Career

Ju played various bits in television dramas, but it was in 2006's romantic comedy Princess Hours, based on the manhwa Goong, that he made the breakthrough. Jury's drama, which culminated in a 28.3% rating nationally and internationally, catapulting Juju to Korean Wave stardom, brought the drama back to the United States. Together with his co-star Yoon Eun-hye, he received the MBC Drama Awards' Best New Actor award at the MBC Drama Awards.

Ju appeared in KBS2's revenge drama The Devil, opposite Uhm Tae-woong and Shin Min-a in March 2007. He received the New Asian Star Award at the 1st Acade TV Drama Awards for his role in Princess Hours and The Devil in the same month.

Ju's first film appearance was in Antique (2008), which was based on the manga Antique Bakery. The film was invited to the 59th Berlin International Film Festival. In the romantic comedy The Naked Kitchen, he then reunited with co-star Shin Min-ah.

In January 2011, he joined entertainment company KeyEast, which is owned by actor Bae Yong-joon, ahead of Ju's dismissal in November.

Ju made his comeback in the period comedy film I Am the King in August 2012. Ju played Grand Prince Choong-nyung and slave Deok-chil in a fictional period before the prince became King Sejong the Great. This was followed by his role as a pianist in the melodrama Five Fingers, which was broadcast from August to November 2012. Joo appeared in medical drama Medical Top Team and the romantic comedy film Marriage Blue.

Ju made his Chinese debut with Love Suspicion, a romantic drama. Ju was paired up with Ji Sung and Lee Kwang-soo in Confession, a neo-noir film that gruesomely explores three men's intimate lives after the death of one's mother.

Ju appeared in The Treacherous, reuniting him with Antique and Naked Kitchen director David Coveney in 2015. He made his small screen debut with SBS' Melodrama Mask alongside Soo Ae.

Ju appeared in Asura: The City of Madness, a documentary thriller that premiered at the 41st Toronto Film Festival in 2016. At the Korea Top Star Awards, he was given the Popular Film Star award.

Ju appeared in the two-part fantasy epic Along With the Gods from 2017 to 2018. The film was South Korea's second highest-grossing film, and Juel was well-known for his role as Haewonmaek.

Ju appeared in The Spy Gone North and The Dark Figure of Crime in 2018. Ju's appearance in both films earned him accolades, and he received several Best Support Actor awards at film festivals for his role in The Spy Gone North. He was nominated for Best Actor at the Blue Dragon Awards for Dark Figure of Crime.

Ju made a comeback to the small screen in 2019 with two television series, Netflix's zombie period drama Kingdom, and MBC's fantasy legal drama Item.

Ju returned to his role in the second season of the kingdom and appeared in the legal drama Hyena in 2020.

Ju Ju signed with H& Entertainment in January 2021.
