Career

Sudeep began filmmaking in 1997 in Thayavva (1997). He appeared in Prathyartha, directed by Sunil Kumar Desai, and also in the lead role in the same director's Sparsha. He had his first big following in 2001 after being involved in Huchcha. He made his Bollywood debut in Phoonk in 2008. He has also appeared in Ram Gopal Varma's films Rann, Phoonk 2 and Rakta Charitra.

He converted his stage name from Sudeep to Sudeepa per S. Narayan's suggestion, and after the film's success, he kept the name. Kempe Gowda and Vishnuvardhana (2011), his sequels, were also a hit.

Sudeepa made his Telugu cinema debut in 2012 with S. S. Rajamouli's Eega, a fantasy film in which he played an NGO employee, murders her suspected lover, who is now haunted as a housefly. The film and Sudeepa's role were highly lauded.

Bachchan and Varadanayaka were both released in 2013. His next film, Maanikya, was a drama that he also directed, a remake of the Telugu film Mirchi (2013), which was a huge hit. In 2015, he appeared in Ranna, a Telugu film that was also a blockbuster and appeared as a Persian arms trader in Baahubali: The Beginning, directed by S. S. Rajamouli, and was the year's highest-grossing film.
