Career
Harry Melling appeared in stage productions of The Provoked Wife, King John, Antigone, and Plenty throughout his career. Dudley Dursley, Harry Potter's spoiled cousin, appeared in five of Harry Potter's films. He appeared in a revival of Mother Courage and her Children at the Royal National Theatre in 2009. He appeared in "The Sorcerer's Shadow," an episode of the BBC television series Merlin, as a young warlock named Gilli who wants to use magic to help him defeat Camelot's legendary tournament. In the BBC television series Just William, he appeared alongside Robert Brown.
Melling had shed so much weight since his last appearance in Harry Potter that he was no longer "unrecognizable." Part 1 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Dudley was almost recast, but Melling was able to reprise the role by wearing a fat suit. "I can now shed the child actor stuff, like the fat, and start a new career," he said. "No one sees me as Dudley."
