Papiss Cisse Life

Papiss Demba Cissé (French pronunciation: [sise]; born 3 June 1985) is a Senegalese professional footballer who plays for the Senegalese side Amiens. He competed for the Senegal national football team previously.

In the 2010–11 season, he was formerly of SC Freiburg and held the record for the most goals scored by an African player in a single Bundesliga campaign – 22. Cissé received the EFFIFU award for being the league's most effective striker during the same season.

Cissé, a full international since 2009, has earned more than 30 caps for Senegal and appeared for the country at the 2012 and 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Personal life

Cissé is a practicing Muslim, and he often performs the Sujud. He and other Muslim Newcastle players, Cheick Tiote, Demba Ba, and Hatem Ben Arfa, have all protested Newcastle United's shirt-sponsorship agreement with the Wonga firm, as Islam generally forbids usury or financial abuse. Following the publication of a photograph depicting Cissé at a gaming table at Aspers Casino in Newcastle, it was announced that the situation had been settled, with Cissé agreeing to wear the loan company's emblem.

Papiss Cisse Career

Club career

Cissé began his career with Génération Foot and Douanes Dakar before moving to the French side Metz in summer 2005. He left Metz and was loaned to French side Cherbourg after only one month during the 2005–06 season. Cissé played 26 matches and scored 11 goals for the Normandy club during the season. Cissé returned to Metz for a second two years before being loaned to Châteauroux in January 2008 and then returning to Metz in July 2008 for a third time.

Cissé joined German Bundesliga side SC Freiburg on December 28, 2009, for a €1.62 million price. Since scoring a goal and assisting in another in a 2–1 friendly victory over Metz, he became a transfer target for Freiburg in the summer of 2009. However, a transfer fee could not be decided on at the time. The player's interest in Hannover 96 has also shown an interest in him. Cissé appeared in 16 matches, scoring six goals in his first partial season at Freiburg.

Cissé was ranked second in the league in terms of goals scored during the 2010–11 Bundesliga season, his first full season with Freiburg, only behind Bayern Munich's Mario Gómez, who scored 28 goals. Cissé also set a new club and league record, scoring 22 goals over the course of the season, as well as establishing a new record for the most goals scored by an African in a single Bundesliga season. Tony Yeboah, who scored 20 goals with Eintracht Frankfurt in 1992-1993, was the previous record holder. Cissé received the EFFIFU award for being the most effective striker in the league during the same season.

Cissé joined Newcastle United on a five-and-a-half-year contract for an estimated fee of £9.3 million, teaming up with fellow Senegal striker Demba Ba in the process. He was handed the number 9 shirt, which had previously been worn by Newcastle legend Alan Shearer. In the 2–1 league win over Aston Villa at St James' Park on February 5, Cissé made his Newcastle debut in the 2–1 victory over Aston Villa. Leon Best was carteyed into the 14th minute before scoring the winning goal in the 71st minute by chesting it before volleying with his left into the top left corner of the net. In the 5–0 away league loss to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on February 11, he made his first appearance for the club. In a 2–2 home draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers, he scored in the sixth minute on February 25. In Newcastle's 1–3 league victory over West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on March 25, he scored two first-half goals, but he was denied a hat-trick early in the second half due to a save by West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster. Cissé's brace against West Brom made him the quickest player to reach the five-goal mark for Newcastle since Les Ferdinand.

Cissé scored his sixth and seventh goals against Liverpool in a 2–0 home win. In a 2–0 away victory over Swansea City on April 6, he scored his third brace in eight matches, taking his total score to nine goals in eight games to nine. Prior to Hughie Gallacher, Newcastle's most prolific goals per-game goalscorer of all time. Newcastle defeated Bolton Wanderers 2–0 home victory on September 9th for his tenth goal in nine matches. Cissé scored his 11th goal in ten matches against Stoke City on April 21. In a 2–0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on May 2, 2012, he stopped the ball with the outside of his foot from 37 yards out. He then scored his 12th and 13th Premier League goals in the second of which he curled the ball with the outside of his foot. Cissé referred to his goal as the best of his career, and was subsequently selected as the BBC's Goal of the Season. He was known for his consistent goalscoring, with stunning goals propelling Newcastle to their fifth place finish in the table at the end of his first half season.

Newcastle had declined the Senegalese Football Federation's invitation for Cissé to compete for Senegal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, on July 4, 2012. Newcastle wanted their key striker fit for a tough season ahead of playing European football, which was the reason for the decision. Cissé scored his first goal in the 2012–13 season with a header against Manchester United in the League Cup. Newcastle defeated Bordeaux 2-0 on October 4th, their third goal in their Europa League win over the Bordeaux team on October 4, 2012, Newcastle's 100th match in European competition. In a 2–1 victory over West Bromwich Albion on October 28, 2012, he scored his first Premier League goal of the season, as Sammy Ameobi deflected Cissé's shot spun off Cissé and into the net. The striker's scoring was spotless in the first four months of the season, with only scoring his second league goal of the season on November 28th, a 2–1 away loss to Stoke City.

Cissé started against Everton with Shola Ameobi and scored a header in the second minute in a 2–1 loss on January 2nd 2013. In Newcastle's 4–2 victory over Southampton on January 24, Cissé scored a spectacular 25-yard volley, bringing the club from behind to win a crucial match over fellow relegation strugglers. On March 10, Cissé won an injury time at home to Stoke City, propelling Newcastle to 13th place. Newcastle progressed to the quarter-finals with a 1–0 aggregate victory on March 14th in the second leg of the Europa League Round of 16 tie at home to Anzhi Makhachachhachachhi Makhachhachchhi Makhachachhachacha. Cissé won in the 94th-minute match against Anzhi Makhachhachhachhachhu, in a 94th-minute tie.

Cissé scored the first goal in a 3–1 loss to Benfica in the first leg of Newcastle's Europa League quarter-final match on April 4th. In a 1–0 victory over Fulham, he scored an injury time winner, bringing him to the crowd and sending manager Alan Pardew, who was running in the parade, three days later. Cissé scored his fourth goal of the Europa League campaign in a 1–1 home draw with Benfica, but that was not enough to progress Newcastle to the semi-finals of the tournament, losing 4–2 on aggregate.

In the third round of the Football League Cup, Cissé opened his account for the 2013-14 season with a 2–0 win over Newcastle against Leeds United. Cissé scored his first Premier League goal of the season on Boxing Day in a 5-1 home victory over Stoke City. Connor converted a late penalty.

Newcastle defeated Crystal Palace 1–0 on Sunday, scoring last-minute winners to win all three points for the first time in the season's second league goal of the season. Cissé's season ended on April 19th against Swansea City, as he limped off in the 21st minute. Cissé had broken his kneecap and that he had undergone surgery for the injury, according to Newcastle.

Cissé returned to France in April 2014 after breaking his knee cap against Swansea in April 2014. Cissé would return from his injury earlier than expected and will rejoin Newcastle for pre-season training with the remainder of the first-team squad, as well as the rest of the squad. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew announced on September 10th that Cissé would return to the Newcastle squad for their home match against Hull City on September 20th.

Cissé returned from injury against Hull on September 20th, replacing Emmanuel Riviere in the second half and scoring both goals for Newcastle as they went back from two goals down to a 2–2 draw. Cissé met both objectives by raising his jersey to announce a letter from teammate Jonás Gutiérrez, who recently announced that he had been diagnosed with testicular cancer. Newcastle obtained the same result at Swansea City two weeks later thanks to another brace by Cissé. He arrived as a replacement for Rémy Cabella on Friday and scored both of Newcastle's goals as they defeated leaders Chelsea 2–1, inflicting their first loss of the season. Cissé scored a second time after scoring a penalty on Boxing Day in Manchester United's 3-1 loss. In the upcoming match against Everton on December 28, he scored the equalizer, bringing his total number to nine league goals in just 14 matches to a total of 21. During the game, however, he deliberately thrust his elbow into Séamus Coleman's face during a corner. Cissé was charged with reckless conduct and barred from three games by the FA. Cissé scored a header against Crystal Palace on February 11, his tenth league goal of the season, after returning from the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. He scored his 11th goal of the season against Aston Villa on February 28th, just outside the six-yard box.

Cissé was given a six-match suspension by the FA after a spitting incident involving Manchester United defender Jonny Evans and one more for elbowing Everton's Séamus Coleman on March 7, 2015. It was a seven-match suspension all in all. Cissé was called back to the team as a second-half replacement in Newcastle's 1–1 draw with West Brom on May 9th.

Cissé scored against Southampton at home in their first match of the season, leading to the score 1–1. Despite scoring, Aleksandar Mitrovi, a new signing who had recently joined Anderlecht, was inserted for new signing Aleksandar Mitrovi. The match was a 2–2 draw. In an eventual 5–1 loss to Crystal Palace on November 28, 2015, he opened the scoring. Cigar's last game for the club came in a 2–2 draw against Liverpool on April 23, 2016.

Cissé had joined Shandong Luneng, China, for an undisclosed fee, according to the group on July 9, 2016. In an eventual 4–1 victory over Hangzhou Greentown, he scored on his second appearance for the club.

He signed with Alanyaspor of the Turkish Süper Lig on August 31, 2018. He scored his first goal against Kaspaşa on September 1st, 2018 and then scored one more goal and Alanyaspor won the game 2–1.

Cissé was involved in a coach crash on April 28 that killed Alanyaspor teammate Josef ural. Cissé recovered after suffering minor injuries.

Fenerbahçe reported the signing of Cissé on October 1, 2020.

Cissé signed with Amiens SC, a Ligue 2 team, on August 31, 2022.

Although the team had ex-Magpie Papiss Cisse training with them last month after his release from French side Amiens SC in the summer and snared Everton flop Oumar Niasse on a short-term contract, the team also signed Oumar Niasse to a short-term contract.
