Life and career
Sam Kim was born in the United States, where he attended Todd Beamer High School in Federal Way, Washington. Jooyoung and Sujin are his younger brother and sister. Kim left Los Angeles for South Korea at the age of 15 to attend the third season of the talent show K-pop Star after passing preliminary auditions. He came in second place in the competition and was signed by Antenna Music's CEO, You Hee-yeol, a judge on the show.
On March 28, 2016, Kim released the first part of his debut EP, My Name Is Sam. It contained three songs, including the pre-release single "Mama Don't Worry." I Am Sam Sam, Sam Sam's full EP, was released on April 10. Its lead single was "No Sense" (No Sense) starring Crush. On the same day, his debut appearance was on K-pop Star 5's final stage.
"Make Up"'s music video was released on October 23, 2018, ahead of Kim's upcoming studio album, Sun and Moon. It was Kim's second lead single to feature Crush. On November 22, 2018, the complete album was released as well as a music video for the second single "It's You," starring Zico.
