Vijay Deverakonda, an Indian film actor best known for his appearances in Telugu language films, has appeared in a few Tamil films.

Vijay made his film debut in 2011 with Ravi Babu's romantic comedy Nuvvila (2011), but he gained acclaim for his role in the coming-of-age drama Yevade Subramanyam (2015).

Vijay rose to fame in 2016's romantic comedy Pelli Choopulu, which received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu, and was included in Forbes india's Top 30 Under 30 list of 2019.

Vijay has remained a leading actor of Telugu cinema, appearing in lead roles in films including Arjun Reddy (2018), Mahanati (2018), Geetha Govindam (2018), Taxiwaal (2018), and Dear Comrade (2018), some of which appear on the list of top-grossing Telugu films.

He received several accolades, one of which was named Best Actor - Telugu, for his role in Arjun Reddy.

In 2019, he was given the South Indian International Film Critics Award for his role in Geetha Govindam.

Early life

Deverakonda Sai was born in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana) to Govardhan Rao and Madhavi. His family hails from Thummana, a former Mahbubnagar district (now Nagarkurnool). His father, a small television serial producer, stopped doing them due to a lack of success.

In Puttaparthi, Deverakonda attended a Sathya Sai Higher Secondary School (a boarding school) until the 10th grade. He then attended the Little Flower Junior College in Hyderabad. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Anand, his younger brother, is also an actor, appears in The film Anand.

Career

Deverakonda made his debut with Ravi Babu-directed romantic comedy Nuvvila (2011). He appeared in Sekhar Kammula's Life is Beautiful in a minor role later. He was introduced to Nag Ashwin, who later starred him in a supporting role in the 2015 film Yevade Subramanyam alongside actor Nani. The film was made by Ashwini Dutt's daughters, a Telugu film company; Priyanka Dutt backed him and he was shot; Swapna Dutt signed him and production was ongoing; Swapna Dutt backed him and eventually started; a producer called them out; and Swapna Dutt signed him;

Pelli Choopulu, Tharun Bhascker's first lead role, was Deverakonda's first lead role. At the 64th National Film Awards, the film became commercially successful and received the Best Feature Film in Telugu and the Best Film in Telugu and the Best Feature Film Award for Best Film – Telugu. In 2017, he appeared in the masala film Dwaraka. Arjun Reddy's new film, which was both lauded and chastised, received praise for being both innovative and pioneering. Vijay's portrayal as a self-destructive, short-tempered, and alcoholic surgeon received critical acclaim, and he was given the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu. In 2019, Film Companion ranked Deverakonda's success in Arjun Reddy in "100 Greatest Performances of the Decade" a decade.

Ye Mantram Vesave, which was supposed to be released in 2013 but not released on 2018 after Arjun Reddy, was released on October 28. He appeared in Mahanati, a biographical film based on actress Savitri's life. Geetha Arts' romantic comedy Geetha Govindam, in which he played an innocent and nervous college professor, was Deverakonda's next release in 2018. NOTA, directed by Anand Shankar, was his next film, and it did not do well at the box office, and it was released on October 5th. UV Creations' supernatural comedy thriller Taxiwaala was his next project.

In 2019, Deverakonda appeared in Dear Comrade, a romantic action drama starring Rashmika Mandanna in Bharat Kamma. He later signed Hero, a film directed by Anand Annamalai co-starring Malavika Mohanan. However, the film was reportedly shelved right from the start of production. He appeared in Kranthi Madhav's romantic drama World Famous Lover, opposite Raashi Khanna, Aishwarya Rajesh, and Izabelle Leite, which attracted critical acclaim in 2020. He appeared in the Hindi–Telugu bilingual film Liger, directed by Puri Jagannadh and produced by Karan Johar in 2022, and it is set to be released on December 23rd 2022. He has also joined Jana Gana Mana, which is being led by Puri Jagannadh, and is expected to be released on August 2023.
