Sadio Mané, a Senegalese professional footballer who plays for Liverpool and the Senegal national team, was born on April 10th, 1992. Mané began his professional career with Metz at the age 19 but he left after a single season to join Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg in 2012 for a €4 million fee, where he won a domestic double of the Austrian Football Bundesliga and the Austrian Cup in 2013.

Mané stayed with Southampton in England for a club record fee of £11.8 million, where he tied for the first hat-trick in 176 seconds after beating Aston Villa in 2015.

In 2016, he signed for fellow Premier League team Liverpool for a reported £34 million.

Mané, a Liverpool defender, helped them reach the UEFA Champions League Finals in 2018 and 2019, winning the former and the latter.

In the 2018-19 season, he also finished as the league's joint top goalcorer, winning the Premier League Golden Boot.

Mané has scored 19 goals in 68 appearances for Senegal since his debut in 2012, and his fifth all-time top goalscorer and fourth all-time for appearances.

He has served with the national team at the 2012 Olympics, as well as the 2015 and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Mané helped Senegal finish as a runners-up in the 2019 iteration.

Sadio Mane Career

Club career

Mané was born in Bambali, Senegal, in Sédhiou, Senegal. He wished for a career in football but his father (who was an imam) prohibited him from playing the game as an infant; however, his father died when he was seven years old. He left his hometown and moved to Dakar to fulfill his aspiration as a footballer at the age of 15, and from there he was encouraged by his family to fulfil his potential.

When playing in M'Bour in 2009, he was discovered by scouts and later referred to Génération Foot, a club that later saw him advance to the second division in the 2010-11 season.

Mané joined Metz in 2011, which was part of a Génération Foot collaboration. In the 75th minute of a 0–1 home loss against Bastia in Ligue 2, he made his professional debut on January 14, 2012, serving as a replacement for Kévin Diaz. In a 2–5 loss to Guingamp at the Stade Saint-Symphorien on May 4th, he made 19 appearances in his first league season, 12 as a starter, and scored a single goal. Metz was recalled to the Championnat National at the end of the season.

Mane's asking price of €2 million was compelled, and he attracted a lot of attention, including from Austrian Bundesliga side Red Bull Salzburg's sports director Ralf Rangnick. Metz raised their asking price to €4 million over the summer, and moved to Salzburg on August 31, 2012, the third-highest transfer fee that Metz had ever received.

In a 3–1 away win over SC Kalsdorf in the third round of the Austrian Cup, he scored his first hat-trick for the club on October 31.

During a 3–0 victory over Grödig on October 27, he scored his first hat-trick in the Austrian Bundesliga. Salzburg beat Horn 7–0 at Horn in the cup semi-finals on May 7th, and the team ended the season with the team winning a domestic double. Mané forced a transfer out of the club by not coming to the training and to the club's most important game to qualify for the Champions League at the end of August 2014.

Mané made the move to Southampton in Premier League for £11.8 million on September 1, 2014, after completing a four-year deal. He made his debut 22 days later against Arsenal in a 2–1 League Cup win over Arsenal, winning the penalty for Southampton's first goal. In another 2–1 victory over Queens Park Rangers on September 27, Ryan Bertrand started and assisted him for the game's first goal. In an 8-0 victory over Sunderland on October 18, he scored his first goal for the club, but Patrick van Aanholt's goal was later credited to his own goal. He did, however, score his first goal in his next game, a 1–0 victory over Stoke City a week later.

He scored in three straight matches against Crystal Palace, Chelsea, and Arsenal in December and January. Mané scored two late winning goals in a 1–0 league win over Queens Park Rangers on February 7th and on March 3rd respectively, as well as in home against Crystal Palace on March 3rd. However, Mané was suspended from Southampton's starting lineup for their 0–2 home loss to Liverpool on February 22nd as a punishment for being late to the stadium.

Mané scored three times in 2 minutes 56 seconds in Southampton's last home match of the season on May 16th, tying a new Premier League record for the fastest hat-trick. Robbie Fowler, who scored three against Arsenal in 4 minutes and 33 seconds, had been holding the record since 1994. Mané scored ten goals from 32 appearances in all competitions to begin the season.

Mané began his 2015-2016 season by registering two assists in the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round first leg match, with Vitesse Arnhem at home and scoring in the return leg, as Southampton progressed to the next round 5–0 on aggregate. In the quarter-finals of the League Cup, he took 39 seconds to open the scoring against Liverpool, but the Saints lost 6–1.

He was once more dropped from the starting lineup by manager Ronald Koeman for a game at Norwich City on January 2nd, when he arrived late for a pre-match meeting. On 12 March, he received a straight red card at Stoke City after a 2–1 win over Erik Pieters in a collision, but the situation was quickly reversed on appeal.

Mané scored twice in a 3–2 victory over Liverpool on March 20, 2016, followed by five goals in the next five matches, including a hat-trick in a 4–2 victory over Manchester City on May 1st, despite having failed to score in the league for more than four months. He ended the season as Southampton's top scorer, scoring 15 goals in all competitions.

Mané joined Liverpool for £34 million on a five-year deal on June 28, 2016. Because of the transfer fee, he became the most expensive African player in history at the time. He made his Premier League debut for the Reds on August 14th, scoring his fourth goal in a 4–3 away victory over Arsenal. Mané returned from the starting lineup against Burton Albion in the League Cup, where he had two assists in a 5–0 victory despite missing Liverpool's defeat at Burnley due to a minor shoulder injury.

Mané scored the only goal of the 227th Merseyside derby against Everton at Goodison Park on December 19th. Mané scored two goals in less than two minutes against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Tuesday, Liverpool's first league victory in 2017. Mané was named in the PFA Team of the Year on April 20th after scoring 13 goals in his first season with Liverpool. Despite missing the second half of the season due to injury, Mané was named the Liverpool Player of the Season award on May 9, 2017.

Mané scored Liverpool's first goal of the season in a 3-3 draw in the first match of the season on August 12, 2017 against Watford. After scoring a goal in each of the Reds' three games in August, he was named Premier League Player of the Month. In the first half of a 5–0 loss to Manchester City for a high boot against goalkeeper Ederson, resulting in a three-match suspension. Following Mané's departure from the latter's mid-season release, Mané, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Philippe Coutinho formed the "Fab Four" and "Fab Three."

Mané scored his first hat-trick for Liverpool in a 5–0 away victory over Porto in the first leg of the 2017–18 UEFA Champions League on February 14, 2018. He became Europe's second player to score an away hat-trick. Later this year, he beat AFC Bournemouth 3–0 to become the highest scoring Senegalese in Premier League history, surpassing Demba Ba's record of 43 points.

Mané scored Liverpool's equalizing goal in a 3–1 loss on May 26th during the 2018 UEFA Champions League Final against Real Madrid. In doing so, he became the first Senegalese player to score in the final of the tournament. His goal was also his 10th for the season, which saw Liverpool become the first team in the Premier League to have three players score 10+ goals in a single Champions League season, with Mané and Salah winning the challenge together.

Mané signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool on November 22, 2018. Mané scored twice in a 4–2 victory over Burnley on March 10, the second of which was his 50th competitive goal for Liverpool. Despite Michael Owen, Fernando Torres, Luis Suárez, and Salah, he became the fifth Liverpool player to score in six consecutive home Premier League appearances since being named in Michael Owen, Fernando Torres, Luis Suárez, and Salah. He scored twice more in a 3–1 victory over Bayern Munich to help Liverpool progress to the Champions League quarterfinals three days later. He made the club's highest goalcorer away from home in the competition, with seven goals to his name. After scoring his 17th goal for the season against Fulham in Liverpool's next game, he broke another of Ba's records to become the Senegalese player with the most goals scored in a single Premier League season. He was one of six players nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award alongside teammate Virgil van Dijk on April 20th. He was also named in the PFA Team of the Year alongside Liverpool teammates Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson, and Van Dijk.

Mané scored twice in a 2–0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on the final day of the domestic season. His brace helped him win the Premier League Golden Boot Award with Salah and Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Mané helped win an early penalty for Liverpool in the 2019 UEFA Champions League Final against Tottenham, only 24 seconds after the game, but Liverpool lost the match 2–0, gaining the trophy.

Mané scored twice in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup final against Chelsea on August 14, 2019, a match that Liverpool lost 5–4 on penalties after the game had finished 2–2 after 120 minutes. Mané was named man of the match. He scored twice in a 3–1 victory over Newcastle United and extended his unbeaten streak at Anfield to 50 matches, a record for any player at a particular stadium. Mané scored his 50th Premier League appearance for the club in a 2–1 win over Leicester City on October 5th.

Mané was selected in the 30-man shortlist for the 2019 Ballon d'Or on October 21st. He came in fourth place for the award on December 2nd, behind Lionel Messi, Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk, and Cristiano Ronaldo. Liverpool defeated Everton 5–2 on Merseyside, extending their undefeated streak in league football to 32 matches, a new club record. Liverpool beat the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup later this month, with Mané scoring the winning goal against Flamengo.

Mané was named CAF African Footballer of the Year on January 7, 2020. He is the second Senegalese (following El Hadji Diouf) to have been honoured with this award.

Mané won by 3–2 home victory over West Ham United in the Premier League on February 24th, making it 21 consecutive home victories, a league record shared with Bill Shankley's Liverpool team from 1972, making it a joint Premier League record 18 wins in a row. Liverpool defeated Bournemouth 2–1 at Anfield on March 7th, mané scored the winning goal in a 2–1 win over Mané as Liverpool posted a new English top-flight record of 22 consecutive home victories. At the end of the season, Liverpool went on to win the Premier League title.

Mané opened his scoring account in the 2020-21 Premier League with both Liverpool and Chelsea scoring in a 2–0 victory over Chelsea on September 20, 2020. Mané was positive for COVID-19 on October 2, 2020. Mané said that 2020-21 would have been his worst season of his career, considering his and Liverpool's stuttering form. Mané scored a brace in a 2–0 victory over Crystal Palace on the final day of the League season on May 23.

Mané scored his 100th Liverpool goal in a 3–0 home win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League on September 18th. Mané set a new Premier League record by beating Crystal Palace in nine straight league games against the same opponent. Mané scored his 100th Premier League goal, becoming the third African to reach the landmark after Didier Drogba and Salah, with Liverpool's first goal in the 5–0 victory over Watford on October 16th. In a 2–2 away draw against Manchester City on April 10, 2022, Mané's 30th birthday, scored Liverpool's equalizing goal. Mané continued the campaign by scoring two goals against the same opposition on April 16th in a FA Cup semi-final. He scored the winning goal in a 3–2 away victory over Villarreal in the Champions League semi-finals on May 3rd, securing his team's place in the final after Liverpool lost 1–0 to Real Madrid.

Mané signed Munich's Bundesliga team on a 2022 deal until June 2025. Based on individual and team records, the fee was estimated to be €32 million (£27.4 million). Mane made his official debut in the 2022 DFL-Supercup, scoring his debut goal in the 2022 DFL-Supercup to help Bayern beat RB Leipzig 5-3 at the Red Bull Arena on Sunday. In a 6–1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, he tied up his first Bundesliga goal a week later.

International career

Mané was a member of the Senegal team at the 2012 Olympic Games, and started every match as the team advanced through Group A as runners-up to Great Britain before losing 4–2 in the quarterfinals to eventual champions Mexico.

After suffering a calf injury in Southampton's 2–0 victory over Arsenal on January 1, 2015, Mané was ruled out of the Senegalese squad for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. In a group stage elimination, he later returned to the squad and started in their final two group matches against South Africa and Algeria.

In Gabon, Mané appeared in Senegal's first two games, 2–0 wins over Tunisia and Zimbabwe, and scored a goal. Senegal was disqualified from the tournament after a goalless draw in the quarter-finals against Cameroon.

Mané was selected in Senegal's 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia in May 2018. In a 2–2 draw against Japan in the group stage, he scored the first goal. After being disqualified after the first stage, Mané started all three of Senegal's group matches, finishing below Japan on fair play points.

Mané was also named in Senegal's final squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Senegal defeated Kenya 3–0, with two goals and missing a penalty, while Senegal finished second in the group stage and qualified for the knockout stage. In Senegal's 1–0 victory over Uganda in the round of 16, Mané scored his only goal of the match and missed another penalty. Sadio Mane MISSES a penalty for Al-Nassr with regular taker Cristiano Ronaldo suspended... but the former Liverpool star recovers to net a brace in the 3-1 win over Al Feiha

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 20, 2024
Sadio Mane missed a penalty in Al-Nassr's Saudi Pro League victory over Al Feiha on Friday. Luis Castro's side found themselves behind after just six minutes at the Al-Awwal Stadium, with former Rangers striker Fashion Sakala firing the visitors into an unlikely lead. Al-Nassr were without Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Portuguese superstar suspended after being shown a straight red card in the club's Saudi Cup semi-final exit last week.

Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer swinging PUNCHES at each other, Sadio Mane fuming at Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland given a rollicking... team-mates' biggest spats after Chelsea's penalty sideshow

Forget the ludicrous own goals, daft celebrations and referees losing their footing. Nothing in football brings a chuckle quite like two team-mates forgetting about the opposition and having a pop at one another instead. Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson's primary school routine is the latest in a long line of incidents that we are all quick to condemn as disgraceful, but really make us all laugh quite a lot. Chelsea's 6-0 thumping of Everton was overshadowed by the farcical scenes as Cole Palmer shoved Jackson away after he tried to grab the ball off him - despite the Blues' top scorer already netting a hat-trick at the time.

During a Saudi Pro League match, Ahli fans fire missiles at Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr teammates, as one water bottle hits Otavio on the head and crumples, while supporters cheer "Messi, Messi."

Ronaldo and his pals were celebrating after he had seemingly put them 1-0 in front, but their goal was later called out for offside. He'll win the game 1-0 after converting a penalty, with Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino reuniting afterwards. The Ah-Ahli delinquents, who pelted the opposition players with multiple objects, stifled those positive thoughts.
