Renato Tapia Career

Club career

Tapia, a native of Lima, Peru, began his football career with Sporting Cristal's youth team before joining Esther Grande Academy at 12 years old, where he quickly established himself as a youth player. He helped the academy win the Copa Federación in the 1995 category while still winning the Best Player award in the 'Night of Stars' category. His progress at Esther Grande academy attracted attention from Premier League teams Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. Tapia revealed that he had almost joined Liverpool but was turned down due to his height.

Tapia's summer transfer, 2013, moved to Europe for the first time in his career, signing a four-year deal with Ewente. He was sent immediately after joining the club, and the Jong FC Twente, the club's reserves, was sent to grow.

Tapia made his Jong FC Twente debut in a 3–3 draw against De Graafschap on September 20, 2013, serving as a replacement in Robbert Schilder's second half. He was an unutilizable substitute in Jong FC Twente's match against Cambuur Tapia two weeks later, scoring his first goal on November 22nd, 2013 in a 2–1 win over Willem II. In the 2013-14 season, he made 19 appearances, scoring once for Twente's reserves.

Tapia was promoted to Twente's first team following a season with Jong FC Twente. In the 80th minute for Darryl Lachman, he made his first-team debut at Twente in the first game of the season, a 0-0 draw against Cambuur. He sustained an ankle injury a week earlier that kept him out for three months. In a 2–1 victory over PEC Zwolle on November 23, 2014, he made his return to the first team as a late replacement. Tapia was suspended as a substitute in a match against Willem II on December 21, 2014, just 8 minutes after being called on as a replacement for a foul on Samuel Armenteros. In a 2–1 victory over Cambuur on January 31, 2015, he scored his first goal for the club after a one-match suspension. He scored four more goals against PEC Zwolle, Groningen, and a brace against Go Ahead Eagles later this season. His season came to an end after he sustained a knee injury and finished the season with 22 appearances and five times in all competitions.

Tapia underwent knee surgery and was thought to be out early for the 2015–16 season, costing him his spot in the Persua squad for the 2015 Copa América. However, he made a recovery from a knee injury while training with the first team in mid-July. In a 1–1 draw against Groningen, he scored in the first game of the season. As a result, he sustained a knee injury again and was forced to miss the second half. He returned to action in a number of games before suffering a knee injury against Ajax on September 12, 2015. He sustained a knee injury in early November and missed one Twente game, but recovered in time for his international service. Tapia had made 14 appearances and scored once in all competitions by the end of the season's first half.

Feyenoord expressed an interest in signing Tapia after finding out about FC Twente's financial situation, and he was one of three players at Twente to be sold in December 2015. The transfer was finalized on January 27, 2016, for a reported transfer fee of €2.4 million. Tapia joined Feyenoord after three years with FC Twente.

Tapia made his Feyenoord debut against Ajax on February 7th, 2016, losing 2–1. His first team appearances were limited to three appearances and being a used substitute. Rather, he spent the majority of the season in reserve. He later said that in order to win his first team opportunity, he had to develop by being quicker and more flexible to match the club's tactics.

Tapia wished he would be in the first team ahead of the 2016–17 season. He remained in the substitutes. He made his first appearance in the second round of the KNVB Cup on September 22, 2016, playing 7 minutes after coming on as a substitute in a 4–1 victory over Oss. In a 2–0 victory over Willem II, he scored in his first league appearance of the season, just 13 minutes after coming on as a replacement.

Celta de Vigo, a La Liga team, reported the free signing of Tapia under a four-year contract on July 20, 2020.

International career

Tapia was chosen by the Peru U17 for the South American Under-17 Football Championship and by the Peru U20 for the South American Youth Football Championship.

Tapia was called up by Peru's senior team for the first time in March 2015. In a 2–2 draw against Venezuela on April 1, he made his debut on April 1, 2015. He had been supposed to be in the Copa América for the Peru squad but an injury prevented him from doing so. Despite this, he was picked in the Copa América Centenario squad and played in all four matches in the season. In a 2–1 victory over Ecuador on September 7, Tapia scored his first Peru goal.

He was selected in Peru's provisional 24 man squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia in May 2018.

Celta Vigo 1-4 Real Madrid, Luka Modric, scores a fine goal as the champions get off to a winning start

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 21, 2022
In a thumping 4-1 victory over Celta Vigo, Luka Modric and the electric Vinicius made sure Real Madrid did not miss Casemiro at Balaidos. Modric, who would have turned 37 next month, was curled in a shot from the edge of the area to put Real Madrid up by a few points after a Iago Aspas penalty cancelled out a spot-kick from Karim Benzema. David Alaba went from the left, and when Renato Tapia slipped, Modric took the majority of the space to select his spot and bend the ball around Agustin Marchesin.
