Joan Sebastian Life

José Manuel Figueroa Figueroa (April 8, 1951-July 13, 2015), better known as Joan Sebastian (pronounced [?o'an seßas'tjan], was a Mexican singer-songwriter.

Vicente Fernández, Lucero, Pepe Aguilar, and Roco D'rcal wrote more than 1,000 songs, including compositions for Vicente Fernández, Lucero, Pepe Aguilar, and Roco Drcal.

His music is a mash-up of Latin pop, ranchera, and groupera rock.

Sebastian received seven Latin Grammy Awards and five Grammy Awards, making him the most coveted Mexican entertainer in Grammy history.

He made his acting debut in T'y Yo (You and I) in 1996, giving credit to Maribel Guardia, his former wife and mother to his son, Julian.

Sebastian died of bone cancer at the age of 64 in 2015.

Sebastian had two top ten albums on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart and seven top ten songs on the Hot Latin Songs chart in the United States at the time of his death.

Early life

Joan Sebastian was born in Guerrero's rural town of Juliantla. At the age of seven, he began composing. When he was eight years old, his mother enrolled him in a Guanajuato school and returned to his hometown three years later.

His father took him away from a monastery in Morelos, where he was under the custody of Father David Salgado at the age of fourteen. Due to the clergyman's fame on Sebastian, he considered becoming a priest. He enrolled in the Seminario Conciliar de San José in Cuernava, Morelos, but he discovered he wanted to study music but decided against leaving the seminary to devote himself to music.

Personal life

Sebastian had eight children from five different women. José Manuel Figueroa (also a singer and composer), Juan Sebastián Figueroa González, Trigo de Jes Figueroa González (first three children with Teresa González, his first wife), Marcos Julián Figueroa Fernández (son of Maribel Guardia, is a singer and composer) José Manuel Figueroa González (son of Imelda Tuomo) José Manuel Figuero Trigo, his third oldest son, was shot in the back of the head during one of Joan Sebastian's concerts in Mission, Texas, on August 27, 2006. Following the performance, Trigo had been trying to control the crowd. He was taken to McAllen Medical Center, where he was declared dead.

Juan Sebastián, his second oldest son, was shot dead in Cuernavaca, Morelos, after arriving at a nightclub with some friends and being refused admission. Joan Sebastian said that his son's death had nothing to do with the Mexican drug cartels.

A few months after his death, Televisa announced that a series about his life would begin filming. Julian Figueroa's younger brother portrayed his father in his younger years, while his older brother José Manuel Figueroa portrayed his father in his later years. Livia Brito was also confirmed to play Maribel Guardia. Por Siempre Joan Sebastian's series premiered on Univision on June 27, 2016 and ended on July 25, 2016.

Hugo Figueroa's nephew-in-law was kidnapped before the start of a bull riding festival in Tarmbaro, Michoacán, on January 27, 2019. At kilometer 294 of the Mexico-Guajara highway, he was discovered dead with multiple gunshot wounds on January 31. This was the third violent death in the Mexican family's most popular. A video allegedly depicting his assassination has gone viral on the internet. Figueroa was buried not far from his uncle-in-law's grave.
