Suriya Career

Career

Suriya worked at a clothing exports plant for eight months before starting his film career. He did not reveal himself to his boss as Sivakumar's son, in order to prevent nepotism, but his boss eventually learned the truth for himself. He was first offered the lead role in his film Aasai (1995), but he turned down the opportunity citing a lack of interest in an acting career. He appeared in Vasanth's own 1997 film Nerrukku Ner, directed by Mani Ratnam, when he was 22 years old. Ratnam offered Suriya to him in order to prevent a name match with established actor Saravanan. In Ratnam's films, Suriya was often used for characters. Vijay, who would later go on to be a leading contemporary actor in Kollywood, co-starred with him in the film.

In the late 1990s, a string of leading roles in commercially flop films was followed by a string of roles. He appeared in the romantic film Kaadhale Nimmadhi in 1998. Sandhippoma was released in July of the same year. He appeared in the film Perpetyanna (1999), directed by S. A. Chandrasekhar, shortly after. He appeared with Jyothika in Poovellam Kettuppar (1999) and Uyirile Kalanthathu (2000). He appeared in Siddique's comedy film Friends in 2001, as well as co-starring Vijay, which became a commercial success.

Suriya confessed to struggling due to a lack of confidence, memory, combat, or dancing skills in his early career, but it was actor Raghuvaran, one of his mentors, who encouraged him to create his own identity rather than sit under his father's shadow.

His biggest break came in the form of Nandha, which Bala had arranged. He was given the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor for his role as an ex-convict who is deeply attached to his mother. Unnai Ninaithu, Vikraman's, was followed by Sri and Mounam Pesiyadhe directed by Ameer Sultan in his next venture.

In 2003, he appeared in Gautham Vasudev Menon's Kaakha, a film about a police officer's life. With a Rediff.com reviewer predicting that "Surya as Anbu Selvan fits the role, and that this film is undoubtedly a career high for him," the film opened to encouraging responses. The film became Suriya's first big blockbuster. In Bala's Pithamagan, his portrayal of a happy-go-lucky village crook with a comedic touch earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor, Tamil. The film did well commercially. In 2004, he served in Perazhagan as both an aggressive boxer and a handicapped phone booth attendant. Suriya's result received praise from reviewers, with a reviewer describing it as "Surya deserving of praise for his unmatched results." He's at his best behaving comedic or offensive. The actor has landed a hat trick. Suriya won his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Tamil, and the film became a huge success at the box office. He portrayed the role of a student leader in Mani Ratnam's political drama Aaytha Ezhuthu, as well as Madhavan and Siddarth, which attracted largely critical attention.

Suriya agreed to participate in A. R. Murugados' psychological thriller in November 2004; he played the role of a businessman with Anterograde amnesia. Ghajini was born in late 2005 and became a Blockbuster, making it the third highest-grossing film of the year in Tamil. Suriya's role was unanimously lauded, with a Sify reviewer citing Suriya's "the film is fueled by Suriya's riveting performance." The film was released in Telugu under the same name and was a box office hit, earning him the name in Andhra Pradesh. He worked in Hari's action film Aaru later in the day, and the film attracted a moderate response at the box office. His work earned positive reviews, with a reviewer who wrote, "Surya holds you riveted to the seats in another healthy attempt."

He appeared in Jyothika Chawla's film Sillunu Oru Kaadhar in 2006. The film received a good start and average reception, but his performance was lauded, with a reviewer from Sify remarking that "Surya debuts in with yet another outstanding role, whether it be the responsible husband and father or the cool dude at college." Hari's Vel, the film director who was paired with Asin for the second time after Ghajini, was his only release in 2007. The film, which starred him in two parts, was extremely profitable on a commercial level.

Suriya's next move was a collaboration with Gautham Vasudev Menon after the success of Kaakha Kaakha, Suriya started working on Menon's biographical Vainnam Aayiram in November 2008. Suriya appeared in two roles for the third time in his career, with both characters requesting scenes shot throughout their lives, from 16-year-old to scenes as a 65-year-old. Suriya referred to the film as "unique" and "straight from the heart," referring to the physical challenges he suffered through the making. He lost weight and built a six pack for the film during an eight-month fitness regimen without steroids, with the film being a trendsetter for other leading actors from South India. Simran, Sameera Reddy, and Divya Spandana appeared in various roles on the film's release, as well as receiving praise from film reviewers, with Suriya's success lauded. Rediff's critic characterized the film as his "numnum opus" and that the film for him is a "justified triumph." Critics also praised Suriya's performance as "outstanding" and said the film "works because of his appearance," while other reviewers said the film was a "out and out Suriya show." His appearances have also earned him multiple prestigious awards, including the Best Actor by the jury and the Vijay Award for Best Actor in 2008. The film also received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil in 2008.

Suriya's first publication, K. V. Anand's action-thriller Ayan, was released in 2009. Prabhu appeared as his guardian and Tamannaah Bhatia as the lead actor in the film, with Suriya portraying the role of a smuggler. Suriya's acrobatic stunts were shot extensively across Tanzania, Namibia, Malaysia, and India, and without the use of a stunt double. The film received critical feedback after its release, with Suriya's performance being acknowledged as a "must watch" and the Vijay Award for Entertainer of the Year being given. Suriya emerged as the most successful leading actor in Tamil films after a hat trick of big commercial hits, with film journals claiming that his success was due to "experiments within the commercial style" and his success in "avoiding being typecast." The film ran for 100 days in three states (Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andra Pradesh). Ayan was the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2009.

K. S. Ravikumar's action entertainer Aadhavan's sequel, Aadhavan's, was also a hit, and Suriya's portrayal of a hitman was lauded. "The film rides on the magic of the actor, and his zany shenanigans alone makes it worth a watch," a Sify.com analyst said, but the applause hits the roof, "because it is "completely his film." In 2010, he enjoyed his 25th release with Singam directed by Hari, in which he played the role of a small village police officer going to work in the city. The film received rave reviews, with The Hindu newspaper stating that "Suriya shows that be it a performance-oriented role or a formulaic concoction he can produce," while Sify.com said, "Ultimately it is Suriya who leads the film to the winning post." His passion and the way he brings an ordinary everyday larger-than-life hero character to life on film is instructive for future business heroes. M S Dhoni, an Indian cricketer, said, "I'm a huge fan of Suriya." The film earned Suriya the Vijay Award for Best Entertainer once more, was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Tamil once more, and then moved on to become the year's second highest-grossing film. In the second part of Ram Gopal Varma's political drama Rakta Charitra in 2010, he made his Telugu and Hindi debut. Ratha Sarithiram, a Tamil film that was partially dubbed and partially reshot, was released in Tamil. Suriya appeared in three consecutive guest appearances, including Trisha and Madhavan in a song in Manmadhan Ambu (2010) before appearing in K. V. Anand's Avan Ivan (2011).

7aum Arivu, A. R. Murugados's science fiction action thriller with him in a supporting role, was his only release in 2011 that starred him in a leading role. Suriya appeared in both films with Shruti Haasan as a circus artist and a Buddhist monk named Bodhidharma, who lived in the 6th century. The film received mixed reviews, but it became the actor's first film to gross over $1 billion. His 2012 film was the K. V. Anand directed Maattrraan, in which he played the conjoined twins Vimalan and Akhilan. Mixed reviews have been given to the film. And the film ended up being an average grosser, although Suriya's contribution, as well as technological aspects and VFX, was lauded. In the Telugu dubbed version of the film, Suriya himself dubbed for one of his characters.

Suriya was chosen as the official host of the forthcoming game show on STAR Vijay, Neengalum Oru Kodi, the Tamil version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in January 2012, which aired on February 27th, 2012, and ended on July 12th. Singam II, a sequel to his 2010 film Singam, that received mixed reviews from critics, was his next film. Despite this, the film debuted at a large opening and became one of the top grossing Tamil films of all time. Suriya was praised once more for his portrayal of Durai Singam, and his role as "the film's backbone" was praised. Singam II was a box office hit and became the actor's second 1 billion grosser. Suriya produced the film in 2013 through his production company 2D Entertainment, which was founded in 2013. According to reports, he had been waiting for six months to begin filming in Gautham Vasudev Menon's film Dhruva Natchathiram. However, he resigned as a result of the project's lagging and differences with the director in October 2013.

The next film starring N. Lingusamy was released on August 15th, 2014, with mixed reviews. He also co-sang Ek Do Theen Char with Andrea Jeremiah for Anjaan. Baradwaj Rangan, the Hindu, called 24 an "intelligent, joyous mix of sci-fi and masala-myth." 24 is a classy commercial entertainer, with its moments, according to Sreedhar Pillai in his review for Firstpost. "Attractive packaged, 24 is refreshing, novel, and worth a watch," Malini Mannath of The New Indian Express wrote. "It's not often that a major actor would opt for a script that isn't simple or formulaic," M. Suganth of The Times of India's chief executive said. The film was rated 3.3 out of 5 by IndiaGlitz.com, who described it as "A stunning and magnificent display of Time." Suriya received awards for critics choice best actor and made her debut in the Actor category for the first time. In addition, the film earned a 1.2 billion from the Worldwide Box office in 18 days.
