Anderson, with Bayley winning Flair and Anderson. Bayley won the Raw Women's Championship after an assist from Banks two weeks later on the February 13 episode. Bayley held the title against Charlotte due to a Bankruptcy, which in turn gave Charlotte her her first pay-per-view loss. She retained the title against Charlotte, Banks, and Jax in a critical four-way elimination match at WrestleMania 33 on April 2, retaining the match against Charlotte, Banks, and Jax. Bayley lost the title to Alexa Bliss on April 30, snapping her reign at 76 days. She failed to regain the title in a kendo stick in a pole match on June 4 at Extreme Rules. Bayley became the top contender for the championship after beating Banks and was supposed to face Bliss at SummerSlam in July, but she was unable to function due to a broken shoulder injury. Bayley recovered from her burns on the September 18 episode of Raw to help banks beat Bliss and Jax. She lost in a critical five-way match for the Raw Women's Championship at No Mercy six days later.

Bayley was also a member of Team Raw on Saturday, but Tamina defeated them on a five-on-five elimination tag team match, but was ruled out by Tamina. Bayley, alongside Sasha Banks and Mickie James, began a feud with Absolution (Paige, Mandy Rose, and Sonya Deville) that culminated in several singles and tag team matches, most of which were won by Absolution. Bayley won the inaugural women's Royal Rumble tournament on January 28, 2018, but was disqualified by Banks. On February 25, Bayley was first to qualify in the women's Elimination Chamber competition, where Alexa Bliss was disqualified after Banks forced her out of a pod. Bayley appeared in the inaugural WrestleMania Women's Battle Royal, where she eliminated Banks and was the last woman to be disqualified from the match by Naomi.

After weeks of animosity, including Bayley's betraying Banks during their matches, Bayley and Banks threwled backstage and had to be separated on the March 26 episode of Raw. In mid-April, the two sides clashed, but their match result ended in a no-contest after The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan, and Sarah Logan) interfered and assaulted them both. Bayley and Banks continued to criticize each other throughout mid-February, and were encouraged to attend counseling sessions to help keep their friendship alive. The two people reconciled and formed The Boss 'n' Hug Connection in July.' Bayley competed in the first all women's pay-per-view Evolution on October 28, collaborating with Banks and Natalya in a thrilling effort against The Riott Squad. Bayley competed at Survivor Series on November 18, where she was eliminated via countout after a brawl with Sonya Deville outside the ring. Bayley defeated Charlotte Flair and Nia Jax in the Royal Rumble match on January 27, 2019, but was eventually disqualified by Charlotte Flair and Nia Jax.

Bayley and Banks captured the inaugural WWE Women's Tag Team Championship by lastly eliminating Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville in a six-tag team Elimination Chamber match at Elimination Chamber on February 17. They defeated Nia Jax and Tamina on March 10, completing their first good title defense at Fastlane. They lost the titles to The IIconics in a vital four-way match at WrestleMania 35 on April 7, snapping their reign at 49 days.

Bayley was recruited to the SmackDown brand on April 16, breaking up her team with Banks, who remained on Raw, when she was drafted. On April 21, Bayley and Ember Moon defeated The Riott Squad in The Shield's Final Chapter. Bayley won the Money in the Bank ladder competition on May 19, giving her a chance to play a woman's championship match at any time of her choosing. She'll cash in her briefcase and overthrowrown Charlotte Flair for the first time later that night. With this victory, she became the first WWE Women's Grand Slam champion in WWE history. Bayley defeated Bliss once at Stomping Grounds on June 23, then retaining the title against the two teams in a handicap match at Extreme Rules on July 14. Bayley defended the title against Ember Moon at SummerSlam on August 11, where they triumphed against Ember Moon.

Bayley appeared on Raw on September 2nd, supporting Sasha Banks in attacking Becky Lynch with a steel chair, turning heel for the first time in her career. Bayley defended Lynch on SmackDown Live, claiming that she was only helping Banks because of their friendship. Bayley retained the crown on September 15 after using an exposed turnbuckle, but Flair in a Cell lost the title on October 6, putting her reign at 140 days. Bayley debuted a new appearance on SmackDown's October 11 episode, after pulling her ponytail and kicking the inflatable tube men ("Bayley Buddies") during her entrance and then regaining the title from Flair. Bayley retained her title against Nikki Cross after Bank interference, and after the match, Shayna Baszler struck all three women.

Bayley defeated Raw Women's Champion Becky Lynch and NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler in a non-title triple threat match that Baszler won in Survivor Series on November 24, which Baszler defeated. On the November 29 episode of SmackDown, she started a feud with Lacey Evans after Bayley and Banks insulted the women of the SmackDown roster for their death at Survivor Series; Evans attacked Banks. She held the title against Evans at Royal Rumble on January 26, 2020. Bayley claimed she had beaten every woman on the roster, and Naomi denied that as Bayley never beat her, triggering a feud between the two teams. Bayley retained her title against Carmella on February 14 of SmackDown. Bayley defeated Naomi in what was the first women's championship match in Saudi Arabia on February 27. Bayley defeated Charlotte Flair's reign of 147 days on March 8, becoming the longest-serving SmackDown Women's Champion. Bayley and Banks appeared to the ring on March 20 that they were supposed to miss WrestleMania 36 this year, but Paige, who later announced that Bayley will defend her title against Naomi, Lacey Evans, Dana Brooke (who was later suspended from the tournament), Tamina, and Sasha Banks in a six-pack elimination match at WrestleMania 36. Bayley retained the title after lastly defeating Evans on the second night of the tournament on April 5. Bayley retained the title against Tamina after a departure from Banks, which was a distraction from Banks.

Bayley and Banks won the Women's Tag Team Championship for the second time on June 5 on SmackDown's second episode, making Bayley a double champion. Bayley and Banks retained their titles in a triple threat tag team match against Bliss and Cross and The IIconics, which at Backlash on June 14. Bayley won twice against Nikki Cross, first at Extreme Rules on July 19, and then on SmackDown's July 31 episode. At SummerSlam on August 23, she retained her title against Asuka. At Payback on August 30, Bayley and Banks lost the Women's Tag Team Championship against Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler, the newly formed team. Bayley turned on Banks once more on a rematch by losing the titles, disbanding their squad. Banks targeted Clash of Champions on September 27, after retaining her position against Asuka. Bayley retained Banks through disqualification on October 9; later that night, Banks vs. Bayley advanced to another title match at Hell in a Cell within the eponymous structure, which was announced the next day. Bayley lost the SmackDown Women's Championship to Sasha Banks by submission on October 25, effectively ending her reign at 380 days. Bayley, the self-appointed captain of team SmackDown, was fired by Peyton Royce on November 22, but Peyton Royce ended him on November 22, but not before.

Bayley was the first entrant in the Royal Rumble on January 31, 2021, but eventual winner Bianca Belair denied him, despite the fact that she had been eliminated by eventual winner Bianca Belair. Bayley came out and began insulting the hosts, Hulk Hogan and Titus O'Neil, only to be defeated by the Bella Twins on the second night of WrestleMania 37. Bayley will launch a feud with Belair for the SmackDown Women's Championship at WrestleMania Backlash on May 16 and in a Cell inside the eponymous building on June 20, all in a losing effort. Bayley had been scheduled to face Belair in a "I Quit" match at Money in the Bank on July 18, but WWE revealed on July 9 that she sustained a torn ACL during preparation at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, which would keep her sidelined for nine months. She was left undrafted in the 2021 WWE Draft, making her a free agent.

Bayley came back from action on July 30, 2022, marking an alliance with Iyo Sky (formerly known as Io Shirai) and Dakota Kai while speaking to Belair after her Raw Women's Championship defense against Becky Lynch. They defeated Belair, Alexa Bliss, and Asuka to a six-woman tag team match at Clash at the Castle on August 8, which they accepted. Bayley, Kai, and Sky, as Damage Control, defeated Belair, Bliss, and Asuka at the 2009 tournament on September 3. Bayley accepted Belair's wrangle of the Raw Women's Championship at Extreme Rules on September 6th. Bayley did not win the title at the game on October 8, defeating them by a large margin.
