Keita Balde Career

Club career

Keita was born in Arbcies, Catalonia, to Senegalese parents, who came from the FC Barcelona youth academy. Keita and the Barcelona youth team traveled to Qatar for a tournament in 2010, where he made a practical joke by placing an ice cube in a teammate's bed; as a punishment, Barcelona sent the 15-year-old Keita on loan to Barcelona's UE Cornellà, despite his fame as a future prospect for the Barcelona first team. Cornellà was granted the opportunity to a sliver of Keita's playing rights as a result of the loan. Keita turned down the opportunity to return to Barcelona after a season in which he scored 47 goals for Cornell's youth team, attracting the attention of Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Keita was signed by Serie A side Lazio in the summer of 2011, of which 10% went to Cornellà. Keita was unable to participate in official matches for Lazio's youth teams for a year as he had to wait to be granted Spanish citizenship and a visa for the Italian club to register him. However, he was outstanding when he was playing in the Torneo Karol Wojtyla youth tournament, where he scored six goals in just four games.

Keita spent the 2012-2013 season with Lazio's Primavera youth team and training with the first team. Head coach Vladimir Petkovi had selected him to serve on the bench for a few games in the fall season, but he did not make his senior debut.

Keita made his league debut against Chievo on September 15, 2013 as a late replacement for Luis Pedro Cavanda. Keita made his debut in the Europa League group stage match against Legia Warsaw on Friday, with the match's first goal scored by Hernanes. In a 1–1 draw against Parma on October 10, he scored his first senior goal.

When Lazio defeated Bayer Leverkusen 1–0 in the first leg of their Champions League play-off at the Stadio Olimpico on August 18, 2015, Keita came off the bench to score the only goal of the game.

In Serie A matchday 6 against Empoli at home, Keita completely established himself in the starting lineup for the 2016–17 season, scoring his first goal of the season. Keita made his 100th appearance in Serie A in Bologna on March 6th. Keita made his second hat-trick in Lazio's 6–2 defeat of Palermo on April 23rd, taking his total score to 11 goals for the first time in his career. He completed the hat-trick in five minutes, making it the fastest hat-trick score in Serie A since the 1974–75 season. In the Derby della Capitale against Roma for matchday 34, Keita scored a brace as Lazio defeated 3-1 for their first victory in the league since November 2012. In the 98-1999 season, he became the first Lazio player to score a brace in the derby since Roberto Mancini.

Keita joined Monaco on a five-year deal for a reported €30 million transfer fee. Tiémoué Bakayoko, who left for Chelsea earlier this summer, had his number 14 shirt vacated. Keita opened the scoring in a 2–0 Ligue 1 home victory over Caen on Sunday, his first competitive Monaco goal after playing seven games in all competitions for the club.

Keita signed Inter Milan on loan of €6 million with a €30 million option to buy at the end of the season on August 13. In a loss to Sassuolo, he made his Serie A debut for the club on the first matchday of the 2018-19 season. In a 3–0 victory over Frosinone on November 24, he scored his first goals for the Nerazzurrri; a brace. Despite not making many appearances, he made his way to the net in the away match against Roma on December 3rd, which ended 2–2. On December 29, he scored in the 72nd minute over Empoli in the 72nd minute from a pass from ime Vrsaljko. He scored one goal in Inter Milan's 2–1 win over the second half of the season, as well as against Empoli on May 26, 2019. Baldé returned to Monaco at the end of the season as Inter did not trigger the buyout clause.

Keita joined Sampdoria on loan until June 20, 2021, on September 29, 2020. In a 2–3 home loss to Sassuolo on Sunday, after being sidelined for almost two months due to an injury, he scored his first goal for Sampdoria in his fourth appearance.

Keita arrived in Cagliari, where he played for one season from August 31.

Keita signed a three-year deal with Russian Premier League team Spartak Moscow on August 26. In a 1-2 loss to Zenit Saint Petersburg on September 4, 2022, he made his debut on September 4th, 2022.

The Italian Anti-Doping Organization closed an investigation into Balde's activities while he was playing for Cagliari and barred him from playing until December 2022 for breaching testing procedures, despite no banned substances being found. Spartak also agreed to the Italian ruling.

International career

Keita was born in Spain to Senegalese parents. Despite being able to play for Spain, Senegal's father, Senegal, was called up by their coach, Aliou Cissé, for the match against Niger on Friday, a late replacement. In December 2015, he also played a friendly match against Basque Country against the Catalonia national team.

Keita was selected in Senegal's 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia in May.

The Qatar World Cup is a sports tournament hosted in Qatar. Due to a worldwide doping ban, Senegal's Keita Balde will miss the MISS tournament

After Cagliari, the Italian side where he left in the summer to join Spartak Moscow, losing 5-1 to Udinese in April, the winger was called to do a drugs test. The 27-year-old produced a negative result, but Spartak announced Balde had already been found to have breached protocol and had consequently been barred by the Italian National Anti-Doping Court, according to a statement on their website. The ban goes into operation immediately and runs into early December, with his country's three World Cup Group A fixtures, including Holland, Qatar, and Ecuador, all taking place in late November.
