Lee Hyun-woo Career

Career

Lee began his career as a child actor, expanding his resume by appearing in a number of large-scale films, including The Legend, King Sejong the Great, The Return of Iljimae, and Queen Seondeok.

He came to prominence for his role in Master of Study, a Korean screen adaptation of Japanese manga Dragon Zakura. Lee appeared in Footloose's 2010 musical revival, where he appeared in the leading role of Ren.

In 2011, he and K-pop musician Yoon Doo-joon (from B2ST) launched the music program Music on Top for cable channel jTBC. He was later featured in IU's music video for the song "You and I." Lee widened his acting career in historical drama Gyebaek, revenge thriller Man from the Equator, and made a guest appearance in Brain, a medical drama.

Lee co-starred in To the Beautiful You, the Korean television adaptation of Japanese manga Hana-Kimi, with his role based on the character Shuichi Nakatsu. Despite low ratings during Lee's domestic run, To the Beautiful You brought greater Korean Wave exposure for Lee to countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, and China. Hwang Kwang-hee, co-star Hwang Kwang-hee, and co-star Hwang Kwang-hee were later announced as the new hosts of Live music show Inkigayo.

His breakthrough came when he landed a major role in 2013's box office hit Secretly, Greatly, an action-comedy film in which he portrayed a North Korean undercover spy disguised as a high school boy. For the film's soundtrack, Lee performed "Ode to Youth." He was the first male celebrity to be elected ambassador of the Puchon International Film Festival.

He and his real-life best friend Park Ji-bin (both were young actors and work with the same company) appeared in the travel/reality show Real Mate in Saipan in 2014. In the heist film The Con Artists, Lee next played a hacker.

He appeared in Northern Limit Line, a 2015 naval drama about the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong. The film earned 6,024,894 tickets (grossing US$38,945,231), making it the most watched Korean film in 2015.

In 2016, he appeared in the fantasy youth drama Moorim School. The drama was originally planned for 20 episodes but instead of that, it was reduced to 16 episodes due to poor viewership.

Lee appeared in the drama The Liar and His Lover, the Korean adaptation of the Japanese manga Kanojo wa Uso Aishisugiteru, alongside Red Velvet's Joy.

"Twenty-Six" was Lee's first digital single before joining the army in 2018.

Lee returned to the small screen in 2022 with the Netflix documentary Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, a return to the small screen in five years.
